so three villages with an average of size of 10 houses per village is somehow 2.25 bahmuts? We know the objective was to rush to the sea of azov, clearly the plan failed. It's week 3 and zero meaningful gains have been made with multiple brigades taken out of action. You have to be on another level of cope to believe things are going well for ukraine.

I will begin with stating that this war troubles me deeply. It is horrible that the young men on both sides of this conflict are being thrown into the meat grinder that this war is. Both sides of this conflict are not clean from wrong doing, however if you can’t understand why Putin invaded Ukraine you are a fool who suffers from confirmation bias to the extreme. NATO encroachment is not something that he could just brush off. It doesn’t matter what you have to say in response, this is the situation we are in. The US and NATO are using Ukraine as a proxy and now we are seeing that throwing billions of dollars at a war doesn’t win anything. Russia suffered heavily in the beginning, but their pace hasn’t slowed. Now that they control the skies they are just going to grind Ukraine to nothing piece by piece. I know the barn and subsequent buildings is so important and will ensure complete victory for Ukraine, but in reality I believe this war is already lost without NATO intervention. In all seriousness, we should be praying for the souls of the young men who have departed and for those who still remain that they are returned home safely and that this war can end with some degree of peace. I am so sick of seeing neckbeard gays on this websight arguing like a hormonal teenage girl over this war. Let us try not to one up each other and win an argument at the expense of invaluable life. This war has consumed enough already.

The first thrirty kilometers will suck for Ukraine.
The actual 'defensive lines' are more or less Potemkin villages, mostly due to sat pictures and precision fires, but the Russian troops there still have to be defeated.
The real deal will be the Russian main line, 30 km in. If the Russain mobile reserves do a good job, they may stop the Ukrainians there.

But all of that may stop being important if the Ukrainians get into artillery range of the main east-west road, and manage to hit the Kerch bridge again.

The question is just how many minefields have Russia made?
If they are everywhere then Ukraine will continue to go at this pace
But if Ukraine reaches a point where the minefields thin out or stop entirely, then the tempo can resume once more

The Russians must have some gaps for supplying their own troops, and presumably they have some way to actually move their own troops back (unless they have decided to do the moronic 'hold at all costs' thing again)

in the end this is a game of chicken, where the Russians need to decide when to deploy thier mobile reserves when tehy think they have identified the Ukrainian Schwerpunkt. Main axis. You know what I mean.

The Russian problem right now is that they are not mobile, and can be outflanked in their trenches.
Or in a worst case scenario, actually end up pinned against the next lines' minefields when forced to move backwards.

Artillery and artillery forward observers are arrayed across the battle space behind extensive fortifications for infantry personnel. The entire forward edge of the battle area and miles on both sides of the FEBA is under 24 hour surveillance.
" It is typical for there to be between 25 and 50 UAVs from both sides operating over the contested area between the forward line of own troops (FLOT) and forward line of enemy troops (FLET) at any given time for each 10 km of frontage." Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies Special Report dated 19 May 2023
Air defense systems in depth and extensive enough to prevent Ukrainian air forces from attacking Russian artillery batteries.
Extensive mine fields that include anti tank mines mixed in with anti personnel mines.
Mix old tanks into the infantry fortifications. Photos of long train cars of old T54's being delivered to the Russian defensive area. Cue "HAR, Har dumb Russsies using 80 year old tanks."
As long as the Russians have forward observers and artillery arrayed across the battle space armor will not have a great effect.
Artillery trumps armor every time. As long as the Russians can prevent Ukrainian air to surface attacks on their artillery and have an artillery advantage the Russians will control the battle space.
Also consider a modern tank division that numbers 400 modern main battle tanks requires 600,000 gallons of fuel to operate every day. You are talking about 100 fuel trucks that only carry 5,000 gallons of fuel at a time operating near the forward edge of the battle space along with their support personnel and equipment.
As long as the Russians have artillery and forward observers and can prevent Ukrainian air forces from engaging their artillery the advantage is to the Russians, by a long shot. Meat grinder it is.
