My impression is the specific mil sims like Hoi, black sea, arma etc. Are all worthless except for roleplaying.
The problem is, they're designed to be games first, and therefore "fun" rather than "realistic". Who would want to play HoI if whether you won or lost depended almost solely on who got the Lend-Lease firehose each playthrough?
when i played it back then, civ 5 taught me the need of doing the utmost necessary in order to stay two or three steps ahead of everybody else to protect my own and my allied civs or city states from different kind of Black person civs and the french.
everytime i tried to be the benevolent leader that simply constructs wonders, makes money, does science or cultural achievements, some other civ came along and took one of my cities, which then took me a hundred years to take it back or they annexed one of my allied city states, disrupting trade routes.

I was in a multiplayer game with some guys from /vst/, and I was playing as Russia with the second highest score out of everyone. The one with the highest score was Japan, who was to my West, and to my South was Persia and Morocco, who were far behind Japan and myself but who had formed some kind of partnership. Japan invaded and took two of my coastal cities because I had neglected my navy, but I counterattacked by sending cavalry behind his lines and pillaging all his luxury resources so he was forced to return the cities or face total collapse from the unhappiness penalty. Morocco also attacked but didn't really do anything other than loot a trade route. I had lost a good chunk of my army during this war, but I decided to focus on rebuilding my cities instead of my army because I thought Japan had learned his lesson and wouldn't attack for a while.
Then Persia and Morocco invaded, with Persia sneaking an army right up to my borders by assembling it in a city state before attacking. I was caught completely off guard, and thought I was about to lose the game completely, but I quickly placed down a citadel in a mountain pass chokepoint between my southernmost city, the enemy city-state, Persia, and the rest of my territory, and started pumping out cossacks which I had just unlocked. Persia couldn't take the citadel and I managed to force them back into the sea, while Morocco couldn't take my southern city because the terrain was too difficult. I then decided frick it, no more mr nice guy, and rushed artillery to kill everyone around me. Then everyone dropped out due to technical difficulties but by that point I had basically won the game. The most fun I've ever had.

No I learned it from Endless Legend which is why I understand that killing someone elses troops or ships aren't acts of war unless it happens on their territory. therefore since Ruzzia hasn't signed a peace treaty with America it would mean that we can infact bombard Russian troops in Ukraine since it isn't Russian territory yet
I learned that you should position your invasion force one tile back from the other civ's borders to avoid triggering the "I see your armies amassed near my borders, do sumthin homie pull up" message where you have to either declare war there and then and lose the element of surprise or deny the allegations and go back on your word a few turns later, which issues you with a heavy opionion penalty with the other civs.
I understood waging war for luxury and strategic resources as well as colonizing and and maintaining happiness and rigging elections for city states and the benefits of being their allies. So many times I would tell myself I would do a peaceful playtbrough only to be forced into a war because my rival is becoming too strong. Whenever something happens in the real world, I see it though the lens of civ v and I understand clearly why a country does what it does.
I never play with any victory conditions that aren't domination so by the time I reach endgame the world always becomes a Warhammer 40k-esqe hellhole as I liberally use stealth bombers and nuclear weapons to achieve my goals
Kek, it's always feels good to bomb the shit out of them with stealth bomber, but it gets monotone very quickly.

Actually I found Battle for Polytopia gives some really good pointers on warfare. Especially on how important logistics are. Just played several games where there is a Bakhmut style struggle by the enemy to take one of my high level forward citiy, he won, but his force is spent and he is unable to take my next city; allowing me to counter attack in other fronts completely steamrolling him by attrition. Learned a lot from this game, such as tempo and defense in depth.
Still like to play it for time to time, but they need to give some larger maps to make the game last longer
>running barbarians evolved mod >set spawn rate to deity (not familiar with the difficulty curve yet) >huge map >continents >start as Aria from Mass Effect because early game production is god >early game goes smooth, smart enough to go overboard with combat units >farm the shit out of culture from every killed barabari- >PARIS HAS FALLEN >LEADER CONTROLS THE MOST CAPITALS (2) >that was fast bu- >EARTH HAS FALLEN >LEADER CONTROLS THE MOST CAPITALS (3) >is that even on my continen- >MECCA HAS FALLEN >LEADER CONTROLS THE MOST CAPITALS (4) >immediately ramp up unit production and try to scout of the continent >figure out at least two of the fallen civs were nearby when find Attila's Court surrounded by 20 barbarian units an has no heal- >ATTILA'S COURT HAS FALLEN >frick >get driven back to the very gates of Omega >very slowly roll back the tide >spend next 2000 years liberating my continent, taking, retaking, liberating, retaking and annexing the weaker civs that can't defend themselves (all of them) >other continent is completely lost to the horde >get caravel and finally see the damage >every single coastal tile is a barbarian unit >have to make landfall before they discover caravels themselves >spend hundreds of years just trying to get a fricking beach head established >suddenly barbarian caravel sighted around year 1600 >oh frick >caravels fricking everywhere even on my own shores >spam ironclads >oh christ they're over running the ironclads >expeditionary fleet completely wiped out >expeditionary force cut off, completely surrounded >they're the most elite of the elite having gained a million experience >extra range, two attacks per turn cannons slowly cull the swarm on land and sea >recapture a city state and annex to upgrade the lost legion >It is the 19th century, every city is under daily attack from suicidal caravels. The line barely holds outside Jerusalem.
That's where I saved. I should go back at some point, but frick those games are exhausting.
I loved the games where all the AI gang up on you and invade simultaneously, makes it exciting, and even more rewarding when you burn their fricking houses down in return
>Decide to do Piety playthrough as Byzantine >Annex capital of civ (Siam?) to my northeast since land is full of luxury resource that benefits my religion >Harald (Denmark) is to the west and conquers Siam's last city situated on the coast wiping him out. >I go to war with Harald just to conquer that city and raze to make my own since it's in a very comfy location (coast in between 2 mountains) >During this entire time, Shoshone was to the south just making cities left and right. Doesn't like me due to all the war I've been doing. >Entire continent is essentially split in 2 between Shoshone and I. I control the north and he controls the south, Denmark has a sliver of land in between us to the west >Medieval age Shoshone declares war >We share long border and I send my troops to the border cities to defend >They are spread too thin and border is full of hills which slows the flow of reinforcements >He is hitting all cities at once. When I send reinforcements to a city being hit, he pulls back and sends them to another city to pillage the area outside it >I replenish frontline troops at a slow rate even with purchasing troops with faith.. >Its enough to defend but not enough to counter attack into his territory >I slowly build up small but powerful navy along with expeditionary force >They sail south down the east coast and soften up defenses. >Since Shoshone is to the south, there's a ton of ice which makes navigation tricky. >One by one his southern cities fall until I reach his capital next to the tundra. >Can't remember if I conquered it or not. >At this point the war was won but I lost sight of what victory I should go for and gave up
>Rolling japs because bushido is OP for conquest victory >Too early to start the world conquering rapetrain >Trying to build up forces >Suddenly, washington rings me up >"SUP FRICKER, TIME FOR WAR" >He, the Khans, Siam and Germany are all invading me completely unprovoked >Frick >Upside, I had placed my cities in a mountain range, essentially turning their approach into a massive killzone full of trees >One by one in the north and south they start marching troops in >They all get rained down upon by arrows >5 turns in, realize there's too many to stop before hitting the first city >Turn from hitting the front of the line to focusing infantry so they can't cap anything >At least 3 squads of warrior cut down by the time they get in range to start hitting the first city >The archer squads I had outside the city were cut to pieces >Their infantry doesn't even wait for trebuchet support, they just start sieging immediately >This probably saved the city because it made it a LOT easier to burn down their remaining melee units >Once the last melee is gone, focus down their remaining range units >Slowly grind the conflict down to a stalemate >After several turns of them having literally nothing to attack with, they sue for peace >Agree >I had lost 4 archers, 3 samurai and a catapult >Immediately switch tech from economy to siege weapons >Every city is producing troops >Everyone I just slapped starts denouncing me to all their friends >My people are unhappy because they raided my plantations and ruined my luxury resource improvements >They think the war is over
>Use great general to take more luxury resources near my territory >Continue pumping out troops and siege weapons >Barely manage to stabilize my economy >Decide on my first target >Washington >That smug motherfricker >Every time I talk to him he has this aura of superiority around him, like he thinks he's god's gift to earth >Once I have the troops ready and the treaty expires, they charge into the burgerlands >I quickly surround his city to push the AI to fire at the infantry >I follow up by setting up catapults on the nearby hill >In short order, he's lost his first city >Then the next >And the next >All while I'm slowly grinding through my troops >As long as there's one man left per unit, it still does full attack strength >It doesn't matter how many I lose, as long as I don't lose the unit >Finally overrun his capital >I have 3 of the 7 units of infantry I charged in with, sitting at roughly 10% health each >I check the diplomacy screen >Everyone is guarded >"They fear your warmongering will bring about a new dark age" >God willing, it will
>This process repeats itself until I've completely conquered the entirety of my starting continent >Finally, peace >For now >Return to bolstering my economy >Start pumping out trade caravans and subverting city states to support me >Begin preparing to set sail in search of new lands to conquer >There's still several unmet AI players >Some of which have a higher score than me >I had no idea how brutal things would be >Once I finally get the tech to set sail across the ocean, send a scouting vessel >First city I find on the other side of the world >London
>England says hi >Keep looking >Find the Netherlands >Dude's down to his last city >Sitting on the coast >He's been completely fricked up by the English >In fact, so had everyone else on the continent >Move my troops into position >Spring the attack >Siege and secure Amsterdam >England immediately rings me up >"OI WANKA, DATS MOY JAWB DAT BE!" >Denounces me to everyone else they know >Use another great general to steal luxury resources from England >Place another city on a small island near by >"OI STOP SETTLIN CITIES SO CLOSE TO ME BOARDER!" >no frick off >We're now getting into the industrial age proper >My troops are rocking proper equipment >Artillery to bring down my enemies cities >Machineguns to cut down any advance >Start moving all my troops to the "new world" >Station everyone >Unlock paratroopers >This is gonna be a short war >Fricking England lmao >What are they gonna do? >Ask me for my conquest license? >March into their lands without a second thought
>Roughly 100 turns later >The border hasn't moved an inch >It's been a bloodbath >Wave after wave of infantry I send in gets chewed to pieces >Their troops cant even get across because they end up shelled to pieces before they can get near Amsterdam >Only had limited success with paratroopers being able to take out a few machinegun nests >Plan changed to cutting down the English infantry as they pushed us >It's worked, but they always have more troops >I've lost countless troops trying to make a dent in their line >They've lost the same amount trying to push into my land >The biggest issue is the forest between us and their city, my men always end up blown apart before they can get close to capturing it and my guns can't get enough range to hit it without being in direct line of fire >There's even been a limited war at sea >Having to funnel most of my troops from the mainland, I have them escorted by warships >We've lost a couple but the troops always make it >Decide to change the plan >Start mass producing bombers >Ship them on aircraft carriers >Send them to Amsterdam and my island city >Start bombing the living shit out of the city nearest >Slowly start to push with infantry through the woods >Lose two squads on approach >Finally take it >I don't even remember which city it was, immediately razed it >England sues for peace >They offer another city >Accept >Start building a road to my new city >My entire society has been turned into an autocratic warmongering factory of death

>Start absolutely packing my territory for round 2 >Bombers, infantry, arty, and even tanks now >Lot fewer trees in the way this time >Treaty finally expires >Push forward expecting to be hit by a wall of English guns like before >A few infantry squads and a cannon meet me >They're blown apart by bombers >And that's it >Nothing else comes our way >City by city we claim the English lands >And that's it >Game ends >"GRATZ, YOU SUBJUGATED THE WHOLE WORLD!" >Completely anticlimactic >I was prepared for a huge response when we crossed into their territory again >And they just crumpled
Wish there were a more dramatic ending, but that was it.
my deity level game, my only one at that high level had me as Ethiopia thankfully surrounded by mountains I was never not at war, everyone was well ahead of me in tech I couldn't build a single wonder and could not found cities because they just got fricking rekt the moment I set outside my mountain ring, at last they whittled each other down to where it was just one empire left against me, and I started catching up in technology. it was all I could do to churn out military units to keep them out of the mountains, as they flew 10 atomic bombs from one city to the other out of range to actually hit me so they never used them.
I was finally able to make XCom units and take out the city with the atomic bombs in the turn that they landed them there and start making a few other cities before I could get some resources and make my own nuclear arsenal.
Shit was a slog I'll never play at that high of difficulty again because you're never not at war, and they gain so many techs for free that its' basically cheating, I had to disable all other victory conditions but domination because there was no way I could keep up with them in science, culture, and economy.
The only thing that kept me in the game was Ethiopia's bonus at defending against civilizations with more cities than them, it let longswordsmen stand up against riflemen.
I wish my zoomer brain was smart enough to play Alpha Centuri since the aesthetics and story is unironically among the best for any game ever but I always end up getting fricked over by Miriam or Lady Skye and losing.
my favorite CIV V game was playing an industrial era start game as Mongolia. Babylon ended up so massively dominant that even though I used about 10 tactical nukes in my opening salvo it still ended up being a massive lumbering slog that took like 200 turns.
How does civ 6 compare to civ 5? I still haven't played it. I find the district mechanic interesting but the art style and the leaders a turn off
The most fun I ever had playing civ is playing a gimmick match as certain civs
>archipelago map as England >build massive fleet of ship of the lines and proceed to easily conquer the world
>Pangea map as Shoshone >build massive army of Comanche riders and sweep across the entire continent
I think my Shoshone playthrough was my bloodiest war. The casualties I caused during my conquest was akin to the Mongol invasions. If I remember correctly, once I researched comanche riders my entire conquest was just 1 long never ending war. Just as I was about to capture the capital of a civ, someone wold denounce me and I would declare war on them immediately. My vanguard would heal in the captured territory while my fresh troops would march forward and cap new territory. Rinse and repeat. iirc Russia was the longest one because they had the most land
>How does civ 6 compare to civ 5?
I tried to play it but never could stand it after a an hour. The design, art style, mechanics- everything feels wrong.
Civ4 me (Portugal) vs Russia. It was the end of the game and all techs were unlocked. Evenly matched forces Nukes were banned by the UN before anyone produced them in great quantities so it turned into a WW1 style slogfest.
It took place all around the world since me and Russia had massive colonial empires. By the end of it, I was victorious, annexed all their cities but one, and vassalized them. It was at a great cost though, all my cities were geared towards pumping out soldiers for the entirety of the war. This set back my science victory and I ended up winning a score victory.
I found a ballistic missile mod for Civ 6 that was a lot of fun, but then my more powerful laptop got damaged, so I haven't been able to play much of anything not on GeForce Now unfortunately. Especially since the RE4 Remake is coming out next month, but hopefully Labyrinth of Galleria (not /k/ related) will be on GFN. I can only play CyberPunk so much in one day...
I did. It's a great resource for learning about the politics, strategy and logistics of war, but I found the representation of naval warfare lacking, so I'd advise you to supplement it with a game like KanColle.
>playing the best civ game >call to power:2 >select ecofascism as my ideology >build ecoterrorist >hippie bus stealths to enemy city >nanite bomb goes off and turns city of 22million people into a FRICKING PARK
man what were they thinking. it wasnt even a combat unit so it could stealth
>recovered the drive on laptop >everything working as it should >load up my civ game >notice that Ghandi is my neighbor >his empire is nearly as strong as mine(I'm number 3, he's number 4) >mod I'm using will transfer player control to weakest civ after I hit the highest score in game >weakest score is Zulu city state, this will be the civ I finish the game with >It's sandwiched between Ghandi and a handful of other city states
This endgame is gonna be interesting.
I always played Civ the American way. I spent all my research and upgrades to maximize the money income per round, and by the mid/late game I just bought a new submarine/carrier/battleship every round and my friends simply couldn't manufacture military units quicker than me outright buying them.
I controlled the seas and then suffocated them with my military might.
This right here is what makes civ 5 stupid fricking easy. I've recently started playing civ 4 and I've found it to be much more challenging and rewarding without the ability to purchase units.
>tfw I frigate rush every single game >tfw they somehow never expect it >tfw almost every single game I play ends with the other player ragequitting because they suddenly don't have coastal cities any more >tfw this has caused me to become so obsessed with 19th century naval technology that I started a 300 reply thread about it a few days ago
I just want to live in the timeline where one power developed submarines while everyone else was using frigates, and inflicted absolutely disgusting losses on enemy navies, like in my civ games.
The one time I actually used subs, the sub I bought with cash to deal with barbs ended up soloing three barbarian ships (a caravel, frigate, and privateer) and killing all of them with barely any HP loss.
I can see how a couple of them would be a minor inconvenience to a frigate rush.
>Go to war with some bastard who broke your vibes settling close to your capital, eventually just clearing him off the map entirely so no back-and-forth occurs. >Whole international community dogpiles you in denouncements and sanctions
That part's realistic
yeah I was playing Brazil and I was waiting for other empires to adopt order and then revolt and instantly go to freedom for an achievement but nobody adopted order everyone adopted freedom so I was just nuking them.
Brazil is kind of fricking broken for cultural games. I had won the game like 400 years earlier.
I should have just made a new game and disabled cultural victory which is what it took to get the brazil achievements, or put it on king+ difficulty rather than a low difficulty just to get the achievements.

some of these age of empires 2 memes have tons of wisdom in them
I can't get into Civ at all, I prefer paradox map games much more.
What's the best warfare mods for Civ4?
At the very least I need country specific unit names like M1 Abrams, F35, Arleigh-Burke Class etc.
Advanced units mods does this. Theres a set of them for air, land and sea units. The Americans have some particularly nice units like the Constitution class frigates which mog everything up to WW2 era stuff, and the B29.
rise of mankind a new dawn mod is the absolute best compilation and the pinnacle of non-cucked TBS games.
That's the one I ended up downloading. Loving it so far. It definitely added some depth to the empire management, can't just steamroll without consequences anymore.

>set spawn rate to deity (not familiar with the difficulty curve yet)
>huge map
>continents
>start as Aria from Mass Effect because early game production is god
>early game goes smooth, smart enough to go overboard with combat units
>farm the shit out of culture from every killed barabari-

>ATTILA'S COURT HAS FALLEN
>frick
>get driven back to the very gates of Omega
>very slowly roll back the tide
>spend next 2000 years liberating my continent, taking, retaking, liberating, retaking and annexing the weaker civs that can't defend themselves (all of them)
>other continent is completely lost to the horde
>get caravel and finally see the damage
>every single coastal tile is a barbarian unit
>have to make landfall before they discover caravels themselves
>spend hundreds of years just trying to get a fricking beach head established
>suddenly barbarian caravel sighted around year 1600
>oh frick
>caravels fricking everywhere even on my own shores
>spam ironclads
>oh christ they're over running the ironclads
>expeditionary fleet completely wiped out
>expeditionary force cut off, completely surrounded
>they're the most elite of the elite having gained a million experience
>extra range, two attacks per turn cannons slowly cull the swarm on land and sea
>recapture a city state and annex to upgrade the lost legion
>It is the 19th century, every city is under daily attack from suicidal caravels. The line barely holds outside Jerusalem.
That's where I saved. I should go back at some point, but frick those games are exhausting.
I loved the games where all the AI gang up on you and invade simultaneously, makes it exciting, and even more rewarding when you burn their fricking houses down in return
>defeat your worst enemy early game
>they become your most trusted ally
Based Shaka
>Decide to do Piety playthrough as Byzantine
>Annex capital of civ (Siam?) to my northeast since land is full of luxury resource that benefits my religion
>Harald (Denmark) is to the west and conquers Siam's last city situated on the coast wiping him out.
>I go to war with Harald just to conquer that city and raze to make my own since it's in a very comfy location (coast in between 2 mountains)
>During this entire time, Shoshone was to the south just making cities left and right. Doesn't like me due to all the war I've been doing.
>Entire continent is essentially split in 2 between Shoshone and I. I control the north and he controls the south, Denmark has a sliver of land in between us to the west
>Medieval age Shoshone declares war
>We share long border and I send my troops to the border cities to defend
>They are spread too thin and border is full of hills which slows the flow of reinforcements
>He is hitting all cities at once. When I send reinforcements to a city being hit, he pulls back and sends them to another city to pillage the area outside it
>I replenish frontline troops at a slow rate even with purchasing troops with faith.. >Its enough to defend but not enough to counter attack into his territory
>I slowly build up small but powerful navy along with expeditionary force
>They sail south down the east coast and soften up defenses.
>Since Shoshone is to the south, there's a ton of ice which makes navigation tricky.
>One by one his southern cities fall until I reach his capital next to the tundra.
>Can't remember if I conquered it or not.
>At this point the war was won but I lost sight of what victory I should go for and gave up
I remember I used to fight mongol campaigns on pangea.
It would get to like the industrial era and I would still be killing WW1 infantry with keshik spam.
>Rolling japs because bushido is OP for conquest victory
>Too early to start the world conquering rapetrain
>Trying to build up forces

>Frick
>Upside, I had placed my cities in a mountain range, essentially turning their approach into a massive killzone full of trees
>One by one in the north and south they start marching troops in
>They all get rained down upon by arrows
>5 turns in, realize there's too many to stop before hitting the first city
>Turn from hitting the front of the line to focusing infantry so they can't cap anything
>At least 3 squads of warrior cut down by the time they get in range to start hitting the first city
>The archer squads I had outside the city were cut to pieces
>Their infantry doesn't even wait for trebuchet support, they just start sieging immediately
>This probably saved the city because it made it a LOT easier to burn down their remaining melee units
>Once the last melee is gone, focus down their remaining range units
>Slowly grind the conflict down to a stalemate
>After several turns of them having literally nothing to attack with, they sue for peace
>Agree
>I had lost 4 archers, 3 samurai and a catapult
>Immediately switch tech from economy to siege weapons
>Every city is producing troops
>Everyone I just slapped starts denouncing me to all their friends
>My people are unhappy because they raided my plantations and ruined my luxury resource improvements
>They think the war is over
>Use great general to take more luxury resources near my territory
>Continue pumping out troops and siege weapons
>Barely manage to stabilize my economy
>Decide on my first target
>Washington
>That smug motherfricker
>Every time I talk to him he has this aura of superiority around him, like he thinks he's god's gift to earth
>Once I have the troops ready and the treaty expires, they charge into the burgerlands
>I quickly surround his city to push the AI to fire at the infantry
>I follow up by setting up catapults on the nearby hill
>In short order, he's lost his first city
>Then the next
>And the next
>All while I'm slowly grinding through my troops
>As long as there's one man left per unit, it still does full attack strength
>It doesn't matter how many I lose, as long as I don't lose the unit
>Finally overrun his capital
>I have 3 of the 7 units of infantry I charged in with, sitting at roughly 10% health each
>I check the diplomacy screen
>Everyone is guarded
>"They fear your warmongering will bring about a new dark age"
>God willing, it will
>This process repeats itself until I've completely conquered the entirety of my starting continent
>Finally, peace
>For now
>Return to bolstering my economy
>Start pumping out trade caravans and subverting city states to support me
>Begin preparing to set sail in search of new lands to conquer
>There's still several unmet AI players
>Some of which have a higher score than me
>I had no idea how brutal things would be
>Once I finally get the tech to set sail across the ocean, send a scouting vessel
>First city I find on the other side of the world
>London
>England says hi
>Keep looking
>Find the Netherlands
>Dude's down to his last city
>Sitting on the coast
>He's been completely fricked up by the English
>In fact, so had everyone else on the continent
>Move my troops into position
>Spring the attack
>Siege and secure Amsterdam
>England immediately rings me up
>"OI WANKA, DATS MOY JAWB DAT BE!"
>Denounces me to everyone else they know
>Use another great general to steal luxury resources from England
>Place another city on a small island near by
>"OI STOP SETTLIN CITIES SO CLOSE TO ME BOARDER!"
>no frick off
>We're now getting into the industrial age proper
>My troops are rocking proper equipment
>Artillery to bring down my enemies cities
>Machineguns to cut down any advance
>Start moving all my troops to the "new world"
>Station everyone
>Unlock paratroopers
>This is gonna be a short war
>Fricking England lmao
>What are they gonna do?
>Ask me for my conquest license?
>March into their lands without a second thought
>Roughly 100 turns later
>The border hasn't moved an inch
>It's been a bloodbath
>Wave after wave of infantry I send in gets chewed to pieces
>Their troops cant even get across because they end up shelled to pieces before they can get near Amsterdam
>Only had limited success with paratroopers being able to take out a few machinegun nests
>Plan changed to cutting down the English infantry as they pushed us
>It's worked, but they always have more troops
>I've lost countless troops trying to make a dent in their line
>They've lost the same amount trying to push into my land
>The biggest issue is the forest between us and their city, my men always end up blown apart before they can get close to capturing it and my guns can't get enough range to hit it without being in direct line of fire
>There's even been a limited war at sea
>Having to funnel most of my troops from the mainland, I have them escorted by warships
>We've lost a couple but the troops always make it
>Decide to change the plan
>Start mass producing bombers
>Ship them on aircraft carriers
>Send them to Amsterdam and my island city
>Start bombing the living shit out of the city nearest
>Slowly start to push with infantry through the woods
>Lose two squads on approach
>Finally take it
>I don't even remember which city it was, immediately razed it
>England sues for peace
>They offer another city
>Accept
>Start building a road to my new city
>My entire society has been turned into an autocratic warmongering factory of death
>Start absolutely packing my territory for round 2
>Bombers, infantry, arty, and even tanks now
>Lot fewer trees in the way this time
>Treaty finally expires
>Push forward expecting to be hit by a wall of English guns like before
>A few infantry squads and a cannon meet me
>They're blown apart by bombers
>And that's it
>Nothing else comes our way
>City by city we claim the English lands
>And that's it
>Game ends
>"GRATZ, YOU SUBJUGATED THE WHOLE WORLD!"
>Completely anticlimactic
>I was prepared for a huge response when we crossed into their territory again
>And they just crumpled
Wish there were a more dramatic ending, but that was it.
I always love it when that happens though.
my deity level game, my only one at that high level had me as Ethiopia thankfully surrounded by mountains I was never not at war, everyone was well ahead of me in tech I couldn't build a single wonder and could not found cities because they just got fricking rekt the moment I set outside my mountain ring, at last they whittled each other down to where it was just one empire left against me, and I started catching up in technology. it was all I could do to churn out military units to keep them out of the mountains, as they flew 10 atomic bombs from one city to the other out of range to actually hit me so they never used them.
I find the district mechanic interesting but the art style and the leaders a turn off
The most fun I ever had playing civ is playing a gimmick match as certain civs
>archipelago map as England
>build massive fleet of ship of the lines and proceed to easily conquer the world
>Pangea map as Shoshone
>build massive army of Comanche riders and sweep across the entire continent
This set back my science victory and I ended up winning a score victory.
frick me you're al zoomers
Who's Al Zoomers?
>Everything
Um. Games are supposed to be something that would turn you onto looking up X or Y thing that the game references, and read from there.
I did. It's a great resource for learning about the politics, strategy and logistics of war, but I found the representation of naval warfare lacking, so I'd advise you to supplement it with a game like KanColle.
>playing the best civ game
>call to power:2
>select ecofascism as my ideology
>build ecoterrorist
>hippie bus stealths to enemy city
>nanite bomb goes off and turns city of 22million people into a FRICKING PARK
man what were they thinking. it wasnt even a combat unit so it could stealth
No mind worms, so it's not evil enough.
>played a game of civ 4 last night
>forgot to exit to desktop and fell asleep
>wake up and laptop is nuked
FRICK
>laptop is nuked
>recovered the drive on laptop
>everything working as it should
>load up my civ game
>notice that Ghandi is my neighbor
>his empire is nearly as strong as mine(I'm number 3, he's number 4)
>mod I'm using will transfer player control to weakest civ after I hit the highest score in game
>weakest score is Zulu city state, this will be the civ I finish the game with
>It's sandwiched between Ghandi and a handful of other city states
This endgame is gonna be interesting.
I always played Civ the American way. I spent all my research and upgrades to maximize the money income per round, and by the mid/late game I just bought a new submarine/carrier/battleship every round and my friends simply couldn't manufacture military units quicker than me outright buying them.
I controlled the seas and then suffocated them with my military might.
This right here is what makes civ 5 stupid fricking easy. I've recently started playing civ 4 and I've found it to be much more challenging and rewarding without the ability to purchase units.
>tfw I frigate rush every single game
>tfw they somehow never expect it
>tfw almost every single game I play ends with the other player ragequitting because they suddenly don't have coastal cities any more
>tfw this has caused me to become so obsessed with 19th century naval technology that I started a 300 reply thread about it a few days ago
I just want to live in the timeline where one power developed submarines while everyone else was using frigates, and inflicted absolutely disgusting losses on enemy navies, like in my civ games.
Sub spam is the technique I use in multiplayer games
>lmao this guy doesn't have a navy
>suddenly surrounded by dozens of submarines
The one time I actually used subs, the sub I bought with cash to deal with barbs ended up soloing three barbarian ships (a caravel, frigate, and privateer) and killing all of them with barely any HP loss.
I can see how a couple of them would be a minor inconvenience to a frigate rush.
>Go to war with some bastard who broke your vibes settling close to your capital, eventually just clearing him off the map entirely so no back-and-forth occurs.
>Whole international community dogpiles you in denouncements and sanctions
That part's realistic
no but I love Civ V
The funniest thing about this image is the Carnival! in the corner.
yeah I was playing Brazil and I was waiting for other empires to adopt order and then revolt and instantly go to freedom for an achievement but nobody adopted order everyone adopted freedom so I was just nuking them.
Brazil is kind of fricking broken for cultural games. I had won the game like 400 years earlier.
I should have just made a new game and disabled cultural victory which is what it took to get the brazil achievements, or put it on king+ difficulty rather than a low difficulty just to get the achievements.
no, i learned it from Civ Rev and AOE 3.
No, because i am not a child I learned it from Civ II and Colonization.
God, I love keshiks rush. Roleplaying as mongol khan, beelining to chivalry, spam keshiks, and the continent will be dominated by horse frickers.
Also, the Byzantium in civ 6 is fun. Crusades, cavalry rush plus religion victory.
Civ 5 giant earth was the bomb. Shame it’s broken in Civ 6.
