My 11.5" is my favorite AR, but I'd only take that into a war scenario with a suppressor. If no suppressor, I'd go 14.5". I use EOTechs with magnifiers on most of my stuff, but I think an ACOG with a piggybacked red dot on a 14.5" is still the best all-around setup for open conflict.
