body armor

Not sure which direction to go with this.
A. Get a climbers rig, strap plates onto it.
Pro is that it's easy, con is that the plates wouldn't overlap very well and would probably take a lot of energy to move in.
B. Get some kind of wetsuit in place of gambeson, sew poly straps onto it, mount plates on straps, remove excess wetsuit material.
Coverage could be very good but it would be very hard to take on and off, could absorb hazardous chemicals or petrol.
C. Get sports armor and increase the coverage with chainmail.
D. Start with a haulberk and add modern composite armor over the top
F. Start with industrial safety equipment

The shields I made were great, stopped a ton of projectiles but turned out to be far more useful for forcing through crowds and blocking entry to places. Plywood was entirely sufficient and a metal bowl did indeed make a very easy blazon. My research indicated the weight should be very low and that a shield was a disposable item, this proved correct in practice.

It sounds like you're talking about armour against stabs, slashes and blunt forces?

Primarily, the main concern is getting stabbed in a scrum. So coverage is a major consideration.

There's some merit in the idea of simply wearing a haulberk under a normal cotton hoodie. If they don't know I'm wearing armor they could concievably stab by torso many times without trying to target another area. I'm seriously expecting to be stabbed.
There are kevlar knife proof shirts and stab vests but these offer no general protection and I'm concerned I would just get beaten down.

I'd like at least 2A for the torso, small caliber firearms are a possibility but just as relevent are other ballistic threats such as javlins, arrows, balistic tazers. Who knows really.

In that case and if you can't just buy purpose made chainmail made for self defence I think you're best off with a homemade chainmail system that you can wear under your normal clothing. There are no need for plates. You can make chainmail in various ways. You could even just crimp your own wire and test different gauges against different stab strengths but the vast majority of stabbings aren't done at any extreme force people just poke at you which even thin wire chainmail would stop.

If you want to add bullet proofing to it don't try and make it all in one. Make stab proof armour out of chainmail and then make another layer that can be worn over it which is a plate.

You're probably right, if I can just buy chainmail vests and wear a 2A over it that would be a very good outcome.
Far more sensible than cobbling shit together or making fiberglass plate armour

I wish it was a joke. Yes literal spears.
The shield is great but I need more coverage for knife attacks, why the 2a then?

Arrows, bow darts, rebar spears, Shanghai's, blowdarts, regular darts, pistol crossbows.

Rarely do these guys have the guts to melee me even when they'res like 20 of them because they are cowards, so they scheme about novel things to throw at me. Last week they threw hubcaps

These commercial vests aren't much good, they are clearly made for duty wear and its assumed the wearer will be actively defending themselves.

The problem is mainly that there is no neck coverage at all, no arm coverage (they'res an artery there) and no coverage under the arms. Often the plates don't even wrap around, it's really just two tiny kevlar squares in a COPE vest.
I considered using one as a base and adding plates, but these have no weight bearing ability and the fabric isn't easy to mount things on because it's uh... stab proof.

Botach has a sale on level 4 plates rightnow. Not going to beat 99 per home built unless you can get free UHMWPE for free.

Get a cheap cotton jacket and strap plates to it or inside of it, for basic starters

plates held together with straps in a weird BDSM harness type thing. it would look weird but it would work.
if you're worried about knife attacks don't forget your inner thighs, some people know to slash at those

look through the archives, some guy on here had several threads where he was making armor out of fiberglass or something, there was some good discussion there

Why are you doing this? If you really needed to defend yourself from commies, you'd gun them down or stab them. If you really cared about your safety you wouldn't put yourself near them. I thought all the anticom types got glowied in 2020/21
