You have to remove the handle, the screws in the handle plates and then the screws in the latch plate
It's probably painted in so once you're sure every screw is out, you might need to tap or pry to get it to pop

If you cannot figure out how to get that simple ass doorknob apart just by looking at it then I doubt you'd even understand an explanation of how to do it. Maybe see if your wife's boyfriend can take care of it.

The point is you don't just tell someone to "go buy me a door handle". If you're going to send someone to buy you some door hardware for you then you need to tell them the brand, finish, style, type of lock, etc. so they get you what you need. And if that's done, the matter of handle vs knob doesn't even enter the picture.
