scout's scattergun makes a little sense, the drum could be holding all the reserve shells and the lever could be ejecting the old shells while winding the spring to continue feeding the gun. Kinda like the mechanism on the street sweeper.

if someone had even the most minuscule amount of mechanical knowledge, they would be able to convert any low shelf AR to full-auto in about 5 minutes. Would it break the law? Yes. Is it going to break the law if they intended to do something bad anyway? Yes.

People don't know what they don't know. For example, most people aren't aware it supports movement in both directions. You push it forward after a press check, but you can also pull it back to the rear as well, release, and fire a shot at greatly reduced velocity, sometimes even subsonic with heavier ammo.

Self destruct button in case of enemy capture. The NRA lobbied that dangerous military function into most AR15s, making them extremely dangerous to capture and very likely to explode in the user's hands if accidentally activated. If your AR lacks that button then you have a safe rifle

      Anonymous

It's used to make the bolt/bolt carrier go forward in case the return spring hasn't completely returned (or may not have) and therefore prevent the rifle firing.

          Anonymous

It does, but the argument against it isn't that it is a bad idea per se, but because if it is needed you've got other issues. From malfunctioning cartridge, to shitty ammo. Furthermore if the issue is minor enough that the forward assist can fix it, then it isn't useful as a 'failsafe' that some claim it to be. It was added because the big wigs wanted a way to 'force' it 'into battery' (I term I dislike) but they didn't go fully into it afaik.

Ultimately most experts believe it is nice to have, but isn't used a lot. So it's a nice thing to have in a situation that may or may not happen (combat situation where somehow your gun doesn't fire and it's a minor fault). However for the L85A1 it was standard because that was one of the worst rifles in history (beaten arguably by the FAMAS and INSAS) and was fixed in the A2 by just fixing the mechanical issue that made it needed in the first place. But apparently it is still taught as a standard way to 'fix' your rifle in combat even though the A2 doesn't die outside of lab conditions any more (and the A3 is now becoming the standard).

Same and at this point I'm unironically too scared to ask.

i think its like if the gun jams it pushes on the bolt since theres no charging handle

Non-reciprocating charging handle means less moving mass and lower felt recoil but the catch is you can't force the bolt shut.
The army didn't like this and forced Colt to add the forward assist.

Lots of people act like the forward assist is terrible and ruins ARs, it's not. Others like to pretend it's needed, it's not.

Yup. Plus it's nice for press checks.

      Anonymous

because the charging handle on an AR15 is a hook that grabs the bolt and pulls it back but can't push it forward, the forward assist is there to push the bolt forward if needed.

Could it be more the fact that the shot which caused him to have to clear the rifle was at point blank range? As in the tip of the barrel was pressing into the skateboard gay's chest/stomach when he fired. Surely that could cause a frick up in cycling properly?
          t. No guns 🙁

            Anonymous

The most that would do is increase back pressure; as the gasses would take longer to escape out the muzzle and would force more gas through the gas port. This would only make the action cycle more violently which COULD cause a malfunction, but not the one he had.

Not going fully into battery can be explained by multiple factors common in steel case ammo:
            >weak load and poor gas seal reduce BCG velocity to less than what the gun is tuned for
            >higher friction on cases makes it take more energy to push the next round out of the magazine
            >shitty powder dirties up a brand new gun that has likely never been cleaned or lubricated, increasing friction on the whole system
Combine that and your bolt just barely travels back far enough to pick up the next round, then struggles to return to battery and getting stuck along the way.

Because press checks happen, especially on a crowded firing line. I only had to fail a drill under time pressure once in front of people, all because I had to "clear" a bolt that wasn't back in battery, for me to make it just another step in a press check.

Will it ever happen in the field? No idea, not my job. But it happened on a flat range, so personally, I'm glad to have it.

Do fat people deserve deserts? For that matter do thin healthy people?
Do homeless people deserve a house....talk to most of them and youll find the answer is frick no what scumbags.

Do israelites deserve Isreal? 109 countries before saud no but hey lets try again.

Tbe real question is what do civilians have a right to, what is not a right but socially, morally, and logistically acceptable and more importantly what isn't?

I think fire qnd forget weapons and unmanned drones with arms should not be.
I think you should have to physically pull tbe trigger/button and be there.... but im a bit of a worry wart, I'm also against private ownership of anything more destructive than a 120mm cannon. I think morally you should be able to own more power but logistically for society you just cant

Ackshually the name of that button is the "forward assist". What it does is exactly what the name implies.

It assists the bullet shell forward so the cartridge can fly out at super amor piercing speeds. Its like injecting NOS into a car engine. It just makes the shell really fast so the bullet has a bigger bang and does more damage.

Only push the button if you want to shoot something really extra hard though.

Meme aside is full auto with 30 rounds in a magazine really useful? Are you going to lay down suppressing fire on the Bloods 30 rounds of questionable accuracy at a time? There is a reason the standard M249 magazine is 200 rounds. Burst might have an argument.

What we need now is automatic-auto. I want the gun to continue firing without pulling the trigger. Just waste ammo and reduce effectiveness to the max.

He’s joking, right? I genuinely can’t tell anymore the lines are so blurry.
