yeah anon tell me about all those "stop gap" solutions in stooorage like every moron who tells me there are shit loads of AA guns in stoorage (all of which were scrapped decades ago)
no im saying if the government asks for 5000 old fashioned AA guns and 5000 reliable and working AA lasers theyre going to receive delivery of the old school guns years before they get the lasers
oh man... oh just stop. Trust me, there's no way to ask for "5000 old fashioned AA guns" anymore. Those old Bofors guns you morons still think exist? all scrapped before you were even born. No one in their right fricking mind is going to produce M45 trailers with quad 50 mounts so they can be used against tiny drones for a few years until every single platoon has a laser defense system attached

I smile at morons like you. Everything you've asked for has been tried and realized to be inadequate or just not worth the asking price. Trust me kiddo, once you turn 30 you'll realize you're not as smart as the government on this stuff.

Are you moronic? The technology exists to mass produce 50 cals or 20mms right now. The infrastructure wouldn't take that long to put in place. If you're waiting around for squads of laser-armed vehicles to knock drones out of the sky, in any serious numbers, well, good luck with that.

Unironically the west would have an easier time mass producing laser weapons than bigger guns. Why exactly? We actually can design robots and electronic weapons can be almost completely sutomated. Our chip factories in the US will be staffed by robots rather than 10,000 bugmen with soldering irons.

They are way easier to mass produce even from scratch.

holy shit, someone get the pentagon on the phone right now! a bunch of contrarian virgins with 5000 hours in Wargame know better than the procurement office!

Yes, procurement offices are filled with beurocrats who just sit on their ass, wargame autists (at least some of them) spend countless hours reading about 80 year old designs and their use/effectiveness throughout the years.
Stop acting like a gay, the government isn't always right, this doesn't mean the autists are right either but maybe actually have a discussion instead of just saying "ur dum lol"

the procurement office isnt planning a war right now, but if one broke out they would procure a stopgap solution like trad AA guns. why waste peacetime resources on something that is already a mature technology when you have the time to develop something better?

Multi-million dollar platforms can just BARELY contend with off the shelf drones today. Once they're properly militarized IFVs and tanks won't stand a chance. Really you think you can shoot them in the sky? That one was a decoy actually there are 4 more drones approaching from 5 different directions coming in 2-3 feet off the ground and approaching behind cover to pop your vehicle. Any attempts to counter this will just be cost prohibitive.
Slap a couple extra .50s on every tank, IFV, APC, and truck you field. That'll give them something to defend against cheap and slow low flying drones. Then they only have to worry about the faster moving expensive drones.
This worked well for the US in ww2
> Oh, and good luck affording active defenses like radar for literally every vehicle
When did I say that? I said "slap a couple .50s on every car" not "put a .50 caliber ciws system complete with radar targetting system on every single vehicle".
If these drones are flying 5ft off the ground as you say they'd be pretty easy to spot by eye.
>"put a .50 caliber ciws system complete with radar targetting system on every single vehicle".
But the US Army said that. It's called the BLADE system. Edgy, right?
Well if they're already doing it anyways then whats the problem?

Dronegays btfo, that's the problem lol. Quadcopters were the final gasp of civilian guerilla war cope against the zogbot EW complex.

Eh, guerillas beat zog because it isn't willing to commit the attrocities necessary to end an insurgency. They always lose in a fight, but they kill a zogbot. Keep this up over twenty years and it'll just give up and go home. Drones or no this paradigm remains the same.

COIN wins battles. You win the war by convincing the populace to not fight. If the occupied people won't accept the bribe of jobs and better living conditions then you have to eliminate all the people who disapprove of you rule. The US wasn't willing to do this in Afghanistan and didn't want to keep fighting there forever, so they gave up and left.
i find it hilarious that /k/ is obsessed with high end firearms accessories but sees no value in drones that allow you to spot people from miles away and drop explosives on them
You dont understand, I need my 1000$ accessories to live out my ebin call of duty one man army special forces delusions. How else will I alone save America?
Honestly being an evil mastermind drone pilot would be way more fun than being a spec ops dude
Imagine having all the power in the world to frick over some homosexual killing your dudes by pressing a button from 1000km away and they can't do anything
Drones can keep getting better, more diverse, more numerous, more deadly, more intelligent and so on.
AA guns really can't, they are basically a solved technology with some minute improvements to be made. It's an uphill battle for the AA gun, whether Flak or not.
They are experimental drones, mostly meant for intelligence gathering so far. But between it and Loyal Wingmen drones, a grand fleet of drones look like the future to me. You don't want to be able to type into a console to create a wave of death at the hands of some micro-suicide drones?
Perdix? They're mainly an experiment and not a practical thing. GPS/INS, a radio and a cellphone camera iirc. The educated guess is they could be used as decoys vs IADS, or carry seismic sensors too to be dropped behind enemy lines the way artillery-fired landmines used to be.
at least give it a radar

You can use both. One is cheap AA that everyone and their mother gets, the other is dedicated AA meant for defending important assets.
Multi-million dollar platforms can just BARELY contend with off the shelf drones today. Once they're properly militarized IFVs and tanks won't stand a chance. So do those things operate as suicide drones or are they carrying a seperate payload?
