Shit's easy, cut it all off. I use an Andis ceramic #50 blade on their nice commercial grade clippers. I bought mine from a veterinary supply. The feeble clippers at the BX couldn't hang.
Zap everything with the #50 then follow up with an electric razor. Hair is bad.
Unironically this, had a boss who was a very fashionable guy who only used a flobee. I know some other people who use one as well who were also into fashion at some point.
Practice. I cut my own, and I can get it looking good now. but I'm not going to claim I got it right the first time. Worst case buzz it all off, you can try again a month later.
This. I started during the Coof, and it took me two attempts to get it right - it's not hard, you just have to get the feel for it. There's tons of YouTube videos that show you how to do a basic cut.
The first time I tried, I just fricked up, so I used a #2 and gave myself a buzz cut. Which was pretty cool, to be honest. But I eventually got the basic cut down.
like others have said, it's actually kind of easy, barbes have no secret magic formula, they're just betting on people beint lazy and afraid of social judgement for their bad haircuts (which are temporary anyways).
if I could give you a tip is to get one of those mirror sets which has 3 mirrors, 2 that extend outwards from the middle one, and you're going to set it up against a walled mirror.
this way you'll have 2 parallel mirros and 2 side mirrors, so you'll have a pretty good view of all sides of your head, and what you're doing to it
I use a Philips electric razor with guards that can be set to 40mm.
If you want longer, you're gonna have to go with trial and error and preferably multiple mirrors.
Back when I cut my own hair using scissors, people thought it looked good but a hairdresser could see I obviously cut my own hair
I started doing during covid when everything was closed. It's scary at first, but once you get the hang of it. it's simple. I bought some nice Wahl cordless clippers and start out with a 1" guard and do my whole head with that then gradually go down in size from there. I usually end up with a 3/4' guard on top and 1/4" on the sides. After you do it you'll be like I can't believe I was spending $20-$25 a month to go to the barber, I haven't been back to one since march of 2020.
Watch youtube tutorials. Figure out hair physics. If you have longer hair and want to do layers buy picrel and some hair clips. Be prepared to frick up and wait for it to grow back.

Depends on the style you want. If you want it longer, use scissors. If you want it shorter, use clippers with the requisite guards.
Flobee

I let my hair grow fully out like a schizo, no trimming no conditioning.
Random women call be cute names and talk to me like I'm a baby.
you can just use scissors man. unless you're a drooling moron it's pretty hard to frick up.
