What bayonet is this? How is it mounted?

          Anonymous

That appears to be a metric FAL bayonet. Its probably not properly mounted. Normally they fit onto the combo muzzle device like a rifle grenade.

It is in a way but you're lengthening your rifle by a lot, not that any of you know how to utilize building clearing tactics anyway.

    >but I'm just gonna HUNKER DOWN at the end of my hallway
Would still be better to peak around the edge of a doorway with a compact rifle or better yet a handgun.

Is there a way to mount bayonets to any rifle? Seems like a severe oversight that no one has made a practical universal bayonet mount. Most rifles don't come with the traditional lug for that rifle anymore, and there's no mlok or picatinny attachments to mount them, or even like a barrel clamping one. So stupid, I just want a damn bayo I can put on all my rifles.

I have used a machete successfully for home defense. It was the full intent to legally kill that put the fear of God in em. Let them go out of kindness.

Don't see how a bayonet would be any different, the bayonet drill instills violence of action and a mindset of lethal aggression.

Need to stop telling this story over and over again.

somebody once said on here that knives are more of a deterrent than guns because the subconscious recognizes that they are dangerous, ie people will try to tackle somebody with a gun but will never wrestle somebody with a knife.

never researched this or looked it up, is it true?

      sounds like bullshit

      Anonymous

There's probably something to it. Just about every bayonet charge that happened in WW2 broke the target's morale and caused them to flee.

        Anonymous

I'd imagine that probably had more to do with in WW2 if someone was doing a bayonet charge, it was probably because the enemy was just about finished off.

As for the subconscious knife dangerous stuff, sounds like an old wife's tale.

      Anonymous

That's just cuz when you wrestle someone with a knife there's a 174% chance you'll get stabbed or slashed somehow. If you wrestle someone with a gun (especially a long gun) the barrel will be easily deterred because it functions as leverage and the chances of you getting shot are way lower. Also if you charge while the shooter is reloading, the shooter is basically defenseless.

That being said no matter which one of the two it would take a huge amount of courage and giant balls to take on an armed assailant unarmed, but I can see why people would be even more deterred from taking on a person with a blade than with a gun.

Also in movies people with guns get wrestled all the time, you never see it happening with knife or sword wielders. Maybe the people in the study just think they are main characters.

The home invader will have the element of surprise, it is best not to fumble around in the dark with a rifle and a bayonet sticking out.

Bayonets were used when it was faster to lunge at an enemy than reload, total war budgeting issues meant not every soldier received a sidearm and partly the psychological value of having something between you and the enemy. It is now 2024, you have the option of a reliable handgun or 2.

      >Bayonets were used when it was faster to lunge at an enemy than reload, total war budgeting issues meant not every soldier received a sidearm and partly the psychological value of having something between you and the enemy
These are definitely some of the reasons, and a major additional reason was repelling cavalry charges also useful for myriad other things, like escorting prisoners, controling rioting crowds, and clearing minefields

      Anonymous

Bayonets were there to stop cavalry charges, which is why pike and shot formations fell out of fashion at the same time it became common to have socket bayonets that people could fire their musket with whilst the bayonet was equipped. Stabbing people was always a secondary use for bayonets which is why bayonets fell out of fashion when soldiers stopped worrying about getting run down by horses not when it stopped being fun to stab people.

adds length and alternatively you can just muzzle thump them and shoot them. Or just shoot them to begin with. Even if you have cucked 10 round mags you'll almost certainly have more than enough ammo for a HD situation.

I want a SCR but have a government profile barrell put on so I can mount a bayonet and I think it would be a funner to use with a bayonet being closer to classic rifles and pole arm then a standard ar-15 with a pistol grip.
Anyone else ever do this or think of it?

Too long. Houses have lots of tight corners. If you're a poorgay and you're already rocking a full-length rifle or a shotgun, the thing's dangerously long for CQB already. Adding more inches to an already unweildy device is likely to leave you fumbling long enough for Jamal to turn you into swiss cheese and make off with your TV.

Name one bullpup that has a bayonet lug. This just brings up how stupid bayonet mounting systems are, they're specifical to one gun rather than being universal so no manufacturer even bothers putting them on anymore.

          Anonymous

And this is bullshit, we have to save bayonets. Someone has to come up with a viable universal knife mounting system.

AUGs support bayonet, so does the FAMAS and L-85. I think the Chinese QBZ-97 or whatever also mounts bayonets. With that said, bullpups are for women. Remember, AUG stands for "Actually for underaged girls"
