I’m between jobs right now but I’m planning to squirrel money away and get some CNC certificates done so I can stop working shitty warehouse jobs and do something more interesting.
My free advice on CAD/CNC: look at the jobs you want and what would qualify you for them, then get that cert. Better, get started on your own competency then start interviewing immediately while enrolled; get in the door and ask them to hit a new pay point once you graduate. Part time, etc. Build experience while in school if you can pull it off.
I've been using Onshape which is parametric solid CAD, browser based, and free. Also using FreeCAD which is FOSS but it's not for the faint of heart. Horrible UI. Better rig would be to run Blender. Both are running on my 2014 laptop with no issues. Suspect for commercial work, you need Solidworks, but really depends on your local area. I'm not a commercial drafter, but had to work around it for many years... software constantly changes, but the basic ideas don't, and if you understand parametric design you're worlds ahead.

You can see the massive improvements year to year, esp in the 80s-90s. The part I lived through as a kid/teen.
From about 2010 on... the graphics just get more refined. I still buy major consoles when they come out, but am less and less impressed by them. The PS4-->PS5 was sort of a letdown.

As a xoomer I built every machine that I used from early 90's until about 2014. When I went to build the next one, realized several things had changed

Next computers were, instead, riced out corporate turn in Dell boxes / HP laptops with SSD, plenty of RAM, and docking stations. You could (can) buy them for ~$100, spend a bit more and run dual monitor setups on them. My daily drivers are a couple of HP workstation laptops, one from lmao 2014 and the other I think 2017.
Gaming is mostly w/ my kids and for that I just want it to work and have 2 controllers. And not in my office.
I'll keep that in mind. I'm reconsidering building a performance rig, but for different reasons:

2. Older boy is in college now. We're trying to finish Borderlands 3 during breaks. Frankly both of us would rather hunt or fish. Girl has sort of outgrow it, used to play Minecraft on console.
My free advice on CAD/CNC: look at the jobs you want and what would qualify you for them, then get that cert. Better, get started on your own competency then start interviewing immediately while enrolled; get in the door and ask them to hit a new pay point once you graduate. Part time, etc. Build experience while in school if you can pull it off.
I've been using Onshape which is parametric solid CAD, browser based, and free. Also using FreeCAD which is FOSS but it's not for the faint of heart. Horrible UI. Better rig would be to run Blender. Both are running on my 2014 laptop with no issues. Suspect for commercial work, you need Solidworks, but really depends on your local area. I'm not a commercial drafter, but had to work around it for many years... software constantly changes, but the basic ideas don't, and if you understand parametric design you're worlds ahead.

Honestly I'm having more fun playing pirated build engine games and STALKER than any console exclusive in the past 6 years.
Gaming is only worth it for classics and few indies nowadays. The same as with big budget movies - ultimately the more influence over the artistic side of the project goes to bookeepers, marketing specialists and lawyers, than actual creative team, because it must be safe and available for the least refined mass audience to make fat profits. Then there is a problem of average vidya developers being only familiar with pop culture references instead of original unadulterated works of art, thus having shit taste and very little knowledge about anything except IT, despite thinking otherwise.
