Ruger has some winners like their revolvers and 22 target pistols. I wouldn't buy their center-fire pistols just because there's so many better options. S&W, on the other hand, has completely gone downhill and their quality control is worse than 90s Taurus. Damn shame.
I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that S&W has worse QC issues than any other major manufacturer.
All the 2.0 M&Ps are garbage, hence why they sell them for like $300, they cha get out a bunch of parts, threw in a lot of Indian MIMed shit.

I've had 4 of their revolvers and every single one had major issues, barrels not even screwed on straight, forcing cones so rough you couldn't use cast bullets at all, sights that fricking fell off, total fricking garbage. I've owned over 70 firearms and I've had more issues with S&W than all other manufacturers combined. I've never had an M&P but lots of ransom rest data I've seen shows that they are literally half as accurate as Glock pistols. I will never ever buy another product from them.

It's a bit smaller in every way, and fits in between the non-Plus Shield and the Compact in size and capacity.

Again, none of this has anything to do with it being bad or unreliable. It's all your own opinion.
Shield Plus isn't single stack. That said, barrel porting on a carry gun is dumb.

I was mostly jesting; Ruger generally makes fine guns (except the LCP frick that), but I generally feel like they're always a step behind competitors. The Max-9, for example, is practically just a Shield Plus but with -1 capacity and slightly worse ergonomics.
Also OP if you want the renegade choice, go with the Kel-Tec P15. It just came out and is pure sex (jury's out on if it's actually good though).
I got a sig p365XL, I like it. Shoots much better than the Ruger LC9S I was carrying before, fits the hand better, higher capacity. And I have yet to drop it and shoot myself.
