Ah the Battle of Marawi. The greatest reenactment of the Vietnam War ever made...

They worked against the old as frick RPG-2s and improvised rocket launchers ISIS had in that battle.

iirc they worked surprisingly well, the rpg clones the enemies used had real bad fuses which would not explode unless they hit something hard as stone or metal

The rebels they fought only had homemade RPG-2s, they don't even have RPG-7s.

They had access to .50 cals which will frick up that Vietnam-era junk regardless hence the wood armor.

They were shot at with fricking FIREWORKS, not RPGs. I don't know why you would trust brown people. It's like when that Challenger 2 was shot at with 70 HE frag warheads and bongs claimed it was invulernable to HEAT.

They used RPG-2 and even scored hits on these commandos hence why the flips started putting scraps as makeshift armor

They're clones, they're just old RPG-2 stocks so plenty of them became duds as they don't store them properlh

The flips are lucky that most of the weapons circulating in those part of shitholes are mainly small arms (unlike africa or the middle east) because even beginner tier anti tank weapon like spg9 would tear these armored cars several new buttholes

They should retire all of those V-100s and V-150s and replace them with modern IFVs

Redback would be nice or the Guarani

No need to waste shekels on APCs with their turd world budget

If they want to use wood armor,. usea proper wood armor. Get a young, thick branch instead of rotting scraps

Does the actual strength of the wood matter at all? I assumed it was acting purely as spaced armor, little more effective than an equivalent air gap

It does if the other guys were using heavy kinetic weapons

Don't forget that these V100 armor is pretty thin and the milfs (heh) have access to 50 BMG, both from captured M2 and their homemade anti materiel rifle.

Air gaps that small are going to be completely useless against even rudimentary homemade shaped charge weapons. Even if the copper jet barely forms, the thickest part of the V150 is only ~9mm thick HHA so even a homemade copper cone that's lopsided as frick is going to get enough penetration to go through. It probably worked because the wood gives a bit and messes with the fuzes. That or the wood didn't help and the projectiles fuzed poorly in general but it happened to hit more wood covered vehicles so they assumed it helped

You might actually be better with a soft wood vs a RPG and hope it doesn't detonate at all. Wood armor acts like spaced armor so it can work by having the EFP jet detonate too far away. The wood itself has very little actual value in stopping any projectile. Totally ineffective vs a basic b***h AP shell or dart.

      >Get a young, thick branch
It's called improvised for a reason. At that point just order proper ERA.

        >order proper ERA
They could barely afford relatively modern APC or even provide proper ration for the soldiers you think PA have money to buy actual ERA plates?

Yeah no shit, that's why they have to improvise.

Yes and theyve done a piss poor job at improvisation. It's really not hard (or expensive) to rig a rack like

            >barely afford proper ration
Sure the army didn't have specific rations until very recently but the columnist was very disingenuous with his piece. Previously the army gave the men off the shelf product for their rations and stuff like rice, pasta, canned sardines, eggs, coffee, sugar, biscuits were available to every men

Tbh within SEA the only other countries that issue military ration are Malaysia and Singapore. Afaik Indonesia and Thailand still use commercial products that they mix and match according to soldier's needs.
Honestly I don't having military spec ration is really that important. The IDF is one of the most effective fighting force and they also use commercial off-the-shelf products.

Young, damp wood don't splinter easily lmao

In the old days palisades made of thick, damp wood can even withstand cannon shots

Wood armour probably does frick all at reducing penetration from whatever's being shot at it but it will soak up random frag from bullets and explosions. Shooting rounds at hardened Steel makes bullets explode into sharp Lil bits of frag that will frick your day up. The wood may help absorb these little frickers if you're standing near the afv. Better than nothing imo
