Did you guys hear about this? It's old news but I didn't hear a single thing.
https://www.ccjdigital.com/products/article/15114521/fcc-approves-fm-mode-for-cb-radios
So that means you've got 40 more channels, can buy international CB radios and have more means for communication while larping
Jannies: Comms ARE weapon related. And CB is the option with the greatest range without the need for a Ham license.
hey i have that radio
it does not do FM
>So that means you've got 40 more channels
what makes you think you get 40 more channels?
it's still the same 40 channels, regardless of being AM or FM
Dude, imagine 40 people are using all the 40 AM channels so you cannot use a singe one to talk to your granny.
Now you can switch to FM and use its frequency range. Although both use the same frequencies its like having 40 additional channels.
>Dude, imagine 40 people are using all the 40 AM channels so you cannot use a singe one to talk to your granny
what?
you'd be lucky to hear anything when you turn a radio on in 2022 lol
only time i hear any traffic is channel 6 (superbowl) or channel 19 during skip conditions
>Although both use the same frequencies its like having 40 additional channels.
that is not the case, you cannot have simultaneous transmissions on the same channel with different modes
>you cannot have simultaneous transmissions on the same channel with different modes
Yeah... that's complete bullshit bro.
You can TX on FM 23 to your mom and your buddy right next to you on AM 23 to his girl and there won't be any interferences
no you can't, and literally not one fricking source is saying that you can
not the FCC documentation, not the CB manufacturers, not the online stores selling radios
not a single person is saying that this opens up more channels or gives the possibility of multiple transmissions on one channel
what it does it give better rejection of noise and distant signals
Perhaps you should get some expericence with an FM/AM CB radio before you start talking about stuff you don't understand.
I get it, you americans have more than 40 years of AM-only experience. Perhaps that's where such weird ideas come from.
wtf are you talking about i have 4 kenwood UHF/VHF radios and a HF rig
i also own multiple CBs that have FM mode options
i have 4 trucks with CBs installed in them
>All that tech and he doesn't know that AM and FM dont interfere even if using the same frequencies.
Don't get mad at me dumbo. Just use two of your FM/AM radios, set one on 23 AM and the other one on 23 FM and try it out if you hear the AM transmission on the FM one and vice versa.
>>All that tech and he doesn't know that AM and FM dont interfere even if using the same frequencies.
that's entirely wrong, fm will reject noise and weak signals better than AM, but if the AM transmission is strong, it will interfere, and people using AM will get btfo by the FM signal and not be able to hold a conversation at the same time as the FM transmission
i already said in this post
it gives better noise rejection, it's better for local communication in places like cities where there is a high noise floor
https://www.quora.com/Can-AM-and-FM-waves-interfere-with-each-other-and-affect-sound-quality
there isn't a single legitimate source anywhere online or in and documentation that this allows "more channels", because it doesn't
post some radios of yours
think he's fricking with you or has bad info because there are edge cases that make it possible but you're correct, you can't just take two radios, put them both on the same freq but AM/FM respectively and key without the signal becoming too large to demodulate by the receiver.
happy to be proved wrong, learning is fun.
BigC=MrCrummyPaws fyi. Dude has legitimate head issues, and couldn't post a non pristine brass deflector when I called him out last month. Don't waste your time.
>thinks i don't shoot
kek, these newbies are so dumb
You guys are morons.
First off, better for HAM general in
Second, no one's on CB anymore. I use it for long road trips but traffic's almost zero.
This really should have been done 20-30 years ago. God knows an update was needed.
He's correct. The AM and FM modulation shouldn't technically interfere with each other, even given same frequency.
Practically, AM should be abandoned as vastly inferior, much like SSB for CB.
>AM should be abandoned as vastly inferior, much like SSB for CB.
The frick are you talking about?
AM gets a better range with a given TX power. And SSB (at least in Yurop where we're allowed to TX on 12 Watts SSB instead of 4 FM/AM) means range, range, range.
Most of the CB stuff here works via SSB these days.
Does the US have a different power level when it comes to SSB?
12 watts PEP. You are effectively taking the same power but putting it into a narrower bandwidth and not transmitting the carrier. The sidebands are mirror images so you only need one.
Has there ever been a single hammy in history who has seen a vegana in person? one that they didn't come out of I mean
>So that means you've got 40 more channels,
Using the same frequencies but with different modulation doesn't give you more channels (unless it's something like SSB that allows you to choose the upper or lower side of the channel), just like having people yell across a room in different languages doesn't allow you to have more people yelling across a room simultaneously while still being understood.
To be fair: interference that really disturbs only becomes a thing at closer distances. So when two radios are on channel 20 and am fm respectively, they probably won't disturb each other, might not even hear each other.
So both anons here are right and wrong.
Still its nice to have FM too but I wish we had 80 FM channels like the Germans. Funny thing: guess they'd love to have 80 AM ones too (only got 40). And being able to use 12 watts everywhere, not only in ssb mode, would be nice too.
*two radios a mile away from each other.
Disregarding anything else, I am curious about what range a run-of-the-mill base station in the 30 to 40 watt area might have.
Get your ham license. Any moron can use CB, that's why CB is mostly morons.
Yeah while HAM is about old morons who are talking about their doctor's appointments
>Get your ham license.
>Have your name and adress in a database so every butthole can find out who you are
No thanks man.
CB's suck you can yell louder then those things transmit. Only good on the highways even then the static will drive you nuts!
>CB's suck you can yell louder then those things transmit
Oh sweet summer child. When the weather is good I've had conversations with europe.
And even under normal circumstances at least a dozen miles are possible with the antenna on my truck.
Oh boy, 40 more channels of silence.
>He doesn't see the silence as good because it enables him to have his own sorta-private radio network with his buddies around him.
Lemme guess: You don't have any friends to talk with on CB, that's why you find the silcence bad?
>weapons
fricking jannies
Like you have anyone you could talk to.
What to laugh so hard you’ll almost DIE? Check out this trucker who trolls the shit out of other truckers over CB:
