I don't know what's happened in the last decade, whether they're harder to get now or something, but nobody seems to give a frick about PSLs these days. Used to be that if you wanted an SVD, youd buy a PSL or zasta, but now if you want an SVD it seems like people overpay for a Tigr/NDM or just give up. Its like they've fallen out of vogue, hard.
They're too damn expensive. I bought mine for $375 with scope and sling. My brother got his for about $600 a few years later from the BX/PX. Now they're at $2k+ for parts kit trash built on US receivers.
Buying a Tigr if you want an SVD is okay since with a simple swab of the FSB you already have something that is 99.9% the same beside markings.
Buying a PSL when they were sub 800$ was also ok even if it was a shitty scaled up AK that destroys itself since svds are too damn expensive.
Now that a PSL is FRICKING 3K USD IS INSANE.
Yeah this is /thread. At this point the PSL falls very firmly in the bucket of >not a bad item but a bad price
At $500-800 (taking into account inflation vs a few years ago) it was perfectly decent fun if that's what you were after. Not a stunning performer but you weren't paying for one either. Somehow they've turned into gucci pricing though which defeats the entire purpose and puts them in direct competition with nice-from-day-1 rifles.
That is way to much for a gun that beats it self up as much as a PSL. Mine has actually wallowed out the barrel trunion rivet holes in the receiver, so the barrel/trunnion actually wobble around. Amazingly the damned thing still groups well with iron sights, scope is useless.
I had no idea they were so expensive now, I paid $325 for mine a long time ago, might actually try and fix it since it's somewhat valuable now.

If you've gotta scratch the svd itch and you're already spending 3k or more it makes a lot more sense to buy a tigr or a ndm than a fricking PSL
sure for the money you could get some more modern tacticool stuff but its a well made and reliable rifle that shoots well, plus its a cool and powerful caliber. and as for the looks id say its cool as frick. some guns just have that cool factor anon, its not always about minmaxing everything.
I want yugo m76 so bad. Buy a parts kit and send out to a gunsmith? Is this the only way?
depends on where ur at. ex-yu countries still have some floating around for around 1000 euros but its all down to luck as far as the condition goes. do you prefer it over the m91? just like the round better or is it something else?
NTA but the M76 is one of the best options for a somewhat modern semi auto rifle in 8mm mauser. Why does that matter? You can still get your hands on ww2 surplus SmkH ammo that will defeat lvl4 plates. Probably should pull the bullets and reload with fresh brass and powder but those are proper tungsten penetrators.
so in your opinion the 8mm mauser is a better choice today than the 7,62x54R ? also idk about the availability of surplus ammo where im at, but say i can easily get new soft point 139gr 8mm mauser ammo and FMJ BT 182gr 7,62x54R. which would be more effective/how big would the difference even be?

Its like buying a PTR or a FAL at this point, cool, but not a good gun for the price

neat but extremely overpriced for what it is
Mine launches brass 30+ yards. Is that a problem or do they all do that?
Mine too. Likely over gassed.
for me, its the Zastava M91, the connoisseurs choice
It's better than a psl but it's still overpriced as frick for what it is. And ugly as sin

have you looked into m77? its an m76 in 308
selling mine at a lgs rn for 1k, it too expensive to shoot and the accuracy is unsatisfying

OP here, thanks for making my day /k/. I just wanted to talk about PSLs and PSL accessories
