Disposal is fucked

Please PrepHole help me in my time of need

My garbage disposal is fricked. It's been fricked for a while but I didn't care because frick it, I don't need it. But it kept getting clogged so I would just plunge it . But now after a year or two of plunging it, it started leaking from all of the bolt holes in the bottom as well as where the power cord comes out. That's why I have the pot under it. I took apart the pipes and they were clear, so the clog is 100% in the disposal, and the whole thing is fricked so I have to replace it.

I'm not completely moronic so please convince me that I can do this myself. If I just get the same model it should be pretty simple right? Do I just take out those three bolts on the triangle thing and disconnect the pipes and slap it in? What if I can't find the same model? Are they sort of standardized size wise? Would a different model fit without me having the change the pipes to fit? What if I wanted to just remove the disposal and have just pipes? How hard would that be?

Please PrepHole you are all smarter than me so please help me and verbally abuse me and call me a moron or whatever thank you

Hopefully that dispose-all is going to be on a dedicated circuit that you'll easily find clearly labeled in you sub panel. Turn that off first. Then hit the wall switch anyway to confirm.
With the power safely off, just do as you suggest and drop the whole damn tithing. Go the box store and show them your pic and he'll most likely sell you a straight pipe long enough to go from your drain down to your trap. Along with a new basket and a wee bit of plumbers putty. Should take you no more than an hour at a snail's pace.

Also, before all that, check the side of your unit for a button to depress and check the breaker. If it runs, try cycling it for a bit. Throw some ice cubes and lemon peels through it to clean the blades and help with smell.

It's pretty brain-dead simple to relace, anon. They come with instructions. If you can't find the same model you mighty have to push the drain out of your sink and put some plumbers putty on it to reseal it.
Watch some youtube vids, there's not much to it though.

I don't think his is hard-wired in, they just put some flex conduit on the plug for some reason. It's going into a regular outlet.

Well, listen Perry, it's been explained to you at least a 100 times that if you shove banana peels and cups of wendy's chili, and egg shells down the damn thing you're going to break it. This is also like, what, your 4th disposal in like 2 years? So just bite the bullet and buy a new one, the apartment complex already told you they're not paying for another one for you.

Also, what did Randy Callahan's dick taste like anyway?

Is it worth getting an in sink disposal without the hole for the wrench at the bottom for unjamming it? I found a unit made by American Standard that's 1.25HP at a local discount retailer for $75 but am not sure if I should go for it or get something that's weaker & more expensive so that I don't have to deal with unjamming it with a broomstick if it somehow gets stuck. It seems just seems like so much of a cruder solution to me.

they don't jam much, i wouldn't worry about it.

if you're a moron and put like 1/2lb of uncooked pork rind in there so that it's not turning AND not draining, a wrench won't help. drop it off the sink into a bucket, take it out to a street drain and pressure wash it.

Alright, thanks. The one that I currently have is almost 30 years old and the bearings in it seem to be failing. It gets stuck frequently even though I don't use it that much. It is also loud as hell and shakes everything around it. I tend to throw most food waste into compost anyway, but it's annoying during the winter when its cold and there's snow outside.

Yes, in the US we don't have feeble roman era lead pipes to take our waste to the nearest gypsy hole like in EU and instead of throwing out garbage we jam it into our oversized freedom loving pipes after first macerating it with a in-sink grinder that has higher HP than your countries tanks

    >Food waste only
I literally don't have "food waste." Useless device, needless expense, and leak risk as demonstrated by the OP.
Why the frick don't they make these compatible with actual (human) waste? Fricking morons.

the grinder for poop and paper is called a macerator
the common household brand is saniflo

requiring electricity to poop is bad civilisation

    >For many years garbage disposers were illegal in N(J)ew York City because of a perceived threat of possible harm to the diet of the city's israelites, who dwell among the sewers, occasionally leaving to steal children from nearby primary/pre schools.
    Interesting.

Someone please explain the rationale behind calling a food-scrap drain a "garbage disposal." The device is clearly only compatible with a very limited sub-set of "garbage." It's name is a lie and if they are starting out with a deceptive name what else are they lying about?

      >Someone please explain the rationale behind calling a food-scrap drain a "garbage disposal.
It was invented by Dr. Henry Garbage in 1872

Food waste is garbage. Everything else to be discarded is Trash.

    >My garbage disposal is fricked. It's been fricked for a while but I didn't care because frick it, I don't need it.
Then get rid of it. Disconnect wiring, drain pipe and sink ring. Install sink drain. Get some PVC drain pipe to connect to existing p-trap. You might need a piece with a dishwasher drain tap.

Its not hard at all to replace them, you have 90% of the setup there already.
    1. Get you a new one from the store. Unless you choose an idiotic off brand one or a very special expensive one, they fit all the same.
    2. Use a 5/16 to undo the outlet bolts, back off the white plastic plumbing connectors about 1/4 turn, and gently move them out of the way
    3. Put a screwdriver through one of those three metal loops at the top, and turn it. If you go the wrong way, the other metal retainer will stop it. 4. The disposal will fall out of place, and it can be heavy.
    5. Get rid of that shit!
    6. Follow instructions in reverse to put your new one in. Change out only parts you need to. Dont screw with the bits attached to the sink. Dont forget to put the new seal in the outlet.

These things are a meme, why wouldn’t you use a mesh filter in the sink and clean it out when it gets dirty?

    >What if I can't find the same model? Are they sort of standardized size wise?

They all fit the most part are the same.
    >Sink mounting
    >Electrical cord
    >Hose to the air gap
    >Drain pipe

Yours looks like you don't need to bother with the air gap. It's easy as shit just follow the instructions. Drain pipes aren't under pressure so you really can't frick much up.
