don't mean to alarm you anon but it takes a long time before the lead starts to get into your brain proper.
leaded gasoline was at its more popular in the 70's but the effects only became prominent in the 90's. its also why you see old people being so deranged and behaving incomprehensibly.

I believe that tomatoes were poisonous until we bred them not to be. It's a nightshade. Potatoes, another nightshade, sometimes grow tomato-like fruits which are very poisonous.

              >the acidity of the tomatoes leeched the leaf out of the pewter alloy
That's true, but they didn't believe that tomatoes were poisonous because of it. Lead toxicity was understood then, however even had they now hiw would they have made a direct connection between the consumption of tomato and the symptoms of lead poisoning. Nightshade poisonings are not a chronic slowly developing thing like heavy metal poisonings.

No, it was blamed on the tomatoes. Lead dissolved in bioavailable acid is much, much more dangerous than particles of elemental lead from gunfire. Further, it was not commonly believed that tomatoes were acidic at all because they tasted sweet, and did not have the citrus taste that people believed was the hallmark of all acid.

They didn't. Roman's used lead for their water pipes but they also used water high in chalk. As a consequence lime scale would develop on the pipes over time insulating the water from the lead

Going to indoor range is the worst. You should never go to one. Every part of the room will test positive for lead and it's just nonstop in the air. Only shoot at an outdoor range and even then I wouldn't risk it. If you lead test your gun right now it will mark positive and even the smallest particle of lead will lead to permanent negative effects.. Lead free ammo is good but you have to make sure it's 100% lead free. Most of them arne't

Different autist, but yeah driving with the windows down isn't good for your hearing long term. I'm near 40 and I have asymmetrical hearing loss in my left ear only.

It's like your ears can only take so much sound over a lifetime and hours of wind noise can eat a large chunk of that balance.

The problem is currently primers. There are lead-free primers in use but the technology isn't there yet and I believe they are less reliable.

        Anonymous

This guy is correct, the problem is lead styphanate in primers which is vaporized when you shoot then subsequently inhaled or transfered to your body and clothes where it can then enter your bloodstream by you touching your face. Ideally you should shoot outdoors, wearing an n95 mask, then change your clothes, don't wear your your shoes into your house and wash your hands with chelating soap like d-lead.

i am a male nurse that worked on a covid ward for over a year, i wore the ffp2 (n95) mask every day and never got covid while i was there, colleagues that werent so thorough with mask wearing all got it super fast.

in my experience the virus doesnt really spread by surface and focusing on proper wearing of the n95 mask was the most effective thing in preventing an infection. also you can get a much higher viral load directly into your lung by inhaling. our entire night shift force got really sick within a week in fall 2020 because they didnt wear the mask and inhaled covid directly from the patients.

                >It is also clear that masks serve symbolic roles. Masks are not only tools, they are also talismans that may help increase health care workers’ perceived sense of safety, well-being, and trust in their hospitals. Although such reactions may not be strictly logical, we are all subject to fear and anxiety, especially during times of crisis. One might argue that fear and anxiety are better countered with data and education than with a marginally beneficial mask, particularly in light of the worldwide mask shortage, but it is difficult to get clinicians to hear this message in the heat of the current crisis. Expanded masking protocols’ greatest contribution may be to reduce the transmission of anxiety, over and above whatever role they may play in reducing transmission of Covid-19

                > Masking all providers might limit transmission from these sources by stopping asymptomatic and minimally symptomatic health care workers from spreading virus-laden oral and nasal droplets
If it's good for healthcare workers it's good for me too. They face off against potentially infected people daily, as I do riding the trains or sitting in auditoriums as often. The very authors contradict themselves by saying that wearing a mask does little to stop infection, yet mention conditions needed to get infected that are commonly encountered.

                >Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes).

kek. yeah and then you have an accident and need a place in the icu and surgery and you wont get either because the icu is filled to the brim with covid patients and 90% of all surgeries cancelled because the anesthesists are all working in the icu and out of 3 surgical wards 1 got turned into a covid ward, 1 is held in reserve/shut down because of sick leaves and the 3rd really only does the absolute life threatening necessary surgeries which means if your broken limb technically needs surgery but its not life threatening, yeah you gotta wait and just cope with the fact that your arm will not become straight ever again.

And that was moronic. The average Covid death, even using inflated counts, was higher than the average life expectancy. The average BMI of someone under 40 who was hospitalized for covid was 43.1. Fatties shouldn’t be so fricking fat and they’d be ok. They should also be left without care. That’s not just my opinion that’s what makes the most logical sense

                >average Covid death, even using inflated counts
covid deaths were massively underreported. the usual covid death was months to years after infection, because older patients usually wouldnt fully recover from covid afterwards, they wouldnt get enough oxygen because their lungs were damaged, their hearts were weakened because they had been bed ridden for weeks, they wouldnt eat or drink normally, wouldnt be able to walk anymore, wouldnt talk anymore, they were reported as covid survivors even though they were basically at deaths door, when they died months later they were not counted as covid deaths even though covid had killed them. and if you also count in the deaths that happened because a lot of health care services got basically shut down (cancer surgery, chemotherapy) for months you get a really big wave in covid related deaths that arent reported as covid deaths.

the lockdowns werent done in the beginning, they were done usually shortly after the peak of the infection wave.

also they barely got executed, a lot of people would just do whatever and police would say they dont have enough resources to monitor so many people and that was it. close to my place is a small patch of forest where teenagers used to do lockdown parties. countries that did really hard core lockdowns like china had 0 covid for a long time. diseases that arent as easily transmissible (influenza) vanished almost completely.

at that time opinion was that its just another SARS epidemic with limited spread. i doubt the chinese themselves fully knew at the time how infectious the virus would become. in the west in january 2020 no one really cared. it wasnt until a month later after italy reported about hospitals in some areas getting overwhelmed by it that people took notice.

                > i doubt the chinese themselves fully knew at the time how infectious the virus would become.
they absolutely knew which is why they tried to lock it down in the beginning so drastically. everyone conveniently forgets the idea that this was a bioweapon was very prevalent near the outset and the deviation from trump's "kung flu" was a last-ditch effort to salvage any remaining political goodwill with china. the idea that this was a bioweapon stolen from a western lab and leaked from the wuhan lab was making the rounds, and wet markets were always a short-sighted revisionist cope to quite literally and ironically try to prevent blind racism against chinese. china hated the notion that they were responsible, did everything in their power to change that image. somehow the disease early on hit ethnic chinese very hard, almost harder than others. crazy how that works

Expanded masking protocols’ greatest contribution may be to reduce the transmission of anxiety, over and above whatever role they may play in reducing transmission of Covid-19

wheter they are useful for normies in public who wont wear them properly anyway yeah thats debatable but if you work with covid patients and you dont want to get infected, then ffp2 masks work. thats what ive experienced over months and i got coughed at every week.

Do those kids look abused to you anon. Looks dumb but it's not really abuse.

No one cares if you personally wear a cuck muzzle. The problem is in a lot of places it was illegal to go outside for a full year without wrapping yourself in a burqa. That was moronic and quite literally a curtailment of basic personal freedoms.

                Oh no not my freedoms.
Also >cuckmuzzle is an emotional name you've given it because you're a woman.
I do think the idea of wearing them in personal cars or outside was dumb, the US and Aus did that, but in the UK or France I think you only needed them indoors with others or on public transport after the first week of stay at home orders, and generally you were able to go to close friends and family if you were on the down-low about it, you know rational governance.

I can be pro mask and still think the broad laws created by some countries to stop people trying to skirt the changes were ultimately silly, but necessary in the moment. People, particularly morons, are often resistant to change. You often need overarching legislation in the short term to get people to do anything when the world changes so they change with it, this can lead to silly laws, but they should get repealed to more rational ones when people are ready to accept the change, unlike what happened in Aus where they did not repeal it at all.

I don't understand why a nuanced opinion on this issue causes so much seethe, it's like they have a dog in the race, an emotional attachment to using a mask kek. I wear glasses, it's incredibly annoying to wear a mask due to fogging in winter, and yet I still wouldn't mind wearing one in public if I was mildly ill somehow, or there was some disease ripping through the population.

Modern bullets are all copper jacketed. Unless you're doing handloading or recycling the lead it's nearly impossible to even touch the lead much less get exposed enough to suffer lead poisoning.

Unless you're dumb enough to think lead is naturally red.

Yes, after they've just shot a gun. Simply carrying the gun will not expose you to lead and you can remove most of it down to trace levels with a wet wipe or hand soap. Frankly, you're getting more lead exposure from soldering or old paint.

No, the human kidney is actually pretty good at cleaning the blood. This is, of course, assuming that you are using a partial copper jacket and not a full jacket or simply using solid copper rounds.

Honestly, worrying about lead is just alarmist. You can test and treat lead poisoning easily, just know the signs.

Lead gets expelled via urine and feces, unless you shoot everyday in an indoor range with shit ventilation, and never wash your hands you should be relatively fine just using the wipes. Wearing a fabric mask is also fine, but shooting outdoors in general reduces lead exposure. Taking breaks between long shooting sessions also lets your body expel excess lead instead of accumulating it constantly. Basically, don't be a tard.

Lead isn't plutonium. Unless you do something moronic like collect expended bullets or sweep an indoor range bare handed and then eat a bag of chips you'll be fine. Most range exposure is safe with common sense. Lead salts and compounds are WAAAYYYY more toxic than metalic lead because they're much more bioavailable. Just handle lead like garbage - a little garbage on your bare hands is fine, but you wouldn't want to eat with those hands until you washed them. A larger amount of garbage requires gloves. You don't want to breathe in garbage fumes all day, so ventilate. Don't let kids play with garbage. Treat the lead used in shooting and fishing the same way, and you'll be fine.

Drink milk. The lead uptake pathways are ones that are actually supposed to be calcium uptake pathways, and they uptake calcium better than they uptake lead, so if you give yourself a diet rich in calcium, your body will uptake calcium in preference to lead and the lead will be passed through your system.

90% of lead poisoning can be avoided by not shooting at a indoor range (I work with air filtration units and I've never seen a single indoor range in my life where, even new, the lead and PM2.5/PM10 levels weren't tens of times higher than recommended safe levels) and not eating while you're shooting and washing your hands and clothes afterwards. If you want to go the extra mile don't wash your range clothes with your regular clothes and get checked at least once every 2 years for lead blood levels.
Most people don't shoot enough to warrant going above my first 2 advices, and if you do shoot enough to be worried simply remember that lead poisoning and its effects are PERMANENT.

      Anonymous

Lead blood levels won't tell you how much lead you have already assimilated into your bones.

Everybody in this thread is saying their blood levels are fine like they are safe. It doesn't work that way. It's lifetime exposure that makes you moronic. Not your blood levels on the day of the test. You could lose have your IQ to lead posioning but if you haven't been exposed in a while your blood levels will be back as fine.

        Anonymous

        >makes you moronic
With lead poisoning by the time your IQ is noticeably lower you're already going to be dealing with far more serious and dangerous side effects. Blood lead levels are ok to use as a unit measure if you take them regularly. You should get specific testing done like bone etc only if you already have been shooting indoor for years, you suspect you have had lead poisoning for a good while and never had your blood tested. (in any case they will still test your blood as it is the quickest way to determine your situation)
The only cases where someone has a lot of lead deposits and not much in the blood would be kids who munched too much lead paint as kids to the point of having a stunted mental development but they also tend to die early from related complications

          Anonymous

My understanding is that if somebody got a good exposure 10 years ago then got no further exposure, that wont show up in a blood test, only a bone test. And it's still important because it's part of your cumulative lifetime dose.

      Anonymous

      >get checked at least once every 2 years for lead blood levels.
Let's say you get checked and they are too high. What can you do about it? Does your lead blood levels go down over time if you stop shooting?

        Anonymous

        >What can you do about it?
Chelation therapy if it's still in your blood. then find what is giving you exposure and limit it. the one that has accumulated in the bones and some organs then it's too late and you're stuck with it

Lead water pipes are actually safe so long as your water is sufficiently hard and alkaline because a coating of calcified limescale builds up on the inside of the pipe protecting the water from any contact with lead. Flint happened because the black city council switched to a cheaper source of water so they could embezzle more money and the new more acidic water source ate through the limescale coating and started leaching lead into the drinking water supply.

I've shot about 200 rounds of 9mm in an indoor range about 7 different times over the span of 5 years. Is this enough to give significant lead exposure?

I don't understand myself and my father cast lead soldiers and bullets and soldered electronics and clocks etc and he's in his 90s and I have three kids two with Phds and one a pilot. Could it be that OP is spamming anti gun hypochondriac homosexualry again? Or is lead just a super food?

true lead free? no one makes them. but you can buy solid copper bullets and reload them with lead free primers. As of right now all "lead free" ammo is just for wetland hunting which still contains Pb styphnade and Pb oxydes in the primers

I love how people are too stupid to think for 5 seconds about how and why masks slow or prevent spread of diseases that spread via mucous, saliva, and snot.

Everytime you talk, sneeze, cough, or laugh you spray droplets from your mouth or nose. The mask is going to catch the vast majority of these, preventing someone from breathing in your shed viral particles.

It's why someone can go to a concert with covid and only infect 15-50 people instead of the entire fricking arena.

If you are sick you should wear a mask when near others to prevent spreading your illness. If you aren't sick, no need to wear one. This isn't a hard concept to understand.
    >inb4 seething about being a coward or a bootlicker.
My employer threatened to fire me from my job for not getting the vaccine. I told them I'm not getting it, didn't get it, and they backed down after the date they said they would fire me was reached without me getting it. There's a difference between being a coward and a rude butthole who spreads their filth everywhere. I expect you not to shit in the street as well.

if people gather in places and freely exhale and inhale each others droplets they are going to spread respiratory infections. this isnt a hard concept to understand.

      >If you are sick you should wear a mask when near others to prevent spreading your illness
you should stay the frick home.
that was one lesson I hoped people would learn from all this: if you are sick, stay home.

        Anonymous

Not everyone can stay home for however long the infectious stage of their illness takes. In fact, most people can't unless they are jobless and live with their parents. It's not reasonable for someone to take up to a week off of work every time they get sick, unless their employer is going to continue to pay them while they do it.

Yeah and all of these people, of which there are a frick ton, have survival pressure to go out in public while sick. They just cannot stay home. So they spread more sickness and those people they infect often have the same problem.

virus replication is often highest before the symptoms set in. the symptoms are a reaction to high viral load being detected by your body. as in the symptoms come after youve already been producing and spreading virus for a day or 2.

that is why the "healthy" had to be locked in as well.

          Anonymous

Show me one study that proves lockdowns did a fricking thing. Equal population states with vastly different reactions had no correlation to death rate. Take Iowa vs New Mexico for instance.

Okay? You might trip on your shoelace and die. You might eat some tainted lettuce and die of salmonella. You might get Legionnaire's from a shitty old air conditioner. Do we have to lock everyone inside during flu season? Do we have to live underground because of melanoma? Sorry the reality of life and death upsets you. It's not morally justified to imprison everyone just because you're a gormless Godless coward afraid of his own mortality. If you think it is then you're either a deranged communist or a frightful utilitarian (both are equally bad).

What I always find funny about people freaking out about lead exposure from shooting is they never mention professional shooters. Guys like Jerry Miculek would be madder than a hatter. He’s 70 and shoots more in a year than any of us do in a lifetime and he’s been doing that for his adult life. Yet he’s fine

Realistically, lead-exposure is a serious risk but only affects a small percentage of shooters. Those shoot indoors and do so a lot. Professional shooters who train 3 times a week and fire 10 000 rounds and more per year and such.

Your average recreational shooter, especially those who shoot outdoors, are hardly affected by this.

  73. 2 months ago
    Anonymous

Since maskgays are clearly the health experts, why don’t they opine on the tangible impacts of shooting and higher lead exposure. We have a bunch of assumptions with no backing, so enlighten us oh wise ones. Why do professional shooters not all have health complications? Why do soldiers shooting belt feds all the time not have issues?

      Anonymous

Not a maskgay but it's simply the fact that most, if not all, shooters who are worth a shit shoot outside

        Anonymous

I agree with you. There were also people saying that it doesn’t matter and outdoor shooting will still kill you. I’d also expect someone shooting 100-1000 rounds indoors a year, like an “average” gun owner, has no more lead exposure than someone shooting tens of thousands outside.

maskgay here. i recommend wearing a n95 mask while firing. it blocks the lead dust from getting into your lungs and you will have lower lead levels in your blood by using the mask.

unironically i think this should be studied, n95 masks are dust masks, they should work.
