It's never getting repealed. Abe was killed in order to keep it in place.

but his party got the majority after he died and they're discussing getting it repealed
especially since China is about to chimp out

          >Abe was killed in order to keep it in place.
That's why it'll probably get repealed tbh. It's insane that one of the largest countries in the world doesn't export any military hardware.

Well then that failed, because the pro-repeal parties now have an upper house supermajority, and milquetoast Kishida who was born in Hiroshima is going back on his anti-nuclear stance.

If Article 9 gets repealed, will we see a return of Japanese fleet carriers and a stronger navy? Having a not so friendly carrier task force right next door should help check Chinese dickwaving, right? Also, Kaga and Izumo could use some back up (maybe a new Akagi).

It's bizarre. Our great grandpappies probably would never have thought that the day would come where their country would be encouraging the nips to militarize, while the once-fierce Japs drag their feet and bicker about the fine points of preserving their imposed constitution

Honestly? Probably not. Kaga and Izumo are adequate for Japan’s needs and a full fledged carrier program would be extremely expensive. See: South Korea reconsidering theirs in favor of more missiles/aircraft to counter North Korea. I’d expect Japan to spend the now increasing defense budget on more precision weapon systems/things that can be churned out cheaply and operated with less manpower than older equivalent platforms to get the most out of their small recruitment pool, like the new Mogami FFMs

Howa rifles are exported and they're fucking fantastic. If you like a gun for beautiful, perfect machining... like I do... buy a Howa bolt action. It's like what America made in the golden years.

I've been meaning to get a Howa Mini Action in 7.62x39 (its what I've stacked), but I lost my job due to jab refusal so I guess that will have to wait.

Japanese made firearms especially those made by Miroku are the best firearms money can buy from quality to price ratio. I'm absolutely floored by all my Miroku made firearms and I'm not even a fucking weeb

    the nips can export weapons
    https://www.thedefensepost.com/2022/06/01/japan-export-weapons/
It's just that nobody wants then because they're just inferior derivatives to US weapons at twice the cost.

Because a lot of their indigenous weaponry sucks shit and isn't good for export. Don't take my word for it, look up Japanese complaining about that shit.

What exactly do you want from them? Most of their stuff that is still in production is a close copy of western designs you can buy anywhere in the US. Sigs, Uzis, M249s, etc. Sure it wont have the Minebea roll marks, but they can be had. If you've shot a Costa Mesa AR18, you've literally shot a Howa AR18 and can also extrapolate what a Type 89 is like because the differences are basically a matter of furniture. The replacement to that is just a SCAR copy (which shouldn't be surprising, if you upgrade a type 89 with modern accoutrements like extruded receiver and poly lower, then a SCAR is inevitably what it will resemble), so if you've ever shot a 16s or Bren then you know what its like. The only gun that cant really be substituted is the Type 64, and by the japs own admission that thing is shit. If they ever did do parts kits, the Type 64 is the one most likely to end up here since the Type 20 will take decades to roll out; therefore the Type 89 is going nowhere any time soon.
