I will advise walker users not to spray deet bug spray near their headsets.
The chemicals in OFF eat the plastic.
Spray first then wear the headset.
      You are welcome.

This guy probably has one of the most comprehensive comparisons I've seen:

Recently walker came out with a digital version of the razor (analog in that video) so that's the one I picked up since I wanted something slim. You can get different versions in "XTRM" trim which gives you a nicer band and ear cups.

Thank you blessed DEET eater - good to know.

how do electric ears work? i went to the range today and I wear plugs and normal ears and some moronic Black person homosexual wagie kid next to me brought some shit 14" barrel rifle and put a muzzle break on it and was just blasting me on the side with it hurting my ears

They're regular muffs with a mic and cutout switch. If the mic hears something over x db, it doesn't transmit that part of the signal.

ah so they're just a convenience thing

          Anonymous

depends on what you are doing...it is more than a convenience thing if you plan on finding yourself in a situation where you don't want to hamper your situational awareness. I usually double up with ear plugs if I am just at the range, and crank the electronic ear pro all the way up since the nrr on the comtacs really isn't that great for what the fricking pieces of shit cost. If I was hunting or something I wouldn't double up.

            Anonymous

The nrr of all electronic earpro sucks pretty hard. if you want maximum protection nothing beats disposable earplugs. Or you need to get those giant ass muffs that prevent a good cheek weld and still aren't as good as plugs. They're a trade-off for comfort and convenience. If you've got a product that claims different I would love to buy them.

What gen comtacs do you have? If 5, press both buttons at once and you'll enter earplug mode. Helps a lot. Not sure about 3 or 4.

      Anonymous

No earpro will protect from that. You can double up but at best you'll get +5 nrr protection.

      >need
Suck my dick. If I want to larp in the woods with my autistic frickbuddies I will and my $110 adapter connected to my $30 radio definitely makes sense. No this is not sarcasm, I do what I want.

You need a $110 adapter to plug into a 3.5mm port? How?

          Anonymous

Peltors have a permanently attached u/174 plug. To connect it to a radio and actually have it work you need an amplified PTT. The only company that makes them that uses real nexus PTTs charges roughly $110. I have a lot of PTT's sitting around I really aught to figure out the wiring and undercut the shit out of them.

To hook it up to a phone or straight music player a $30 adaptor works fine but as discussed above I am autistic and must screech into the radiowaves.

I've been using these for a while along with foamies, and they work much better than shit-tier Howard Leights:

    https://www.opticsplanet.com/peltor-sport-tactical-500-electronic-hearing-protector.html

These seem to have some of the best NRR for the price. I wish I'd bought these years ago instead of being a cheap-ass for so long. People really shouldn't skimp on hearing protection. I'm not saying you have to drop a rack on AMPs, but at least buy something better than the $60 Impact Sports to save the only ears you get in your entire life when you're already spending hundreds on guns and ammo. My biggest complaint about guntubers is that they don't emphasize hearing protection enough, and even set bad examples by shooting without earpro just because they're using silencers or are outdoors or whatever.

      Anonymous

      >at least buy something better than the $60 Impact Sports to save the only ears you get in your entire life
I wear foamies under my $60 muffs. This provides better sound protection than those muffs alone, and doesn't block a good cheek weld like those muffs.
The muffs aren't even really for sound protection, they're just to crank up the volume on non-shooting sounds so I can hear people talk through the foamies. You could spend thousands on earpro and it'd still be no better than a few cents on foamies, almost certainly worse. There's literally no better option available.

        Anonymous

The seal on the Peltors is much better than on Impact Sports. I guess everyone's head has a different shape, but getting a good seal is important so the earmuffs actually do their job. I don't even need gel cups to get a good seal with the Peltors. I've never had a problem with cheekweld either. The Peltors also have an advertised 26 dB NRR vs the Howard Leights that only advertise 22 dB NRR, so yeah I'll go ahead and just spend the $180 on the Peltors. Like I said, it's not as if you're spending $1k+ on Ops-Core AMPs. If $180 breaks the bank, then you shouldn't be buying guns anyway.

          Anonymous

The seal isn't relevant. The foamies are the earpro, and you can get 32 dB NRR out of them easy. The muffs are just there to amplify sound so I can have a normal conversation with foamies in.

On the low end Howard Leights are the best. Walkers are nice but I think the technology in HLs make them easier to converse with. Shame though, cause Walker tends

High end I don't know. I have done a lot of research and always get shy of buying something. The general consensus I came to was the best audio quality is disputed between MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X and 3M Peltor Comtac series.

Botach used to sell the Comtac III for a steal but it seems they're nearly $700 everywhere. Unless you need comms or like to LARP and have money to burn there's no reason to get them over the Sordins.

Honestly though it's hard to beat the Howard Leights. For $60 you get perfectly good ear pro. I had my first set for probably ten years. Headband came apart so I got a new one, replaced the cups, had electric tap on the wires, the battery cover was coming off, etc. but they held up and they still worked when I replaced them they just were looking really beat up after a bit so I got the Walkers.

As mentioned I don't care for them as much as they HLs, but they're good ear pro still. One thing you can see is watch GunTubers and you will see these four I mentioned everywhere.

comtac IIIs were 3-400 like 6 months ago but now mulatto zoomers have inflated them up to 6-700 for some reason. why has this happened? also why are the supreme pro-xs only 18 nrr? that's crazy.

That is nuts considering comtac V's can be had for 6-700 on ebay. Maybe something to do with an increase in doomers?

    got a pair of walkers,
they microphone has a constant static noise,
only has 2 microphones, despite there being 4 microphone slots.
    Bluetooth worked fine
    they refuse warranty.
packaging and production comes straight from China, they just hand it over to you.
no QOS done on the product.
grip the shit out of my head.
non Bluetooth seems to be the way to go

axil ghost strike 2.0 are good, they're in-ear. last for quite a while.
    rechargeable.
can even charge them while you use them if you have a battery bank, adds some interference noise if you can tolerate it.
was more comfortable than the walkers,
    no problems with cheek weld.
if you have problems with in ear hearing protection falling out of your ears because of your weird ass shaped ear canal's then you will have the same problems with these. as I end up having the same problem with my "problem ear" as I get with foam plugs.

both do the loud noise cut just fine.
axil also has bluetooth, but its a b***h getting it to work without fricking up on windows 7. is fine on 8 and above though. and fine on every phone i've tried it on.
the axil also works as a bluetooth headset where you can take calls on it if you want, although i've never done it since i'm a loser and nobody calls me but it can apparently do that.

      Anonymous

forgot to add, while useing the bluetooth it feels like you're brain is getting cooked with 5g. and with the axil you can feel the thyroid cancer growing in your neck as you're using it, since the receiver hangs down and sits directly on your thyroid.
but you guys are probably used to that

I did a test to detect RF emission on the products and it only emits RF when the Bluetooth function is on on both products.

This. I just bought 2x pairs of Walker's from Amazon because it's cheap enough I can afford it without thinking and now I have both a back up pair and a pair I can let someone use on a range day if they don't own guns but are interested.
At some point I will probably go full LARP and get the ComTacs but for now I just need to not lose my hearing. Everyone I know also uses the Walker's fwiw.
