Pick up a lockpick set, most locks can be raked with little to no skill beyond watching a yt video.
I had to get one with two paper clips once. Took me longer than I'd like to admit (mostly because I started trying to single pin without knowing what I was doing), but it got done (once I started raking).
>inna college for machining degree
>they're doing inventory or some shit
>locked roller cabinet
>no one knows where the key is
>grab a flat screwdriver and a .05" hex wrench
>rake it open in like 5 seconds
"Why do you know how to do that, anon?"
>mfw it was the first time I've ever actually picked a lock
nobody puts baby in a corner, anon
the master keys for all brands of office cabinets can be bought off of youtube.
meant ebay
I have a safe I can't get into and I tried your trick. I couldn't find any master keys, but I did find a YouTube video of a guy smashing it open with a hammer and chisel in literally one minute. That works too. I was hoping it would be full of money but it's fricking empty (apart from the master key to open it, which I really needed up until about two minutes ago).
>be me and the guys in our tech support unit
>tasked with picking up all the leftover equipment in a vacated building scheduled to be torn down.
>some idiot locks 10 or more doors for no good reason.
>handles all look like pic related
"oh noes" says everyone how will we get inside
>lean as hard as I can on door handle
>pull up as hard as I can on door handle
door opens
>do this for all doors.
>same job state government offices
>use key cards to get in to all buildings and secure areas.
>forget keycard one day
>use pick related to get in to all doors.
>tell supervisor about it
does nothing
>tell other office managers at all the locations
the do nothing.

>admitting to your employer that you broke into the building
>ishygddt
It was in my job description to do that.
the locksmithing guild is like nobility, it mostly passes down through family
I remember that. The locksmiths used to bring their wives and 3 kids to the tradeshows. It was like a family vacation/training seminar for their children.
You thought he was going to sit there and pick your stupid lock?
Lol. Lmao even!
Same story with any other residential “trade”. You’re better off DIY’ing just about everything. Only jobs needing a team or heavy machinery are worth it in my book
>You’re better off DIY’ing just about everything. Only jobs needing a team or heavy machinery are worth it in my book
Not being a one man team and having all the heavy machinery... ISHYGDDT.
I know how to pick locks it’s a lot less useful than you think it is…
I have lifetime warranty lock pick sets disc detainer picks and meme ones like the covert companion which isn’t very good… it’s like a low iq zoomer meme skill
I picked one of my own locks with a couple strands of barbed wire I unraveled and then hammered flat on the back of my pickup flatbed. Then I took the file on my gerber tool and shaped the pick part. Saved me a half hour of driving and a few gallons of fuel by not having to retrieve the key I had forgotten at home.
Do it yourself.
The little metal piece used to hold your windshield wipers in place is literally what they use to make tension wrenches
You could cut that down into a tension wrench and a not so good pick
As long as your home isn’t secured with an assa a lot or one of those weird as frick quick sets that use the quick key rekeying system and locking bar you can get in
>The little metal piece used to hold your windshield wipers in place is literally what they use to make tension wrenches
Yes I have used those before too. They also work great for depinning electrical connectors
>"locksmith" that doesn't have a lockpick gun
You let him do it and you paid him for his incompetence. Who's to blame?
I hate locksmiths because they're all israeli
>call a blacksmith
>is actually white
>what the hell man..
>call locksmith
>let him know I locked myself out of my house after working in the garage all day
>tells me it'll be 2 hours
>2 hours later locksmith calls and says hes on the way
>30 mins later he rolls up
>asks me which car I'm locked out of
>tell him i'm locked out of my house not a car
>he dips saying he only does automotive lockouts
>call dispatch back, pissed they wasted my time and ask when is the residential locksmith coming
>"oh we don't have any on call, you'll have to wait until morning"
>fricking fuming
>In moment of anger decide I'm just gonna smash the backdoor peep window to get inside
>out 3 dollars for the sheet glass instead of 200 dollars
theres some good dudes out there i'm sure but goddamn it if it doesn't feel like the bulk of locksmiths are ripping you the frick off
I was under the admittedly naive impression that a Locksmith was a legit trade where these guys were basically expert lockpickers that had specific tools along with an intimate knowledge of how most locks worked.
Reality is, they are just fricking idiots that brute force their way into a lock door or gate using crude tools then over charge for their service and you rip you the frick off while also damaging your property.
picking locks is a good hobby. remember that in the field bent over next to a knob you can't rotate that is also years dirty is not the same as holding the doorknob or lock in one hand and picking with the other.
for tools go to your friendly local auto parts store whenever it rains. there will be a half dozen windshield washer tossed in the outside bins and you can strip them with your bare hands (well I can but I'm not some weeny zoomie with girl hands) to get the spring steel supports. it's fricking great for tensioners, and you can file picks out of it as well.
for locks pick up anything you can, garage sale, craigslist, your dad's garage. you can get doorknobs and deadbolts but seriously mount them in board to simulate the height and location of a door. then just sit and pick, masterlocks are garbage but you can still actually learn from actually picking them.
this is so true and pretty devastating to any child who grows up thinking they are some kind of learned mechanical wizards.
Check out the CBC Marketplace investigation on locksmiths. It is common practice for a guy to create a bunch of listings on Google Maps in different locations across the city, under different names. All unlicensed, shady practices, they tell you that your Home Depot Weiser Smartkey lock set is a special one that requires special tools so they can only drill the core out, then they install a cheap $20 generic lock set and charge you $250. Can't even repin the lock to your existing keys.
Is locksmithing one of those trades that doesn't have any sort of licensing? I don't think I have ever heard of someone being happy with a locksmiths work, they always feel like they were ripped off and could've done it themselves.
Don't know about other provinces but in Québec it is regulated by the Bureau de la sécurité privée. You need a license to install door locks for profit and to even carry lockpicks in public. They also regulate alarm system installers, surveillance camera installers and private security agents. A lot of fly-by-night operations will do all of the aforementioned without license.
I’m California they’re pretty strict no felons etc
I’m sure in Texas anybody with a hercules brand drill and a free screwdriver that they got with a coupon from harbor freight can be a lock smith
being a lazy zoomer and not doing your own locksmithing.
>be me
>edc picks
>know how to use them
>pick open multiple vehicles and many other locks due to stupidity basically
I've literally picked open half of the doors at my work because too lazy to go track down a key
>frogposter can't even into a $10 lockpick set online
Took me maybe 15 mins to learn how to get good at cracking the average doorlock mate
Install cylindrical barrels if you care about security honestly.
>destroys your lock along with your door/gate
>"that'll be 200$"
>trust me bro it really happened
>boomers amir? XD
self hating millennial detected
I have no idea how to pick locks and no idea how locks work but in high school one time I just awkwardly shoved a bobby pin and the back of a spoon into one of the lockers locks and fricked around for a bit like it was fricking fallout 3 and it just fricking opened
I'm pretty sure most locks are just fake or something
They don't want school lockers to lock anymore, they can usually open similar models with the same key.
