Covering The Seams

How should I make it completely dark at the sides?
I dont think a double sided glue could help. Maybe some kind of long foam??

Most you could do to block out more light but still have it be retractable I think would be to glue strip magnets on the ceiling at the sides and bottom, then when the blind is out you could use magnets to hold the blind flat against the ceiling surface. Then just block off the gap at the top between the reel and the ceiling with something. You'd probably still have some light getting through here and there but it could cut down on it significantly if done right.

If you're looking to completely block ALL the light, you'll never acheive it with a surface mounted blind like that unless you make it permanent, such as closing off all the edges with opaque tape or something. At which point you may as well just get rid of the blind and cut a piece of plywood to cover the skylight opening.

oh man just get some velcrowe and stick it to the sides and BOOM you're done

I was thinking of that too, but then I realized it might become an issue when I rolled it back and it becomes too Thick to completely roll itself back up.
Plus idk if velcrowe would be strong enough to hold it up... maybe a long strip line?
But again i already see an issue where the glue (behind the velcrowe) could give in and eventually fall. Also you cant see it properly but theres squiggly lines on the brown beams which means space/air behind anything i mean to stick up there.

Magnets IS an idea, but then id have to make holes in the ceiling again

Placing U-shaped profiles, long and thin, on each side and run the curtain fabric through that. This can over time damage the fabric though.
Something brushy/fluffy placed against the roller section.

Have you tried conditioning yourself to become resistant to low levels of sunlight?

painted it like 2 years ago and i would need a special color for the wood.

My intention was to keep the sun rays from hitting my feet in the morning which wakes me up.

That's an idea - but now ive realized i just need to instal some clasps.
Well not really clasps i just dont know the english word for it, but something like pic related where I install them on the wood, roll down the curtain and then just closing the clasp to keep it in place
