Their is no incentive to pass things to next generation especially after communism. I think that's true for the vast majority of South and East Asians.

I interact with a lot of them, as for some reason, they keep insisting on coming to the destitute English seaside town I live in for their holidays for some mystical reason and all of them come up to the top of my shoulder with a few of the ladies coming below even that.

I'm 6ft tall, so I'm guessing that makes them around between 5ft 3" - 5ft 5" on average. There just small enough that I only feel comfortable talking to them when sitting down or leaning against a wall, because otherwise I'm just looming over them al of the time.

      >cope with chinese characteristics (for a new era)

Nah, China's economy is unstable, sure, the COVID zero policy has shown that, but any possibility for a collapse would take a comparatively long downfall, they are nowhere near there and the CCP can and will take actions to mitigate that possibility.

What is more, the CCP aren't the soviets, unlike them they have been willing to adapt to a certain point.

Don't get me wrong, the average chinese is in for a rollercoaster of hardships and ever increasing economic and social pressure, but China being a weak society with a strong State means the CCP is nowhere near out of the picture at least for the next decade (to the Chang who is going to shill for China after this post, thanks for making my point and hope your social credit score increases a bit thanks to this conversation :D).

When it comes to these sort of things I prefer Economics Explained, they address China's (and the World's) problems in a less alarmist and more "what we could do about it" way:

WhatisAltHis also makes an interesting analysis on China from a west conservative perspective, he notices up to a certain point China is a foil to India ("Strong" State - Weak Society vs "Strong" Society - Weak State, for a given value of strength), he considers while current China's policies are a threat to the West and in the long term they are in for some serious problems they are not going to break apart any time soon and they are still in time reform themselves:

China will be like japan, which is economic stagnation. It will not collapse the country, but it will move the country away from being a powerhouse that will rival america. Japan was projected to rival america and also was projected to even surpass them. You know what happened? Their economic bubble popped and their economy suffered in its growth. Along with having a shrinking population. China will either be another japan or they will suffer a slow collapse. Chink shills are pathetic to use YouTube as their source of information and a gotcha.

isn't china having perennial droughts in their agricultural heartland while currently having a real estate bubble

          Anonymous

Yeah, and the farms they bought in Ukraine to serve as a back-up food source are currently mined and bombed to hell, so things are going to be really bad for the average Chink this year if current trends continue and they have another hot, dry year. The last two years have been very bad for them, with droughts down south and blizzards up north and there was concern about the Three Gorges Dam as they weren't sure if it could handle the lack of water behind it.

I'm actually starting to think that they kept the Zero Covid policy going for as long as they did was because it was a way to cover up a widespread famine, as people were going to starve to death anyway and that happening due to incompetence would have been less damaging than them simply not having food in the first place.

India has the benefit of the Monsoon, so even if the constant flooding and summer droughts effect wheat production, like it did in April:

            https://india.mongabay.com/2023/04/indias-wheat-crop-again-suffered-from-extreme-weather/

They don't have issues with more sturdier crops like onions, potatoes and the various beans and lentils that make up a large part of the staple diet.

Couple this with the fact that 64.61% of India's population is rural farmers, there's enough people growing all sorts of different crops in different places to keep a reliable flow of food coming in; whilst China's rural population is 37.49 % and cannot sustain the food requirement of the entire country by itself, meaning China is heavily reliant on imports of staple foods to avoid famines.

The biggest difference between to two in terms of food reliability is that China doesn't get the Monsoon and the vast majority of the water used has to be pumped from the north of the country to the south in order for them to have a reliable water source, so they have no way of knowing if they'll receive the amount of water they need, when they need it and have to hope that climate change doesn't screw them over.

This revealed you have no idea WTF you are talking about.

Percentage of your population engaged in farming has nothing to do with the amount of food produced.

Almost 100% of third world shitholes are engaged in farming while the majority urbanized US produces far more food.

China DELIBERATELY urbanized its population forcing them into cities and India is trying to do the same right now. India's pro market BJP Hindutva under Modi tried to pass farm reform laws and urbanise India forcing Indian farmers off farmland.

When India and China were majority rural is when most people starved in massive famines.

                >bleeding heart environmentalist
Don't see many of these that fish. Reason being is that fishing itself is inherently environmentally damaging.
                >Boat spewing unburned fuel and exhaust into the water
                >Lost, snagged tackle littering the bottom and various forms of cover in a waterbody
                >Release mortality for any reason (gut hooking, getting sharked, exhaustion, etc)
Thinking about it, I guess fly fishing for trout is the closest to the ideal that can be attained. Yes flies will still be lost in the trees or on the bottom but they're typically no bigger than your fingernail as well as if a fly ends up being left in a fish, it's so small it won't do anything to it. It's also walk in, walk out.

I'm a sustainable systems engineer, a specialist in the field of making things that are environmentally damaging less so
One of the key factors that motivated me to pursue this path was the realisation that environmental degradation would mean no more fishing, which is something that I have always loved

I think that's a bit of an overreaction but more power to you either way. Carp and tilapia can be grown in literal sewage for instance and have been in ye olden times in Europe and currently in Africa. The environment would have to be truly turbofricked to mean no more fishing. Like, even moreso than the worst industrial dystopia you can imagine.

If you don't miss that is. Tried it once, never again. Frick stabbing it 4 times trying to search for it brain, thinking I got it on the 5th because it stopped moving but wasn't actually dead, just paralyzed. Supercooled ice brine has been just fine. No need to re-invent the wheel for this.

What ever happened to the good ol' method of smacking the things head against the boat or just cutting it off if you're on a trawler?

That used to work fine and did the job in a matter of seconds.

No one wants to buy chinese shit and no companies want to be in china. Its not the 90s. China fricked up. they fricked up in Hong Kong, they fricked up during covid and their ;wolf warrior' bullshit and wumao army undid everything their nation had accomplished to improve its image. China went from friendly engagement with the west to a bitter belligerent insulting flailing tyrannical isolationism. Anyone in any major business who suggested manufacturing in China now would be fired for incompetence. Thousands of companies have ceased operations in China and won't be going back. Increases in shipping costs make ordering from China unattractive and the quality of the goods manufactured there is generally notoriously poor. Chinas threats against Taiwan after what the CCP did in Hong Kong were the straw that broke the camels back. people form communist china are now viewed with suspicion globally and Chinas economy is obviously a bag of lies and fake numbers backed by crumbling badly built shitboxes no one wants and too many for the Chinese themselves to live in. It is unironically over for China in the world. They even hitched themselves to Putin, every bad decision possible by Xi undoing everything Deng accomplished with the USAs support as favoured nation trading partner. Muh useless crappy soviet tier planes and aircraft carriers and shuttered plastic cup holder factories. Get fricked chang . The west is taking the prosperity it blessed you with and giving it to other more deserving nations.

Japan actually contributed a lot of innovations in machine tools, optics and other fields, but not specifically DSLR cameras, which were, hilariously, a Kodak invention (Sony did make the first non-film camera, but it was based on analog video stills and not actually digital).

Kodak invented the digital camera. DSLR was invented and demonstrated by Sony, while Nikon made the first commercial model.

Actually I'll take that back. it looks like I got mixed up and thought that Sony also demonstrated digital first. Sony and Nikon ones were filmless but not truly digital as you say. I suppose the first "true DSLR" was the Kodak.

Japan was about to be an economic power house in the 80s to the point that the US media began fear mongering about their fast growing economy and influence. It all stopped after japan's economic bubble popped and their society started having issues such as population shrinkage.

Nope. Norks changed their text to hangul whenever they could for "patriotic" reasons, readability be damned. Also, those are simplified characters, only China uses those to that extent, Japan only simplified a handful and Korea uses full traditional.
