Obviously try to kill some random homosexual scientist in this alien invasion that quickly spreads throughout the US and that we are going to nuke New Mexico for. Half life story was so fricking gay, don’t even try to convince me otherwise.

The military was moronic, but the sci-fi elements are really good.

Secure a cordon, set up command posts and try to find scientists related to the testing at ground zero so we can know what we are dealing with.

Unfortunately we know this won't work, the invasion occurs to quickly and over too large an area.

what made black mesa deadly was the alien infestation teleporting everywhere. No frontlines. Including into the middle of your FOB. Worst part deliberately guided by a alien god baby who decided where and what to port

The us command first idea to kill every staffer they find is ofc extremely moronic. In Black Mesa remake they tried to at least address it by painting the marines to be under impression that the black mesa staff made this deliberately and were basically terrorists. Other then that humanizing them too with things like armor responding to medevac distress calls and getting itself killed in the process

That's gay the US government sending in a death squad to wipe all witnesses out is cooler

Integrate on-site security forces into initial forces to get better idea of what the frick we're dealing with and to more easily round up the science teams for interrogation, leaving sentry guns and mines behind, along with having the black ops team leave that nuke and doing deeper facility investigation and definitely not that shit where they just start fighting the marines on-site. Standby until it's clear enough or something comes through, at which point set off internally placed nuclear warhead and idk nerve agent the shit out of the crater, I want this place to be an environmental fricking disaster by the time we're done here

I always thought it was a shame we never got to revisit Black Mesa or what remained of it in the sequels

I like the Half-Life 2 games, but they might as well be in a different series than the Half-Life 1 games. It's obvious Valve creative staff had a lot of original ideas they were forced to shoehorn into the franchise.

it is painfully obvious valve wanted to make a separate IP with what became HL2. Black mesa references are just so forced in there with cringe like freeman being worshipped as some MIT Jesus and the former black mesa egg heads being automatically the leaders of everything. Any more thought out script would immediately put a lot of emphasis of survivors being fractured and harboring a huge grudge against the black mesa idiots for causing this catastrophy in the first place, starting with freeman. Vorts worshipping him means jacks shit when vorts would not even be there if he had aborted the test. Particularly as a more interesting theory is that it was the vorts that hired Gman and gave him the unstable crystal to trigger a event to kill Nihilanth and escape to freedom.

        >Vorts worshipping him means jacks shit when vorts would not even be there if he had aborted the test
Not sure I know what the issue is here. Vorts love Freeman because him killing the Nihilath set them free. If he aborted the test (something he had no authority to do), the the Vorts would be in the same situation they always had been.

How are you supposed to revisit a facility that got destroyed in a nuclear explosion?
Does the gameplay consist of 6 to 8 hours of fighting in a giant radioactive crater?

Black Mesa was a huge facility, a single underground nuke going off isn't going to reduce it to a crater.

I think you over estimate the ability of soil, steel, and concrete against a nuclear bomb.
The reason fallout shelters aren't vaporized by a nuke is because most of them aren't at ground zero and the explosion happens above ground.
If you were to put a nuke underground, it would explode and cave in anything near by.

By explode I mean vaporize and by near by I mean small city distance.
And black Mesa is the size of a small city.

Set up camp at every entry, methodically clear the facility bit by bit and extract scientists and work with Barneygang instead of mowing them down. Use staffers to help gain entry where necessary and to find out where the rest are. Figure out which of my guys is named Shepard and put him on a heavily armed team to locate Freeman so they can tag team the ayyys.
