the design phase of the t54 started in 1944/5, with it starting production in 1946

It's certainly not a mid cold war one either. It being produced a year after ww2 ended is not the technological feat you think it is. It is most definitely "ww2 era" and no amount of using it after it ended will make it not. Following that logic you may as well it a modern tank because it's used in a modern war.

Russian army at the start of the war - at peacetime size.
Russian army right now - reserves called up, penal battalions, forced conscription, using airfield crews and ship crews as infantry.
If they were smaller now than they were at the start of the war, that would imply casualties in the vicinity of 2,000,000.

Vatniks have been trying to present this amendment as some big proof of tyrant Zelensky having to punish his people to distract from what's going on in Russia.
The missing context is that it has been in parliamentary limbo for a while and was amended to a milder form from the initially rejected proposal.
Meanwhile how laws are ratified in Russia:
      >rewrite it and add amendments the previous day
      >if anyone disagrees, remind them of "what happened in 1937"

    >you must take all of your recruited troops, put them through a 2 week basic course then throw them into Bakhmut!
You're now aware that quite a few of the US divisions involved in the Normandy landings were formed in the US, spent multiple actual years training for everything from mountain invasions to amphibious landings, before seeing their first contact as a division in France. Part of the reason why the "Patton is the general leading the invasion!" meme worked so well is because the Germans at that point honestly had no fricking idea how many divisions had been raised, where they were or what they were doing, so a notional "invasion army" lead by a notoriously aggressive armored general with completely nonexistent divisions was taken seriously by German intelligence.

Like really holy frick I know you're going to say I'm coping but the Ukrainian counteroffensive force could be twice the size you think it is and the Russians probably wouldn't know until the unknown half slammed through their lines and ended up in Rostov.

A window has been opened by the Russians in which we could quickly defeat them militarily. This happened because Putin didn’t understand how awful the armed forces were before launching this invasion. Probably all the corrupt officers and brass were hoping that there actually wouldn’t be a war.

But, that window won’t stay open forever. Now that Putin is hyper-focusing on the military and MIC issues, things for them will improve, not get worse. It seems unlikely that Ukraine by itself will be able to inflict a decisive loss on Russia, so that leaves it up to us. Everything converged to create this opportunity, but it looks like our leadership will let it slip by.

      Anonymous

I dunno dude I doubt Russia can sustain this war for the next 25 years in order to 'improve' their military. They began the war in a pretty bad position, got extrodinarily worse over the last year. It's not going to get any better any time soon. Millions of able bodied people have fled the country, hundreds of thousands have died or been horribly maimed in the war. They're experiencing brain drain and they're about to face their worst workers shortage in a long time. Mind you this is all happening while the country will experience a pretty bad demographic crisis in the future as well. Even if Putin purges every single corrupt element in his government, that doesn't change the fact that they simply just don't have enough steam to keep the war going.

Unlikely, their financial situation is rapidly deteriorating after losing a substantial chunk of their oil and gas revenues, and access to most foreign credit markets. Oil prices are down across the board and the price cap mechanism worked surprisingly well. Ramping up production to come close to matching loss rates is a pipe dream for them. And there has been little to no sign of institutional reform within the ranks that I have seen - morale and discipline are worse than they were in the early days.

Russia taking heavy losses is expected, but still not good. It's also compounded by the fact that Russia seems unwilling to devote significant time/manpower/resources to conducting MEDEVAC.

Do you have any screenshots of people saying Russia will withdraw soon?

The most Ukraine side optimism I've seen is people expecting a counterattack to take an oblast within a few months.

    ENOUGH OF THIS TALK!

I demand you russians to attack all neighbor NATO nations and launch your nuclear arsenals upon western cities so a true war may be unleash upon this blasted world rather than this pathetic skirmish!

You moscovite dogs are all effete cowards who haven't been capable to take down one of your miserable former oblasts, while Khorne cares not from whom it flows sending the weak hordes of your thrall satrapies to shed their blood to the guns of the West only shows you and that apeman you have as king are spineless mongrels!

ESCALATE THE WAR! ESCALATE THE WAR!

INVOKE THE FIFTH ARTICLE SO KHORNE MY FEAST THIS SEASON!

    BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
    SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

    >this is to be expected when undertaking offensive operations against a target as heavily fortified as bakhmut, I'm honestly surprised they managed to push into the city center seeing as how Ukraine had months to build up fortifications there.
So if Russia is having so much trouble taking the Bakhmut Superfortress, how much devastation will they suffer when they launch themselves against Interdimensional Hyperfortress Kramatorsk? How do you expect Russia to win with that in mind?

    >this is to be expected when undertaking offensive operations against a target as heavily fortified as bakhmut,
Bakhmut was never intended to become a fortress and a last stand. It only became fortified because after weeks Russians couldn’t take anything of substance. So weeks became months and it became fortified. And there are dozens more to go after bakhmut. But 2 more weeks right? Then it’ll be over
