I'd say to make a gun out of something else that's unrelated (like picrel) so you can save a lot of headache in making your own components for everything (this one uses a power drill).
I'd say this + caseless ammunition + sodium chlorate/sugar composition for the propellant + those priming powders you can make from reading those old books telling you how to do it.

If you look close enough at the picture, you'll see a clip at the bottom. It's basically a cliploader, it doesn't use magazines. This is good because clips are easier to manufacture.
my idea is to keep the magazine empty and just put the clip in so that way I don't have to constantly reload magazines.

Also, just to expand more on the primer part, it can either be the number of early primer recipes which happen to be corrosive but are quite easy to make, but you also have electronic ignition methods, such as using resistive wires from a hair dryer or electric heater that you can use or you can just use friction itself, such as nail gun or a drill, eliminating need for any chemical primers.

If you'd tell me what country you're in specifically I could give specific advice. Some countries with strict gun laws have less strict 1800s gun laws, which means you can get a cap and ball revolver more easily than a modern pistol, and six shots kills as much as it did 200 years ago.

The absolute easiest gun to make is not really a gun but super deadly and scary in close quarters. It’s a super soaker flame thrower. If you use actual gasoline the flame sticks for quite a while to anything. Not really practical but very stylish.
