Cold hands as a security guard

I work as a night security guard out in Chicago where it’s getting down to like 30-40 degrees rn, and my basic Amazon gloves aren’t really cutting it anymore, any recommendations for good quality gloves to stay warm but not needing to be tied up 10 times over, willing to splurge a bit and really anything under 80$ is reasonable. For reference I basically wear gloves the entire night (8-12 hour shifts) and for the first half i’m semi frequently removing them to make reports to my manager.

i am not going to recommend you a specific glove, but i am going to recommend you get some inner liners, they are primarily sold for skiing, but the instantly boost your warmth 10x

reusable handwarmers are also very cheap nowadays

also, might sound weird, but keeping your neck warm will do more to keep you hands and feet warm then most things, most of your blood is going to your brain, and that blood pumps through your neck, simply a buff or a scarf of some kind works wonders

For <$80 you should be able to buy two separate items that keep you comfy and allow the reporting. Shop online, brand doesn't really matter.

Buy a pair of snug wool gloves. Buy an extra large windproof/water proof thin mittens. The mittens will keep out the wind and trap air. When yku remove the mittens the gloves will retain heat as you submit reports.

Get conforming gloves and outer mittens. Will work for you, fellow Chicago anon.

Echoing what others have said get a cheapish two layer system going and that will be enough. Thin liner (wool or fleece) for your active stuff then an oversized mitt to keep you warm (kinco or some kind of wool/leather chopper). And using hand warmers is pretty cheap and not at all cheating.

On other option depending on how active your security guarding is, check out some hand muffs. They make some pretty good options for hunting with some even having windows so you can hold a book with cozy hands. Might look a little dorky but they are really nice for cold weather.

I got liner gloves and mechanix. Total $20. Both are touch sensitive so I don't have to remove them when using screens.
But when you are standing still all night and can't put your hands in your pockets you need mittens below freezing. Just get some black wool mittens.

This is the way to go.
Either a rechargable hand warmer or the disposable kind. Put them in your jacket pockets.

Assuming that being able to use your hands is critical, id do a medium weight glove of your choice that lets you do whatever you have to and one of those hunting-style handmuffs. To really keep your hands warm when not moving or working you need a good hunk of insulation, much more than would allow for any articulation. you could get a big set of mittens but you're taking them off to do anything. If that's signing a some papers that's fine, if you're using a radio or need to use a gun or other tool that's gonna be a pain.

The truth of the issue is, if your hands are getting cold, your jacket is too thin.

This. Don't focus on your hands OP, focus on your core.

Wear a wool long underwear set. Your body restricts circulation when your core temperature drops to protect the organs. That's why you get cold hands and feet.

In this case, it is my recommendation to get mittens.

Cold hands most likely means cold feet. Increasing thickness of soles and wearing a good warm hat will fix cold hands even without gloves.
