hello /k/ I am searching for insight on the factory provided dovetails provided by glock. personal preference ultimately, but does anyone actually use them? why, or why not? I'm also curious about anyone's experience with magpul pmags. Some say they are as reliable as oem but I'm not convinced. One last thing, having a lighter trigger for glock experience would be helpful, im curious about the benefits of upgrading, but don't want to sacrifice any reliability in any fashion. I know i could probably utilize my favorite search engine, but thought for the sake of conversation, I'd start a thread. any experiences shared relevant to the content of this post is appreciated. thanks

are you sure you know what dovetails are?
cause theres no choice
>I'm also curious about anyone's experience with magpul pmags. Some say they are as reliable as oem but I'm not convinced.
they arent
>One last thing, having a lighter trigger for glock experience
please buy and shoot at least 2000 rounds before thinking gun needs to be modded to be usable. its fine out of the box.
>what dovetails are?
For sure, i see your point. I guess I meant the [I don't have the proper term, sorry] grip modification(?) that comes in the box. It renders the dovetail more pronounced. I like it because it sets in my palm without virtually any worry of slide biting, but yields more bulk potentially snaging on a shirt. I've found without the grip modification(?) my hand slides too high, but more is accessible.
>they arent
okay thank you.
>its fine out of the box.
right I agree, perfection. I love it how it is, but just simply entertaining the idea of trigger work. Basically window shopping with no intention of modding, but curious of others experience. thanks
okay just to clarify a few things, this slot is the only dovetail on a glock.
what you are referring to is backstraps and a beavertail.
as for if you want to use it or not comes down to handsize. with no idea how big or small your hands are id say just try it out. if one option feels better when you pick up the gun just keep it on. see if you can comfortably hit the controls if you have small hands do nothing.
the smallest backstrap option brings it up to the size of a gen 3 glock.
magpuls are range mags, they work but glock mags are just better and still relatively cheap.
>beavertail
Haha there it is. I meant beavertail. Whoops, feel straight tarded now. But hey thanks for the clarification, along with the other trivial info, super helpful.
Don’t frick with the glock’s trigger with the possible exception of a race gun. Use glock night sights. Magpul glock mags work great. A magwell is ok depending on your needs
>Magpul glock mags work great
see this is exactly what I was saying. Some swear by magpul. Would you carry with a pmag or just range days?
as for what the beavertail does it keeps you from gripping too high on a gun and getting slidebite when the slide moves backwards.
if you need that or not is on you and i think some of the backstrap options lack the beavertail anyways
yeah, in a earlier reply i basically described why i like the beavertail. if nothing else, this thread has served to give me a good laugh. Dovetails, beavertails, whatever
as for my opinion on magpul i think the only good mag they make is the ar 15 pmag. every other mag is slightly worse than the factory option but at the same time cheaper. if you cant afford or get the real thing adequate but not preferred. they arent dogshit but the ak and glockmags lack the metal reinforcement the real mags have. ive had a few jams with magpul glock mags. not to the point where id throw this mag out for being defective but at the point where i refuse to buy more.
the ar pmags are my goto. the difference is ar mags were actually bad and pmags were a real improvement. meanwhile ar/glock mags were excellent and well we make mags might as well. theres no actual improvement except its cheaper.
Magpul AUG mags are better than Steyr waffles in every way except aesthetics and capacity.
GL17 pmags had issues when they first came out in the Glock 19 and Glock 26. Now, they are 100% reliable. People hate on them because the OEM mags are also cheap, but the pmags are just as good
>Now, they are 100% reliable.
when did pmags first come out and what year / gen glock did they become 100% reliable? thanks
Came out in 2017 or so. Been reliable across all generations. There was a few issues later with the gen 5 g26 ambi slide stop but it’s all good now.
>OEM mags are also cheap
Whats the point of buying pmags then?
They're even cheaper and, in principle, just as good. Besides, OEM Glock mags aren't cheap, magazines for most other handguns are just expensive.
Basically, why use your duty mags when you have perfectly fine sacrificial training mags.
Plus (unlike OEM mags) they come in gamer-friendly 140- and 170mm sizes without having to spend the cost of the magazine again on an extension kit.
The only time ive ever had a Glock jam was with the Magpul G17 mags. Ive used them lots at the range, that was the only problem. But still. So for carrying when my life depends on it i use Glock mags. Just clean your mags sometimes as well
