        >Nobody owns a standalone camera anymore unless they are a tryhard social media homosexual.
That's not true what so ever, Nikon alone make about five hundred million a month, with majority of sales being casual photographers who do it as a hobby.
The vast majority of the try hard social media homosexuals use their phone to take pictures, not a stand alone camera.

Can someone tell me if accidentall blade ejection is possible in otf? Always wonder if people aren't scared of carrying this in pocket? Also my EDC, Leatherman surge and pocket knife, sometimes only knife, sometimes both, sametimes only multitool cuz I like em

      Anonymous

Witch cheap OTFs definitly possible. Hear some stories about Benchmade knifes opening in the pocket and scraping people, but in general they don't really happen, plus the "spring" isn't strong enough to cause any real damage, had mine for over a year by now a think and nothing like it ever happened, some people even have an issue to get the knife out. nothing to be afraid off if you buy a decent OTF. also I believe that the Benchemade oopses ware caused by a button retention frick up and they fixed the issue long time ago.

        Anonymous

After yt reviews it looks like some otf, especially nicer ones have super stiff springs. Honestly I wouldn't be comfortable with it in my pocket, also blades are super agressive with serrations, dagger girnds and pointy tips, accidentally opening something like that in pocket would end up with stiches.

Thoughs on fake demko ad 20.5 from AliExpress? Have D2 or 8crmov steel and cost 5x less than original one here in EU. Is it worth for a EDC beater? I have thought about buying real one but that price, gosh, not for me for that size and materials

      Anonymous

The Chinese knock-offs are bretty good these days, probably fine for a beater, box opener, potato peeler.
I ordered a Bugout on my country's EBay clone, when it came, noticed the color was a little off from what I've seen in video reviews, not as vibrant blue. Turns out it was a fake (different font on blade label, slightly different hardware), but very convincing. It wasn't amazing quality (had some blade play, action wasn't 100% smooth), but it wasn't a bad knife by any stretch. I ended up returning it and getting an original, but could have easily functioned as a beater.

What’s a good pick set to buy?

        Anonymous

I was picking for a minute, I want to do it again. Get a sparrow shorthook, a batarang, and those are gonna be your bread and butter for 90% of picks.

        Anonymous

I've bought a few sets, but imma be honest, people will rag on the lock picking lawyers stuff bc he's a YouTuber, but the Chinese kits are so much worse, made out of stamped aluminum and bend super easily, I've got the lock picking lawyers beginner set and the covert companion and the build quality is leagues better, they don't bend as easily, retain their shape if bent mildly, and are smooth so they don't catch on the pins, highly recommended lockpicks. It takes a while to master, (I still mainly rely on shims and comb picks rather then single pin or raking) but with those two products you can open 90% of padlocks in 10 minutes or less with no experience

        What's your budget?
Lishi makes some very outstanding stuff, but you're going to be spending a pretty penny on it.
If you want a decent set that's not going to break the bank, Hudson locks make some good sets that are not that expensive.
Make sure you learn the hardware, that will help you out the most.

Also to add, make sure you check your state laws. Here in WA, if you're caught with picks and do not have a license, you will get into serious trouble.

            Anonymous

picks are extremely tiny. You have to have already seriously fricked up to get searched AND get searched to the extent someone can find a 3" piece of bent metal in your shoe. On top of that, you have to have fricked up absolutely royally to not have the opportunity to toss it somewhere it can't be found before the pat down.

              Anonymous

I've done urban exploration in the past and been caught by police with out a second to toss anything. I got patted down and they found a couple picks, rakes and tensioner, nothing came of that because I had my license and a camera to take pics, cops told me to frick off. Firm believer of Murphy's law of anything can happen.

respect for posting true life experiences anon. Did you have them truly concealed away or just in a case in your pocket? I used to carry picks (not a problem in my state) in a pouch on the side of my shoe but if I was going into an area where I thought it'd be a problem I'd probably just carry 2 and a small tensioner hidden away

                Anonymous

No pouch, just a couple of them tucked away in a discrete coat pocket on the inside.
He questioned me on why I had them, I told him I have a license to carry, was worried that I might get locked in somewhere when doing my exploration, because it has happened in the past when a buddie didn't make sure the door was propped open properly.
Thing that bugged me the most is when he touched my balls during the pat down, did not say "No homo" when doing so.
Cops don't do shit here anymore, so now a days if I got caught, they probably would apologize to me for inconvenience.

Have you looked at its amazon ratings and reviews?
      550 ratings, 13% negative (1-star + 2-star + 3-star ratings).
      Reviews talk about
      - 2-second turn-on time
      - tiny, flush, hard to find buttons
      - micro usb charging
      - other stuff

I got myself a nitecore tini 2 a few days ago and I'm putting it through a bunch of tests as reviews talk about a whole bunch of problems including it failing after a few months of use :/

Maybe I should have gone for something simpler and less ambitious like the Olight i1r 2 Pro and saved myself the hassle of having to vet a keychain light before the returns window closes.
      1486 reviews, 1% + 1% + 2% negative (1-star, 2-star, 3-star). Which is a fantastic rating.

You better go back in time and tell Adolf those medals are designed wrong.

would only be using it on a hat like half the time, otherwise it'd just be for inspecting parts / workpieces. I feel like ultra compact lights would be too fiddly for that and for taking in / out of a tool belt. Any recs though?

It’s going to be too heavy IMO if you go with anything beyond a 1x AAA light.

My father in law gave me picrel and it’s actually pretty sweet. Haven’t used the streamlight, but this Coast has an interesting beam that I haven’t had in any other light. Gives a really good bright spot for a 1x AAA light.

Pic related is the beam you get at like 24”. It’s great under the hood of a car because so many AAA lights have a wide throw and it’s not enough light to see anything well.

Thanks anon, that looks pretty cool. I'm gonna look it up on youtube and see what people are saying.
By the way, just so you know -- since you might be new here -- the tripcode / name feature is meant for circumstances where you need to have a consistent identity in a given thread. The typical example is a PrepHole recipe thread where an imposter might claim an incorrect recipe for an OP's image. For a thread like this, and for most of PrepHole, trip codes aren't just unnecessary, they are counter to board culture and might get you ridiculed by other anons.
Anyway, now you know. Thanks for joining in our conversations anon, and please take that thing off for future threads so you don't steal the focus away from your fellow users.

You spend how much on your phone? A ten dollar case can protect it from getting broken. Also better grip, looks cool, can brag to your friends you got a phone case. You're selling yourself short.

My phone was 140 bucks. If you're bragging to your friends about a phone case you've got bigger problems than protecting your investment.

    Two questions.
One is does anyone know of any cool keychains/key holders?

And two. Has anyone tried these magnetic key chains? Do they actually hold on to each other strong enough to not fall off easily?

I've had several magnet connectors, I've lost several keys when working and didn't know the key came off. Now this can all be solved by putting the keys in the pocket, I prefer to use them on a carabiner.

      Bepis

That magnet keychain seems like one of those things where you should def buy a name brand. I’m sure there’s $2 versions that look nice with a shitty magnet that falls off, but if you find a name brand with a good rare earth magnet for $10-$15, it will probably be solid.

I recently read the story about two Dutch girls that went missing while hiking in Panama and ended up dead. They barely had anything useful with them, which probably contributed to them dying.
This made me think I should probably buy a compass and a physical map of the area i'm traveling to, a first aid kit and maybe other stuff.
Knives are illegal here (frick this shithole) although it'd make sense to carry one

true but the exact circumstances of their deaths are unknown.
i heard that there was a similar case where a woman got lost in the same area, and when a rescue team was sent to find her, a few men from the rescue team found her and kidnapped and raped her.
it's possible the same thing happened to the dutch girls. so not getting lost in the first place would have helped them
