Cowboy guns Posted on March 2, 2023 by PrepHole Contributor What do you think of carrying a single action revolver in 2023? Is this still relevant?
Was it ever relevant? Iirc the most popular Wild West guns were shotguns and rifles that had practical use beyond shooting humans and medium game.
Carrying a Big Iron may mean one of three things:
1. You're a vicious and a killer, though a youth of 24
2. You're here to do some business
3. You have never been assaulted and your gun choice is not based on practical use.
>3. You have never been assaulted and your gun choice is not based on practical use.
It has to be this one.
>3. You have never been assaulted and your gun choice is not based on practical use.
Is your point that you should carry a shotgun for self defense?
You don't carry a gun because you want to be assaulted, you carry one because you don't want to be assaulted. Not getting assaulted it the end goal here.
>Is your point that you should carry a shotgun for self defense?
No, my point is that if you want good result, you should have hardware that fits the task and offers as little downsides as possible.
For example, no one said that you can't shoot an Indian from one mile with a Sharps gun with Iron or aperture sights, but today there are guns better suited for the task.
>don't carry a gun because you want to be assaulted, you carry one because you don't want to be assaulte
If I know that you carry, I would just assault you in the way you don't see me coming. And maybe take the gun with me.
And if I don't, you can surprise me with a sudden double tap as I try to mug you as the harmless prey you seem to be
>I'd just teleport behind you
You wouldn't do shit. The moment you see my gun is the moment you shit your breeches and do a 180
Your fear of death will beat any greed you have.
Are you retarded? (The answer is yes, yes (you) are retarded).
People carries revolvers in their coats/shirts because most gunfights happened in a spontaneous manner. You'd be fucking dead trying to take out your rifle/shotgun when someone fires from their coat.
unless you dress up full three amigos mariachi style you'll just look like a guy with a criminal record.
If you're looking for a compact .44/.45. Although Charter Arms makes some small double action five shooters and S&W has the model 69 chambered in .44 magnum. There are also some really tiny .22s like the Ruger Bearcat and NAA revolvers.
Get really good at fast draw and gun spinning and your dick will swing so heavily it won't matter what people think is practical or relevant
How the fuck do you quickdraw? I just plain can't do it.
practice, proper holsters.
Draw, but fast like
>he doesn't spend an embarrassing amount of time practicing his western gunfighter Quickdraw in front of the mirror
There are relevant to carry revolvers, SAA isn't one. That being said, its better than not carrying anything and if it makes you happy, just go for it.
They're based. I can't shoot them fpr shit though. Not really used to the grip.
She's the prettiest piece I ever did see.
I carry a 357 single action when Im out doing chores on the property. Although, when I am going to be working in the barn, I will carry a 22 revolver with 22 quiet shorts to shoot mice. The larp is fun.
Now when I am out and about, I will wear a normal semi auto pistol like a normal person. Im not trying to fan the hammer on some cowpokes robbing my stagecoach. The single action is just fine at home though.
I really like open tops. I am a big fan of my taylors richard mason.
What caliber is yours? Is it taylors or cimarron?
Taylor's (Uberti) 1871 .38spl conversion. I love this gun so much. The open top aesthetic has always appealed to me ever since the Ennio Morricone westerns
I used to have a cimarron open top in 45 colt, but I sold it because I am an idiot. It was the only gun I had in 45 colt. Everything of mine is now 357(38) or 22.
Its a good gun pardner. Treat it well.
The shotgun has been for shooting things for fun. I like ripping both barrels into things. The rifle almost saw some action earlier. Goddamn whistle pig digging holes again. I dont normally carry it around because its a little big and heavy for a yard gun (24 inch octagonal barrel), besides, I have a henry 22 that I can beat up without regret.
The large knife is a cold steel frontier bowie that I use to cut big stuff like a machete. 90 percent of the time I just use the old timer woodsman for general stuff. The belt was handmade by someone at a trade fair and the small holster was made by myself. The black powder holster was made by someone else at the trade fair.
Like I said, larping is a lot of fun.
incredibly based. do you take the shotgun or rifle around too? can we get some details on that knife and belt rig
I love that
Here’s my New Model Army
I fucking hate people like you so goddamn much. You carry for attention or because you think it makes you cool. You don't have the maturity or mental capacity to realize that a gun you carry has 1 singular purpose, saving someone's life from an imminent threat of death.
Buy a saa, shoot it in CAS and fuck around at the range. Hunt with it for all I care. But your carry gun should purely be viewed as a tool.
(You) should be viewed purely as a tool
What a joyless fag you are. Carry whatever you want Anon. You’re never going to use it in self defense and, if you did, the SAA would probably do the trick anyway.
>You’re never going to use it in self defense
If you genuinely believe this, why the fuck do you even carry?
In case I have to use it for self defense.
Because the consequences of the extremely small probability being realized are serious.
And yet you want to handicap yourself by using a single action revolver? You acknowledge that a self defense scenario is serious, but treat it like a joke by larping as a cowboy.
Again, have fun with your cowboy gun, do what this guy does
Use it when it the consequence of your gun being shit doesn't matter at all. Stop trying to be a snowflake and carry a normal gun that will give you the best chance of survival in the extremely unlikely scenario you need to use it.
The overwhelming majority of self defense shootings that do happen involve five shots or less. A cap and ball revolver would be perfectly effective, not to mention hot .45 LC from a SAA. You’re not John Wick and neither is anyone else on this basket weaving forum.
>it's just as easy and effective to get off 5 rounds with a single action revolver as it is a semi auto pistol
>ammo capacity is literally all that matters 🙂
Are you even old enough to post here and carry a gun? Holy fuck
The fuck are you talking about? The point is that the self defense shootings which do happen, which we’ve agreed are extremely rare, involve shooting some urban youth at 10 feet in an alley once or twice and then calling the police. An antiquated, obsolete gun is just as capable of accomplishing this task, as is evidenced by the fact that people used these antiquated, obsolete guns for that exact purpose for decades.
>involve shooting some urban youth at 10 feet in an alley once or twice and then calling the police.
I hope you get capped by a moron while you fumble with your 200 year old technology.
Go watch literally any modern defensive shooting. Shit, go watch the one at the taco shop that happened like a month ago.
Put yourself in the guy who shot the moron dead's shoes and think
>would this have gone as well if I was larping as Wyatt Earp and tried what he did?
Hint: no. You would have gotten off 1, maybe 2 shots, and probably missed both of them while you tried to fan your hammer.
I’ve seen the taco shop video and many others, drawing at an opportune time seems to be a much more important factor than the weapon being used. If it’s good enough for Alec Baldwin, it’s good enough for every man, woman and child in this country.
You're going to end dead or in prison if you ever find yourself needing to use your gun defensively. All so you could pretend to be a cowboy with literally no benefit.
I carry a P365XL, before that a Glock 43 and before that a Gen 1 Shield. Im just not autistic enough to think im going to find myself in a situation where the performance difference between those guns and OP’s SAA will matter. That being the case, OP should carry his SAA if it makes him happy.
You shouldn't have an emotional connection to your carry gun. It should make you feel safe and prepared, not happy.
I don’t see why it can’t make you feel safe and also provide you with happiness.
What if you're happy to be safe and prepared?
i bet you never feel either of those things
>You shouldn't have an emotional connection to your carry
>it should make you feel these two emotions
Being safe and being prepared aren't emotions.
>It should make you feel safe and prepared, not happy
>involve shooting some urban youth at 10 feet in an alley once or twice and then calling the police
Yeah, because pulling out artillery size SAA, cocking the hammer and double tapping a nog is just as easy as doing the same with double action Makarov or subcompact Glock.
Artillery size? bro I'm going full 7.5 inch and if 6 shots doesn't do it, I'll draw my saber and charge the rapscallion on my horse.
I have carried them, innawoods.
I wouldn’t opt for them in other situations though.
Still love them though.
The most comfortable gun I have ever handled is the SAA, close second is the CZ85.
I carry a ruger blackhawk with big dick buffalo bore innawoods. Good for animal defense, not so much for urban animal defense.
Relevant? Not at all. Viable? Of course. Anyone who's shot a single action revolver knows they don't want to be on the receiving end. There are obviously better options but they still shoot bullets just the same.
Six shots can be more than enough to kill anything I guess
>PrepHole: this gun is lethal
AKSHUALLY throwing a rock is lethal. Nothing in the last several hundred thousand years of human evolution has made the rock less capable of cracking your unprotected skull open. Unga bunga is not a valid carry strategy regardless.
>Unga bunga is not a valid carry strategy regardless.
Cringe and sape pilled
No one is saying a SA revolver isn't lethal, just that it's a retarded carry weapon.
If you want to play cowboy, there are da/sa revolvers intended to be carried.
>What do you think of carrying a single action revolver in 2023?
It wasn't even relevant a hundred years ago.
Oh man, that's hot.
I have done it on various occasions, and when I was younger I even had to pull a blackpowder Remington on someone. They'll still put someone in the dirt and they aren't that much slower to shoot than any other pistol, at least for me. Of course, if you have to reload you're fucked, but that's just a general truth.
Carry an automatic if you can though, or at least a double action swing out or top break revolver.
I wonder if after Alec Baldwin retarded nogunz will develop an irrational fear of single action revolvers.
>You have to be a MADMAN to use one of these! THEY FIRE WITHOUT PULLING THE TRIGGER!
I don't think anyone actually believes the gun went off on its own.
Grabbers don't believe anything they say about guns, but it doesn't matter as long as it scares other people into voting against gun rights.
>you've heard of select fire, now get ready for compulsory fire
There's no such thing as compulsory, anon. Everything is a choice.
Booger hook, bang switch, etc.
They already banned SAA's in Massachusetts decades ago. Only single action revolvers you can buy here are Ruger's and percussion revolvers.
Why on earth are SAAs banned?
>Single Action Army
It's a solja's gun
It's stupid but based if you dress in full Western attire.
I have a Ruger Blackhawk 45 lc in my bedside table.
>NNNOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST BE A GOOD SHOT WITH 6 ROUNDS YOU HAVE TO MAG DUMP 12+! NGMI!
Revolvers encourage getting gud at shooting, are extremely reliable, and can readily handle hot loads whereas semi-autos vary
Plus, get a proper revolver with the right angled grip, and that will mean all the difference in a pinch when some jogger comes at you.
I never cared much about guns and in my shithole gun laws are draconian anyway, but recently I binged a bunch of spaghetti westerns and now I want a Big Iron so badly
The most common cowboy guns were your single shot Deringers or your pocket revolvers. Or as another anon said here, rifles and shotguns, since they were actually useful. Single action 45 is a sheriff's gun.
worked for Alec Baldwin
Why don't carry a pepperbox while you at it
seems very practical tbh, theres people carrying derringers and shit and thats fine
Better options around like a double ation revolver, autoloaders.
>it spits lead at lethal velocities
For an SAA you can get 357magnum versions
