Did you push the soil away via glacial creep across the landscape revealing the clay you use for your cob house yourself? No? Please just go poser.

if you have stone around you build with stone
if you have wood around you build with wood
if you have mud around you build with mud

What I do not like is how organic cob always looks, I have very little experience with it, so I do not know if there is a reason aside from it being easer to do curves by hand than straight lines

Im sure you could frame it

I've seen people using simple frames to do arches for doors and windows. In that same house they tested completely surrounding the cob with a frame. My guess is that they simply do not want to build a huge frame. There is also the idea that this subculture is supposed to go against straight lines

Really just climate and available material. Also lazyness or the goal of profit, you can't mass build mud houses quickly and I guess the upkeep is time intensive, too.

Nah, you can build the usual blocks with mud just fine. Pic related. But most people seem to like building organic forms just because it's relatively easy to do with these materials.

    >there's a reason people in civilized countries built houses with brick and stone
the reason that happens is because in highly economically developed countries, labor is expensive but intensively manufactured materials are cheap.
The opposite is true in less developed countries.

This is why you can find million dollar houses in California with vinyl siding and vinyl floors but on the other hand find $40K houses in Mexico with custom built tiled bathrooms, hand carved solid wood doors, and a pool.

I happen to like the house minus the exterior colors. It should be painted one colour and not like a cartoon rendition of a tumor.

They're well insulated and look interesting, even pretty sometimes. I helped build something like picrel and it was honestly a lot of fun. Women love them too, at least on a surface level. If you have the space, resources, artistry, or need it's probably worth it. Just a niche bit of fun, but I would probably never try to live in something like this. And projects like this are horrific.

Modern men take pride on being good cattle

thats how you make bricks too

Bricks need very pure clay, be cooked, formed into bricks and laid. Cob has more breathing room for the type of dirt you can use, and only needs to be mixed and left to dry directly in the shape and place you need

Cob works for arid climate, in Europe it usually is combination of stone foundation + a bit of stone wall with cob bricks on top with good roof that would protect the cob walls. Humidity was the reason people started prefer bricks over cob.

        If you maintain the waterproofing

I might have explained it better - you need to protect it from capillary? water (not sure about the expression - water raising from ground into walls) and from direct rain. It loses its integrity and strength fairly quickly than.

Btw: structure strength was another reason people stopped using cob, brick building is able to withstand much more stress.

Reddit spacing: frick off, I'd like to separate different parts of text, that has nothing to do with it. Frick your incomprehensible walls of text...

    Rammed earth buildings?

There are more interesting building materials that allow for less "blobby" designs.

Hempcrete and Rammed Earth are two good ones. Properly layered Rammed earth is beautiful.
