Is there any design more perfect than a M18 Smoke Grenade?

        Muh rushah

Fun fact, foot wraps are actually better at supporting the feet, keeping them dry, preventing trench foot, etc, over socks when they are wrapped properly.

Socks are literally a cope from expanding populations and armies filled with morons that couldn't learn to wrap a foot wrap properly.

Also Russia stopped using foot wraps in 2013 lel

My grandfather was in the FFL and told me about the wraps too. He loved them. If they were so good, why did teh russians stop using them?

            Anonymous

Mostly because they really weren't sure what a modernization was going to look like in regards to the whole ratnik program, leading them to copy some western things here and there as simple "upgrades", like socks.

Also it's kind of a psychological or even morale thing aswell, foot wraps look old and archaic when compared against socks, so they switched to socks.

Those are really just informed guesses though. But regardless of why the Russians made the switch there are studies about foot wraps you can look up, and I'll list a couple reasons why they are better

            >When wrapped correctly the inner wrapping holds the foot taught and provides more support than a sock at the correct angles

            >The outer wrapping expands inside the boot and provides cushioning and acts like a wedge keeping the foot in the proper position inside the boot without shifting around, basically compensating for boots not being custom fitted and sized to every person's foot.

            >The multiple layers and wraps wick sweat off the feet, while at the same time keep small amounts of water from rain or puddles from seeping into the inner layers and getting the foot wet

            >And the final thing that comes to mind is they dry much faster than socks when they do get wet due to the full surface area being exposed when taken off.
A sock may take hours to fully dry, while a foot wrap can be dried in seconds when properly hung over a small fire, or in a few minutes if just put on a tree branch or something.

There are a lot of other reasons aswell.

But again wrapping them wrong is literally dangerous and will cause damage to your feet and ankles and everything else do to improper angles of pressure and shit

Sounds like a high skill floor for expendable grunts to get their shoes on.

                Anonymous

That's actually probably the main reason why they changed to socks, to make training easier.
I've heard (not that I KNOW though) that they spent multiple days teaching grunts to wrap them correctly, because again wrapping them incorrectly will literally cripple them especially if they are rucking anything

have a nice day, I'm American and I wear socks because I don't know how to wrap a foot wrap correctly and would rather not totally destroy my ankles and cripple myself.

If I knew someone to teach me the proper wrapping technique I'd daily drive foot wraps and never wear a sock again. I've done my research.

I love my hiking socks, they're far more supportive than any shitty wrap.

Also fun fact foot wraps are great for extending the life of wool socks. You put on the sock, then the foot wrap and you can gain more life by reducing how much the heel of your boot rubs off when taking them off and putting them on.

Is that why they immediately switched to socks as soon as they could?

So why did they stop using them if they were better? Double-think at play again, huh Ivan?

Because dumb conscripts frick them up and cripple themselves. They are unironically better. The dude isn't wrong. They provide support, dry better, and help boot fitment. They're just not something you can slap together like slipping on a sock. You can't rush it. A lot of nations used foot wraps as the standard for a long time until socks made them pseudo obsolete. Russia was just suuuuuuper late modernizing to socks, most likely stemming from them homies being broke as hell. No cap.

there's a pretty cool PrepHole channel on YT that has a few long videos on how to make your own smoke grenades at home. doesn't look particularly difficult, expensive, or require many ingredients or parts, just needs to be somewhat precise in the construction and portionings

IIRC unless you find inert or second hand the supply of M18s was cut off to civilians. Something about the fuses being easily usable for making knockoff frag grenades or something. Anyone more knowledgeable here care to tell me if I'm wrong?

        Anonymous

yeah a dumbass atf ruling on the fuses keeps them from coming to civilians. i’m told they were quite common in surpstores pre 00s

the only ways to get any that aren’t older than you is thru friends with access to army supply cages or buddies with connections. i’m quoted at 250 a pop from a NVG dealer friend

Foot wraps are so great that no person I've ever known who is in the military, likes hiking, camping or doing anything outdoorsy has ever recommended them.

  13. 2 years ago

I'm going to let you guys in on a secret.
If you want the best smoke grenade you can easily get your hands on, ask around at a marina. Large boats and ships often cycle out their distress signal smokes after they hit expiration dates and you can often get them for $5-10 and sometimes for free.
Three minutes of very thick orange smoke once you pull the ring.
Very reliable and weather proof unlike a lot of the airsoft ones.
My only complaint is they are a bit fat.
