NBC threats seem less prevalent these days anyway.

but they are all so cramped inside

so? you might gain a little headroom if you take the top off but your survivability decreases and you don't even have protection from the elements

you could still span a canvas over top but therefor hopefully not get shrekd by any pressure build up if you do get hit.
its not about spaciousness but if opening up would increase survivability in that aspect.

a mine or rpg is still going to turn you into salsa. any potential improvement in survivability from those is greatly offset by the new threats coming from drones grenades and artillery

i mean if you get directly hit by artillery you are salsa either way.
but yeah the new drone trend is the crux

                >i mean if you get directly hit by artillery you are salsa either way.
yeah, but now airbursts and near misses are fatal because you have no fricking roof

Then why soldiers riding on all apc on the top?
      >muh open box
This rolling can doens’t protect you from any artillery shells anyway

Because roof armour doesn't make any difference in a Russian shitbox and it's too cramped and hard to get out of

Turns out sissy HATO "ergonomics" does have tactical relevance

It's a good thing drones are going out of style, now is the time to put sun rooves on our IFVs.

Yes; you kill your men faster as the NLAW fragments now strike more passengers / crew since the top is wide open

    >openening armored vehicles
So what happens if a mortar shell with ETD fuze burst over the open top vehicle?

    How about a sun roof?

Besides shaped charge jet soldiers siting in the open top vehicle would be hit blast wave from explosives of the AT weapons itself.

Though for desert countries for low tech open top or roof mounted with the big gap from walls can be preferable for better ventilation. No air conditioner closed vehicles can become unbearably hot inside.

Not every armored vehicle is going to ram itself face first into a line of guys armed with javelins. Not every army is going to be incapable of stopping dickass drones. Not every military-industrial complex is incapable of developing comfortable armored vehicles while still having a proper fricking roof.

I'm confused, is this an argument against armour of any kind? An argument for modernisation of old equipment? Surely not an arguement for open topped vehicles given what we have seen of drone footage.
