This only makes sense if you’re a native american but you sound black or like someone larping as being black. Still, whites should actually strongly agree with this argument because it implies that Europe is our permanent, real homeland, and that immigration doesn’t make one native

They're tryibg to avoid making it about Left Vs Right. do you have any idea the kind of backlash A24 would get if they made it about current political/social divides? A24 already said they're going to move away from Althouse films because they need to start making more money, so clearly they're not about to jump feet first into the middle of the left vs right with something as insane as a movie about one side or the other being bad guys in a civil war. it's going to be pure fantasy.

I think it's still pretty obvious who the "bad" guys are going to be based just on the map, let alone the trailer. As far as the states you'd expect to have seceded, it could simply be that the government has retaken them by the time the movie begins, not necessarily when the war does.

no place in the US is entirely food sufficient, the country is designed on the principle that goods and people can move freely where they're needed
the larp about withholding cornfields from urbanites only works if you ignore the fact that the city folk still control the water mains/ fertilizer and pesticide plants / transportation hubs.
there would be mass starvation on all sides

That only matters for the cities. In rural areas it would not be difficult to find truckers with their own semitrucks to come pick shit up and deliver it to rural towns without needing to go into any big city. Not to mention everyone has a car and if they really needed to could drive out to the farms to buy food directly.

Problem? Why do you think cities are required to truck food from a farm to a rural town? They don't have to use the interstate and they don't have to use some city-based distribution center. Smaller farms already deliver food into town or allow direct customer pick-up on-site, the bigger farms could just hire out independent truckers to transport their larger loads to local grocery stores.

California and Florida are two separate nations who are allied for the purposes of the war. The western forces and florida alliance are separate confederacies who are also loosely allied with California and Florida. In practice, it's a 5-way war of secession with four of the participants allied against the loyalists

Along what lines? With what infrastructure and what institutional support? What are sides, what are their goals, who determines those things?

There were literal terror bombing campaigns in this country in the 60s. Hundreds of people died, congress was bombed, a president was killed. But it didn't result in a civil war. Read about our actual, real Civil War that happened in real life. It took decades of animosity, regional anger, policy conflicts and a miniature civil war in Kansas and multiple terror raids like John Brown's before a real war could start. We have nothing like that. not even a shadow of those hostilities.

People arguing on the internet and breaking windows is not the runup to a civil war.

The problem is that all our supply chains are global. Nobody produces everything locally and due to how modern economics are all factories and producers operate without any stockpile. Once there's a hick up somewhere on the line it goes to shit like during covid. It'd take years to build the factories for domestic production.

Anon, the US is the largest wheat, dairy, beef, chicken, and potato producers in the Western Hemisphere, and that's with our stockpiling and exporting. If by some divine intervention international supply chains get stopped totally for a long-term period, no one in burgerland's gonna be starving anytime soon.

They ARE allies, even if Germany/Japan tier allies of convenience
They both want to secede and they both want Washington DC rekt so they're on the same side, presumably with the goal that they'd each get favorable independence terms after forcing the capital to acquiesce

This is ironically similar to the original American revolution where Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts etc. all agreed to fight Britain but were in no way certain they'd be one country themselves afterwards (and for a while functionally weren't)

This was a marketing decision. You can't play one side or the other in a movie like this, you'll divide the audience. It's a smart business decision, but in reality, yes, it's moronic

California has more registered Republicans than Texas.
Texas has more registered Democrats then New York.
Once you realize your narrow worldview of "but muh liberal Commiefornia; but muh conservative Texas Rangers" you realize that Cali and Texas have more in common than not.
Two largest states by population. 2nd and 3rd largest states by land. Texas produces 40% of the US oil. California produces 40% of the US vegetable by acreage (and up to 60% of rice).
Both border Mexico, both are major port states.
West Texas is defensible with the Rockies/Guadalupe Mtns, West Texas plains by said mtns are also where most of the oil wells are.
Florida Alliance's ability to cross the Texan desert unnoticed would be difficult especially since only Oklahoma has experience with that type of land. Arkansas, Louisiana, and the others aren't accustomed to desert. Florida Alliance might even be sympathetic toward Texas in this timeline-- hard to know.
What we do know is that the Cali/Texas partner is greatly disliked by the Loyalists.
Arizona/New Mexico/Nevada are the biggest blockades but also the hardest to defend-- it's just desert and unforgiving terrain between Cali and Texas.
Cali and Texas are filled with people accustomed to traveling, defending, and crossing desert and unforgiving terrain so AZ/NM/NV are kinda coin flips for good defense between Cali/Texas partners.
Plus AZ/NM/NV would rely more on electricity for their farms/water, and the lack of food/water/power would be an easily corruptible part of the blockade for Cali/Texas to manipulate.

Cali's weakest point is its large border with Nevada and the placement of the Western forces; most of those states are accustomed to mountainous terrain so pushing into California would be slow but not difficult. Cali would almost certainly rely on its advantageous ocean access.
I'd imagine the Western Forces would mostly coalesce around Lake Tahoe, Lake Mead, Lake Mojave.

          Anonymous

California has a lot of internal rivers and aquifers but it doesn't have a lot of direct lake access. California would mostly be able those lakes, or developing large desalination plants and trying to tech-jump that way.

But California has strong defensible position. Ocean border is massive if they develop a strong naval presence; the valleys are against said ocean. Holding the mountains would be easy, but defending the lakes which are mostly on Nevada's border would be fricking miserable.

Texas could easily lose a lot of its land quickly; in a way the Loyalists could take over swathes of Texan oil fields and natural gas. So Texas would rely heavily on its Western side and forging a pass to California-- which means again the Arizona/New Mexico/Nevada corridor would be a massive two-front heavy focus. I'd imagine almost 80% of the war would take place there outside shock-and-awe tactics in spiritual or political areas like DC, NYC, Atlanta, Miami, military bases, etc.,

Honestly the two biggest economies deciding "frick it we ball" together only seems moronic if you're some politics-is-sports smoothbrain. Newsom would be more likely to try it out-- somebody like Abbot is too moronic and crippled to understand a pact so it'd have to be somebody stronger and more pragmatic, but the souls of Californians and Texans are closer than they're apart-- and not in some horseshoe theory horseshit. I mean speaking as an American those two states have way more in common. This is kind of a fun thought experiment and way more nuanced than most discussions so far have given it credit.

It also makes a lot sense of it’s a war over water. Water is tight in the near future and California and Texas decide to seize control of the Colorado River basin and let the other states hang. That would also explain why Nevada and New Mexico don’t want to join them, they depend on the Federal Government to secure their water rights.

Correct...because Senate represents States, not people. States are equal to each other as States, so they each get two Senators. For representation of people, there is the House of Representatives. The number of representatives from each state is decided by population, and more populous states have more representatives. Both The House of Representatives and the Senate are then combined to form Congress. You would know this if you had taken 8th grade social studies.

I'm pretty sure most of the military people stationed there lean towards MAGA.

        Anonymous

        Not any more.

Clinton initiated the introduction of more females in support units, Bush ignored it, and Obama finished it by opening up the entire force to females. The Obama administration also started the purge of the actual fighting men and leaders that didn't support his leftist agenda.

The combat troops still tend to lean towards conservatism, and support the representative republic we have. However, there are like 7 support troops for every actual combat troop, and the units are filled with women and minorities that would absolutely support a neo- socialist / communist government.

The U.S. military is legitimately garbage, and little more than an extension of a liberal arts college. If told to attack American citizens and / or violate their rights, they would absolutely do it, as most of them hold allegience solely to their paychecks.

People are kinda moronic when talking about a civil war, there isn’t any significant divide in the American elite and intelligence agencies + media + wall street would immediately side with the federal government (which realistically would be occupied by democrats). Chuds would have to hope that Russia/China sends them weapons and/or attempt to enforce a no fly zone over the chudland breakaway government. All the “we’ll starve them out” is pretty much just bluster because anyone that would want to secede from the US has no institutional power and the military is completely zogged out

Kentucky is basically the most American part of America. It is like the essence of America. So while the rest of America may change into something that is no longer America, Kentucky almost by definition can only become more American. Does that make sense? It's like if you go to a Walmart in your town, it's a Walmart, but a Walmart in Kentucky will have people squirting shit out of their ass onto the floor leaving a trail, people jerking off in the aisles with dog toys, you name it, it's just a "dang gone good time." That's what it means. Sort of like how video related is typical Pennsyltucky behavior.

an upcoming civil war in America is nothing but fear porn, it’s not happening
there are no ideological differences in America worth fighting over other than abortion and the rights of the rainbow folk. just about every other “extreme” opinion is merely for aesthetic reasons, none of this political shit actually matters. if anything, we’re on our way to mutiny at mass scale over hyperinflation

      Anonymous

What is the difference between "mutiny at mass scale" and "civil war" in your mind
Because I've had similar thoughts, there really isn't anything that strong tearing America apart these days compared to the 1860s (or 1960s) but in an unprecedented way there's also really nothing holding America together, for example I can't mentally conceptualize the person who would "take a bullet for Biden" and that was a common enough sentiment for basically every previous POTUS

        Anonymous

a civil war would be multiple states engaging in warfare based on geographical lines, but ideological as well. in my head, a popular militia or political group would primarily operate out of one or two states while being aligned with similar militias in other states
“mass mutiny” would be more or less an Americanized version of the French revolution. riots, starvation, dragging bankers and financial wizards to the guillotines. both are unlikely, the second one was more possible until occupy Wall Street was co-opted

        racial divide

this is the most unlikely reason of all
blacks are obviously the center point of race politics, and they’re completely conquered to be political pawns
there are no more ethnic whites left to fight each other either, most of you can tell a British guy from an Italian
the Hispanics and Mexicans in particular have La Raza, but they want to be white anyway, so it doesn’t matter long term. in 50 years most of them will be “white”
none of the other major ethnic groups have enough numbers to be relevant

you people are so fricking delusional. The turner diaries set will never get that isn't worth fighting over when the people allowing massive foreign waves into the country, are complicit, both sides, a unitarian movement to allow population replacement doesn't spark a civil war.

It never has, it can spark a breakdown, ala Rome but none of Romes famous civil wars happened over that, just competing power struggles.

We have nothing like that right now and no issue to legitimately circle around. When you have to search the weeds to fight over issues like culture war shit, it isn't enough. You need a present threat that feels like you will die tomorrow and that already happened during covid and nobody did shit. Everyone masked up and marched on with their lives. You almost had a fight over forced vaccines until they got enough people to go along with it and then dropped the fight.

Slavery was visceral because it had real people as mascots for the suffering they felt. Walking build boards to see what to fight for and fight against. We have nothing like that. You might eventually get a fight over taxes and corruption if we keep weakening as a country but we're nowhere near that yet.

I'm not saying we won't fall but it won't be a civil war, shit will just break down and most people will keep chugging on because they need to live. They're people that want one but minorities rarely get what they want.

Personally I think that they would all be quaking in their boots hoping all the silos stay closed.
      >send troops
They don't have and can't raise enough troops to matter in a US Civil War. If only 10% of the US population participates that is 30+ million belligerent. I bet all the non-nuclear powers of the world start trying to court defense guarantees from China.

        Anonymous

I still think they'd send forces personally.
I can definitely imagine the United Kingdom sending a small force to at least assist the US or alleviate their logistics by sending support forces. Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Signals regiments with EW capability (who, if I am aware, do actually get stationed in the US quite often), intelligence corps, and maybe rangers and paratroopers too for more combat oriented support. Sure they wouldn't be a significant force, but if every member of NATO did send support (which they undoubtedly would, NATO troop deployments and rotations are specially designed to make sure every member gets dragged in) it would be a significant boost to the US war effort, not to mention all the sanctions against the western forces. Honestly, a US civil war would probably escalate into a world war as I can imagine China, Russia, Iran etc all supporting whichever states succeeded
