I think that must have been a "mistranslation" from walrus to English, Jamie probably decided at some point that six pencils is the optimal quantity, so that's what he tells people to keep it at, but I doubt he's gonna yell at you if you give him five or seven. These are made specifically to cut hardened wire like piano wire. Regular cutters will have their cutting edges destroyed pretty fast if you do that. I got that model to cut cold-drawn stainless filler at work because it was tearing up the MIG pliers.

Piano wire is hardened so it can be pretty hard on your cutters. I still cut them with my diagonal cutters personally but it does beat up the edges.
I use a cutting disk on an angle grinder. Also effective on rubber, plastics, PVC pipe, copper tubing and much more.

These are made specifically to cut hardened wire like piano wire. Regular cutters will have their cutting edges destroyed pretty fast if you do that. I got that model to cut cold-drawn stainless filler at work because it was tearing up the MIG pliers.
