help me out. Do I need borax for melting down .999 silver coins? I wanna do a simple open cast of a heart. Simply form it in clay, press it into the casting sand. Melt down 2, or 3 pure silver bullion 1Oz coins with a blowtorch and pour it in.

I don't think you need borax for such a small amount. Buy a frame for the sand as well.

Yeah I got a wooden frame, but I thought maybe instead using a metal kitchen bowl, then heat it up with the sand in the oven to evaporate moisture and make the molten silver not cool too quickly.
