DD M4A1 soccom upper is the generally recommended baseline, which would pair nicely with a MARS lower
Geissele URGI or super duty 14.5 (upper or complete rifles) are some of the best complete packages you can get for the price.
LMT R20 reference rifle would be pretty sweet if you have the cash.
Building out a 416 is an option but it's tricky getting a good barrel in the states.
Otherwise you could clone the L403A1, essentially a KAC KS-1

Is it a bad idea to shoot 22lr out of a 556 can? I only heard that it can get dirty so it should be self servicable but nothing about baffle strikes or other actual problems
every shot of 22 makes it slightly louder and less effective as it fills with crap. and you can get cratering the next time you fire it with centerfire as all the crap blows free it can cause damage.
most 556 cans are also shit for 22 because of the insane first round pop. i only recommend it for a few rounds like less than 20 (ever).
I shoot .22 through my RC2. CMMG conversion. It's my only can and SF doesn't make a .22 can that isn't direct thread. Go to NAPA and have them mix up custom paint rattle cans for you. You can basically pick any automotive color that exists and they'll just bring it up with the OEM paint code. I got one made up for an older car and it was only about $20.

To be fair I have only used the two so my opinion isn't worth much but the krylon is very noticeably flatter and I'm fine with the colors I got except the tan that one is way lighter than I wanted. It's consumable I don't really care how long it lasts.

Nobody does. They're police surplus made in the US the company is owned by safariland and they make good stuff. It's not a modern cut or lightweight but this stuff isn't getting cheaper. Make sure to size yourself first so you don't buy one that is too small.
Completely tanodized guns like the SPEAR or Geissele Super Duty are cringe. That kind of finish shines best (pun intended) as an accessory or when used in tasteful moderation. That's why Block II components look so at home on a black base rifle.

Then you are worried about taking a rifle round. In that case you want the side plates, and you want them pushed forward to left and ride edges of your front plate so that they sit obliquely. I would try to avoid situations where this is needed.

The only reason I ever anticipate really needing or having the time to don body armor is if things go seriously breasts up. I don't think i'm going to have a chance to throw on a carrier if some porch monkey breaks in in the middle of the night, and even in a fentanyl floyd summer of love situation I am probably not going to want to attract the kind of attention that a plate carrier brings while moving around in my everyday life. So yes, if I ever feel the need to don armor I expect explosive devices to be a significant threat. I don't know if it would be conventional arty/mortars/grenades or homemade/field expedient devices, but I expect one or both.

Eh, depends. Full disclosure I don't even have an LPVO but I am weighing the options on getting one or not and we are probably thinking through some of the same issues.
With a SFP you definitely can get a better reticle for 1x but you aren't getting anything useful most of the time for those longer ranges.
Most of the guys who give their experience with LPVOs are doing so with known distance full size steel targets.
Something to keep in mind is why you're getting an LPVO in the first place.
Obviously you want a good 1x or else you'd just go the next step up and get like a 2-10 or something thereabouts and get a better objective lens, and other features that make a scope better.
So you need a good 1x but you also want a good reticle otherwise just get a red dot magnifier.
Something like the ACSS Griffin Mil reticle on the PLXC seems to do a good job of both having a useable 1x without illumination, and having a good detailed reticle at full power.
You get wind holds, mils, multiple ways of ranging, leads, pretty much everything you could ask for.
The trade off is that you get a busy reticle.
If you don't want all that stuff then you probably don't even want an LPVO and should just stick to a dot magnifier which for 200m and in shooting isn't going to really need more than point and shoot center mass anyway.

The bigpeqs potted FMA peq I bought? Super powerful but I wouldn't put my life on it. Plus the illuminator wouldn't zero due to nonexistent elevation change and the battery compartment became loose after 2k rounds.

All I have is laser. Picrel next to peq2 laser. Basically the closest I could get my illuminator would be the laser hitting the top right edge of the illuminator beam. You can focus the illumator quite a bit, and it is a very powerful beam. Sucks it can't coalign perfectly with the laser because the battery compartment fix is easy. But hey for 400 bucks what do you expect.

Its really a factor of reticle design and optical choices.
Most SFPs have god awful reticles like the razor 1-6. FFPs can get away with additional complexity but the only ones you really see cheating it are like the eotech vudu 1-6/1-8 offerings where the actual transition between 1 and the top end changes the reticle frm an eotech reticle to a crosshair/circle shit. Everyone who isnt doing something similar is being a lazybones.

I would imagine the extra dots just get in the way as well. One thing I actually like about the T2 over the EXPS3, besides weight, is that there's just less going on between a 2moa dot vs the eotech circle w/ dot.
If you need a BDC maybe a red dot isn't the right tool for the job anyway but I'm sure some guys like it and think it's useful, idk, I'm not exactly an expert.

I have an exps3-0 and an aimpoint t2. I get the tradeoffs but I also understand what they do well which is 100y and in shooting.
I almost exclusively train at a 50y action bay whether it's day or night. I also live in urban sprawl.
I have a 2-12 if I wanted something for longer distance.
A 1-6 SFP doesn't make a lot of sense for my AO. I think they are more designed for competitive shooters anyway who have known distance , full size targets meaning they don't need ranging, they don't need leads, and evidently they don't need mils for wind.
If I was going to get an LPVO for a LARP rifle I'd probably want to at least get a really good reticle since I am giving up durability, weight, and 1x performance so it would be FFP and probably either the PLXC1-8 or the ATACR 1-8.
They would also get a top dot regardless because passive aiming.

No, I completely get it. I don't particularly like the red dot magnifier set up but it is good at being a close range focused optic that with the addition of a magnifier can help you out somewhat. It's far from perfect and yeah 3x isn't doing a whole lot either but that 1x is really good. How good it is and how much you're willing to give up on other stuff is up to you.

Don't pay $3k for your first rifle or even your 2nd. You need to learn what you like. You can do that with a $1500 rifle.
DD M4A1 soccom upper is the generally recommended baseline, which would pair nicely with a MARS lower
Geissele URGI or super duty 14.5 (upper or complete rifles) are some of the best complete packages you can get for the price.
LMT R20 reference rifle would be pretty sweet if you have the cash.
Building out a 416 is an option but it's tricky getting a good barrel in the states.
Otherwise you could clone the L403A1, essentially a KAC KS-1
None of these 3000 dollar rifles do anything at all different from a Aero lower and a BCM upper, and they're only kinda better than a Ruger or PSA.
If you spend more than 7-800 dollars on your upper you got scammed and you'll be gunned down since you spent all of your money on a rollmark and not ammo to train with.

Go to NAPA and have them mix up custom paint rattle cans for you. You can basically pick any automotive color that exists and they'll just bring it up with the OEM paint code. I got one made up for an older car and it was only about $20.

You can get FS color enamel sprays for about half that. I wouldn't trust my local NAPA, and I doubt that they do that anyway.

To be fair I have only used the two so my opinion isn't worth much but the krylon is very noticeably flatter and I'm fine with the colors I got except the tan that one is way lighter than I wanted. It's consumable I don't really care how long it lasts.
It takes a week to cure and you aren't supposed to touch it for 24 hours but its free if you say it clogged
I like krylon the actual camo cans get a very flat texture it's much flatter than rustoleum.
Plasti Dip is the real shooter's choice, it'll resist high heat and you can just peel it off when you wanna paint it something else.

The only reason I ever anticipate really needing or having the time to don body armor is if things go seriously breasts up. I don't think i'm going to have a chance to throw on a carrier if some porch monkey breaks in in the middle of the night, and even in a fentanyl floyd summer of love situation I am probably not going to want to attract the kind of attention that a plate carrier brings while moving around in my everyday life. So yes, if I ever feel the need to don armor I expect explosive devices to be a significant threat. I don't know if it would be conventional arty/mortars/grenades or homemade/field expedient devices, but I expect one or both.

Eh, depends. Full disclosure I don't even have an LPVO but I am weighing the options on getting one or not and we are probably thinking through some of the same issues.
With a SFP you definitely can get a better reticle for 1x but you aren't getting anything useful most of the time for those longer ranges.
Most of the guys who give their experience with LPVOs are doing so with known distance full size steel targets.
Something to keep in mind is why you're getting an LPVO in the first place.
Obviously you want a good 1x or else you'd just go the next step up and get like a 2-10 or something thereabouts and get a better objective lens, and other features that make a scope better.
So you need a good 1x but you also want a good reticle otherwise just get a red dot magnifier.
Something like the ACSS Griffin Mil reticle on the PLXC seems to do a good job of both having a useable 1x without illumination, and having a good detailed reticle at full power.
You get wind holds, mils, multiple ways of ranging, leads, pretty much everything you could ask for.
The trade off is that you get a busy reticle.
If you don't want all that stuff then you probably don't even want an LPVO and should just stick to a dot magnifier which for 200m and in shooting isn't going to really need more than point and shoot center mass anyway.

All I have is laser. Picrel next to peq2 laser. Basically the closest I could get my illuminator would be the laser hitting the top right edge of the illuminator beam. You can focus the illumator quite a bit, and it is a very powerful beam. Sucks it can't coalign perfectly with the laser because the battery compartment fix is easy. But hey for 400 bucks what do you expect.
The laser does and still holds zero. But the illuminator left much to be desired. I'd recommend a PEQ2 over one any day. I did buy an IS EG Ngal for shits and giggles

Most SFPs have god awful reticles like the razor 1-6. FFPs can get away with additional complexity but the only ones you really see cheating it are like the eotech vudu 1-6/1-8 offerings where the actual transition between 1 and the top end changes the reticle frm an eotech reticle to a crosshair/circle shit. Everyone who isnt doing something similar is being a lazybones.
I think there is something to be said for an intuitive BDC reticle for a general purpose rifle, especially since most people do not train much.

I have an exps3-0 and an aimpoint t2. I get the tradeoffs but I also understand what they do well which is 100y and in shooting.
I almost exclusively train at a 50y action bay whether it's day or night. I also live in urban sprawl.
I have a 2-12 if I wanted something for longer distance.
A 1-6 SFP doesn't make a lot of sense for my AO. I think they are more designed for competitive shooters anyway who have known distance , full size targets meaning they don't need ranging, they don't need leads, and evidently they don't need mils for wind.
If I was going to get an LPVO for a LARP rifle I'd probably want to at least get a really good reticle since I am giving up durability, weight, and 1x performance so it would be FFP and probably either the PLXC1-8 or the ATACR 1-8.
They would also get a top dot regardless because passive aiming.

No, I completely get it. I don't particularly like the red dot magnifier set up but it is good at being a close range focused optic that with the addition of a magnifier can help you out somewhat. It's far from perfect and yeah 3x isn't doing a whole lot either but that 1x is really good. How good it is and how much you're willing to give up on other stuff is up to you.
