Bump for interest, i'm also thinking of it but I live in a homestead an hour away from a small city, I wonder if they'd even grant me one when the chance for customers is practically none

Ya I’m not sure if it’s just a “fill out the form and pay the fee and we’ll give it to you” kind of thing, or if you need to prove you are actually going to have business.

I think you have to show them spacifically the place you will do bussines, but that can even be a home shop or whatever. Technically you need an FFL to gunsmith ffs

          >I will ship guns to my home and sell them on gunbroker over the internet
          Is that good enough?

I mean i do have a business in dealing with junk I find across the many small towns in my corner of Utah but I cant get things shipped from me and rely on dropping off packages on mon and weds and receiving by my PO box. Alot of conflicting threads across the net about the legality of using a PO box to receive firearms even though its ffl to ffl

100% illegal to store in a PO box, nationwide. It needs to be addressed to a physical business location not located on government property.

I was going to do this until I learned that SOTs also have to pay the ITAR registration fee which is... not an insignificant amount of money

No you do not have to pay the ITAR fee if you’re only FFL class 1 and SOT class 3. You only have to register if you’re manufacturing firearms/NFA shit

      >Has anyone here gotten their FFL?
Yes 07/02 at the end of last year.

      >Was it worth the hassle?
Kinda. Unfortunately my timing was absolute garbage. I'm in WA so I'm getting 100% fricked on the business side of it, but the company's assets are "exempt" to WA's law for the most part. As a personal thing it's cool right now, as a business thing I completely have to change the plan.

      >so I can just have shit shipped to me
Never say this, you are getting it to start a business to make money.

Only if you're a manufacturer and making machine guns or suppressors.

I’m more interested in eliminating the wait time on NFA items and getting rid of transfer fees. I’m obviously going to do some legitimate business as a side hustle to my real job though. I don’t mind having the cheapest transfers in the state

You can normally get the items the same week but they need to remain the FFL's possession until the transfer is complete, make sure you keep your business items and personal items stored separately. This mean you can go out shooting with it on your guns but when you store it at the end of the day make sure they're split.

IIRC, it's extremely difficult to get a Class 3 SOT as a kitchen table FFL

You're going to be investigated up the ass by all the alphabet agencies, but sure it's possible if they choose to grant it to you. You have a better chance if you own an existing business, like a resale shop or similar.

If you want your class 3 it should be for commercial reasons and not personal reasons.

You may have to meet with an agent, who are honestly friendly people, to make sure everything is legit. It's actually not that hard to get, a lot of people don't really know the nitty gritty of firearms law.

There are other licenses that allow you to manufacture firearms as a gunsmith for commercial reasons, but not for personal reasons. It's a highly regulated business, a large cut goes to Uncle Sam via firearms taxes, who tightly regulates the laws, just like with alcohol and tobacco.

For personal use, you just need the proper license or no license at all. Where I live, you can buy 80% receivers for one hundred bucks or far less, like you would buy anything else normally, attach a grip, stock, and upper, no serial numbers or licensing or registration required.

All of this is perfectly legal. Or, you can take a funny metal trapezoid with holes in it like picrel for under $40, stamp it into a square fold, and now you have a legal stripped AK-47 receiver. As long as it is for personal use and not commercial use, and your local laws do not prohibit it. For commercial use, you will need licenses.

And here is a stripped AK receiver after it has been used and beat up then put up for sale for exactly $40. This is legally considered a firearm and requires an FFL. Folding your own does not, in states that are friendly to guns.

          >Now fold it into a metal tube
          >This is 100% a legal firearm

This is generally looked down upon and when the ATF come to check your books and see that they may not renew your FFL.
