You can become the owner of a black powder cannon if you so choose.

You don't even have to register it. If you had the funds you could mount several of them inside of a semi truck. This would allow you to engage in roadway broadside against key hard targets.

I like the way you think anon. I’ve thought about volley fire 12 gauge before too, considering it’s so easy to make barrels for it

Someone is making a 6 barrel should fired 12 Guage. It looks like agony to shoot. But you could mount it as a makeshift heavy defensive weapon. Maybe put it on a wire operated turret on an uparmored 4x4. Now you have a pseudo IFV for urban engagements.

This as well as trebuchets with pipe bombs. Obviously doesn't need to be as large as medieval ones. One that could fit in a truck bed could probably lob a few pound pipe bomb a couple hundred yards.

        Anonymous

What about canisters of pipe bombs lobbed out of full sized trebuchettes as a form of mortar?

          Anonymous

Now I'm creaming my pants at the thought of some post-SHTF community buidling those and raiders shitting themselves as a cluster of pipe bombs is hurdled into the air from behind what used to be a suburban fence, spreading out like shot, before air bursting 20 - 30 yards in the air above their heads.

God, what a vision of war that would be.
            >the wood creaked under the strain of the counter weight
            >its payload of clustered pipe bombs was prepared
            >made of finely machine steel pipes from the before times, filled with scrap metal, slag from the forges, and black powder manufactured in the neighborbood
            >with little fanfair the multi-fuse was lit
            >with a whooshing sound accompanied the array of pipe bombs as they whirled into the air
            >the raiders were rushing across the cleared field where homes once stood in the surrounding neighborhoods.
            >blood thundering in their ears as their excitement at easy pray propelled them unwittingly into the killing ground
            >from behind a wooden privacy fence meant to keep the annoying neighbors out of sight, the wooden arm of the trebuchet rocketed upwards
            >the payload flew and tore itself apart as it neared its carefully pre-measured and tested target area
            >a hundred tiny gray glinting canisters of death with glittering fuses suddenly burst into a deafening roar
            >the cacophony of death erupted into plumes of smoke and flying metal
            >thirty raiders were shredded and killed outright by the air bursting fragmentation
            >another 20 were severely wounded
            >and with that the second battle of [neighborhood] was won before it even started.

      another legal loophole:

rifles with a sporting purpose can be in a caliber larger than .50, and don't require most of the ATF regulations.

      common stipulations:
      >non-standard ammunition are accepted more readily
      >bolt actions/manual actions are more readily accepted.
      >"traditional style" weapons are more readily accepted.
      >strait walled ammo types are more readily accepted.

I think a few common anti-material rifles with auto loading were accepted because they were used to hunt moose. but they were like a slightly over sized .50 cal something like .62.

Somebody makes a 20mm necked down to .50bmg rifle and accompanying ammo. Should penetrate even better than either by a large margin.

Your only real option is setting up a faux LMG build or "automatic" rifle, kinda thought about doing one for shits and giggles but it'd be pretty crappy at it's intended role.
    Ex
    >Bipod
    >Drum mags
    >Prism optic or red dot
    >Longish barrel
    >Gat crank, meme trigger, or pair of balls and some basic hand tools
You'd be limited by the relative lack of belt fed options on the market, although there technically are some, that and no barrel changes limits you from truly replacing a GPMG/MMG.

      Anonymous

      >no barrel change
get an AUG and 5x 24" my barrel's, split the barrels and lots of ammo between a gunner and an assistant gunner, swap barrels every 60 rounds or so, rotate them so that you are always using the coolest barrel.
It wouldn't work forever but you could sustain a pretty good rof for a while
Alternative is set up a jank water-cooling system and have assistant gunner carry a bunch of water

I’ve never used them but you could get a semiauto M240 from FN and use that with a trigger crank

Probably easiest is buying some old SAW style civi rifles, closed bolt RPD, BAR, FG42 if you can source mags and ammo I guess since they're basically already ready to go for their original purposes. Otherwise what may or may not be more or less accessible is making your own DIY project off of an AR or AK and aftermarket parts, probably setting you back a few grand all the same. Extra Thicc barrel, bipod, lot of mags and ammo, comfortable furniture. Big advantage of building your own is you could do something stupid like getting a .50 Beo upper for an AR if you can find the rounds.

has anyone ever thought about a 12 gauge volley gun? Pointing the barrels at a 45 angle, having a bunch of cheap single shots attached together with a string around the trigger, loading slugs or buckshot(not sure which would be better) and firing it like a shitty mortar?

      Anonymous

Yes, but slugs and buckshot are very poor for that purpose because of their shape, they don't preserve penetrating ability like rifle rounds at significant range.
At best a harassment weapon, which isn't useless but not ideal.

Turns out every model of the Tippmann 9mm Gatling is legal in all 50 states, with the only concern being magazine capacity.

    >almost every type of Gatling gun.
    >coffee grinder guns.
    >muzzle loading cannons
    >certain breach loading BP cannons, the only one I know for certain is the hotchkiss revolving cannon.

if someone has more information what I do know is that there is a cut off date of about 1886 and if the patent and production model was out before then, than you are able to reproduce and build it without a tax stamp.

    stipulations:
    >must use Black powder.
    >must use a single solid projectile.
    >can use "starburst."
    >can use canister shot.
    >can use synth BP substitute
    >can use modern manufacturing methods.
    >some designs can use modern ammo for other legal reasons unrelated to the 1886 cut off, usually a Gatling gun.

    fact check please.
