That wouldn't even work, though. The world descending into chaos would just mean more reason to clean house here. The blue/establishment/feds would be the ones to benefit more from international aid, but that would be harder to get if those foreign powers were preoccupied with WWIII.
Sending the standing military overseas would make a civil war at home all the faster. A draft would trigger a civil war immediately. Even non-military aid for a foreign conflict would hurt stability. The aid to Ukraine is pissing a lot of people off already.
It's not like there can even be some unifying event like Pearl Harbor that gets the whole country on board. We're WAY too divided. Half the country hates the country itself. There's no conceivable major event that could suddenly unify us. All that could happen is the playing field gets shaken up, which would only make it easier for someone to make the first move.

It was possible that a few battles going the other way could have made a critical difference (early battles that could have changed the course of the war, not later battles that are considered decisive in retrospect). As could have foreign intervention on either side. Ultimately, the North had more industry, and the fighting didn't happen on their ground as much, so they had more and more of the upper hand as time went on. For that reason, their victory seems kind of inevitable in retrospect. But even at the end, the South had more will to fight. If they could have held out a while longer, the North would have gotten tired of the war and ended it, even if they still had the advantage.

there might be two initial factions in a civil war, but America is just way too big if there were an actual failure of infrastructure across the country. we're talking multiple groups in every state moving to secure things like gasoline, coal plants, and railroads.
