Slide thread but the siege of sarajevo seems to imply yes to some extent, as bolts can pass through sandbags and other fortifications that bullets can't.
How exactly you'd implement them without hurting other aspects of war such as ammo carried is beyond me, though.

What the frick is being slid, Black person?
Crossbow threads have been a monthly occurrence if not bi weekly on this board since the beginning
There's an old US Army test video to be found somewhere on youtube. But long story short the low speed and high mass of arrows and bolts make them relatively good at going through things like water and sand where it's drag from an ongoing medium that stop you, whereas bullets are relatively good against thin barriers thanks to their extreme kinetic energy. Though whether this'd make crossbows useful in modern day war, well, that's a different question.
Theoretically secret squirrel ninja types could use them for sentry / dog removal
But in reality probably more useful as homemade weapons for guerrillas ambushing and assassinating security forces in occupied territory
Still based though
Dunno about battlefield,
But cossbows and especially *slingshots* have been hugely under-utilized during recent riots,
as far back as the 2014 G8 riots in Germany, but most egregiously since the 2018 Yellow Vest riots in France. Months of time for easy logistics flow to swell up, but never happened.
French police snipers were blowing the eyes out of a random old lady's skull, yet the most the Gilets Jaunes responded with was one slick MMA guy BTFOing a line of Gendarmes in riot gear with his bear hands,
And one brawl between a tight square of firefighters and a tight square of riot police.
Riots and protests are just slightly more dangerous LARPs. They're literally pretend-battles where just a few people get hurt so everyone feels like they "did something".
They were in use during the Vietnam War. The mountain tribes the Green Berets utilized against the north Vietnamese were still using simple crossbows for hunting at the time. They weren't strong enough to kill humans, but with a poision tip the game was different.
Draw weight is too low.
Big boy Crossbows that can punch through two men at the chest are available in most euro countries, and you can make one out of basic materials otherwise.
>You don't need to punch through 2 men.
Being able to punch through two men also means being able to penetrate heavy clothing, bleed a target faster due to better broadhead performance, penetrate Kevlar, shatter bone, and shoot flatter and harder from further away.
It means a greater range of engagement, faster time to kill or incapacitate, and less chance of return fire.
>It's enough to cause bleeding and the threat to life.
A pencil is enough to cause bleeding and a threat to life but I'd rather have a dagger.
>Better to shoot 10 smaller bolts than 1 big one.
In every conceivable, testable, historical, or physical way it is not. Surviving ten superficial stab wounds is not uncommon at all, and it certainly wont hold off a determined attacker.
Even if you WERE right, the Siege Adder that Joerg Sprave made is multi-shot and still clears 300 FPS.
style points, kill a guy with your crossbow in a firefight and none shall challenge your claim to the platoon twink for the evening (unless they killed a guy with a javelin, in which case they win)
China pretends to use them in their special forces, maybe for giggles they executed a political dissident or uygur with one but I dont think they actually use them earnestly.
it's more of a cultural/propaganda thing for them.
they are better than nothing if you live in Europe. They don't require license in some countries, and if you live somehwere where they need a license you can just buy them from france without problems. Also they are fun as frick to shoot and are completely different from firearms.

these are two different things.

Care to post a video of a sandbag stopping an arrow from any hunting strength bow?
They really aren't.
a sandbag will typically be compressed and in a pile
Okay how much of a difference does it make against an arrow? Show us.
How much different?

In my opinion yes, if your logistics are shit. Can hunt without being heard, reusable arrows. Might be annoying to lug around though
Xbows are loud as frick dude. Go shoot one and report back
The impact of the bolt is the loudest part of mine. No louder than a bb gun when firing
I was referring to my own crossbow, so you may be right. What causes normal bows to be louder?
crossbows are loud, but they sound like a car door being shut

It's plausible but not likely. An extra large suppressor and some subsonics would still be better.
Don't know if they can be classed as crossbows but sauterelles could be useful in some situations
Fire bolts are pretty good when the defending team uses Clash

they got nerfed
weren't they used as a terror weapon in the balkans?
Pretty certain there's a NATO ordering code for a crossbow with some sort of rappel line etc.
You can 3d print rapid fire crossbows now.
I'm pretty sure they will start appearing on european streets very soon.

What's the FPS on your 3d Printed bow?
For poorer nations sure. For those with money quieter and quieter suppressed firearms keep coming out.

Crossbows are toys for women and gays that can't draw a proper men's warbow

In ambush, it would be more than enough.
>Do crossbows have any kind of place on the modern battlefield?
Not against fellow Christians. They're fine for combat with the Saracens.
