Only way to stop the ayys teleporting in is to kill the Nihilanth, and without HEV suits none of the troops can even reach it (never mind that even with all required gear the vast majority would just get themselves killed in Xen)
Unironically all you can do is try to clear the path to the Lambda Complex for Freeman, move everyone inside the building once he's there, and hope he manages to kill it reasonably fast while you hold off Xen creatures
Obvs this is all with hindsight, but in theory if step one of the op was asking the scientists wtf is going on and how to stop it then it's theoretically possible

      Doesn't Xen have oxygen?
There's Osprey's deployed to Black Mesa, it could carry Marines from point A to point be on xen could it not?
You could also get seabees to build bridges from one floating rock to another.
I don't see why it would have to be exclusively Gordon fighting in Xen.

What about Race X and the Combine though

        Anonymous

As far as I remember the Combine was not aware of the existence of Xen until the Mesa incident. The theory is that the Nihilanth were slaves of the Combine but some somehow, were able to scaped to Xen and then they themselves slaved the native alien population and once the portal was open by Freeman, invaded earth so they could flee from the Combine all together. Race X is not Canon but they could either be another alien race from Xen or, a Combine counterpart that wanted to invade earth too

Remember those synths you saw in the Citadel used by the Combine? They kinda look like Race X aliens.
My theory is, that Race X is another alien race enslaved by the Combine. After the Cascade, Gordon not only opened a gateway to Xen, but to the Race X dimension as well, which the Combine later exploited to travel there and enslave them just as they did with Xen creatures and used them as biomechanical war machines. Striders and Hunters kinda look Race X-ish, just like Gunships, they are very insect like pretty much like Race X.

You are forgetting about the nuke that was brought with you that Gman WILL try to detonate if given the chance and in all likelihood try to engineer events to get it to detonate despite your efforts.

Gman was also the one who gave the orders to the military to kill all of the scientists you can see him handing over some papers to a military officer at the beginning/training area of Opposing Force. The Combine wanted all of the scientists death so no one could help them close the portal, it was all part of their plan.

G-Man is either a Nihilanth or Vortigaunt using a high amount of power to shape shift as human, as he is seen constantly fidgeting with his tie bc both races have a third arm there. A few other Xen species have this anatomy but lack the abilities to pull off something like shape shifting. He's definitely Xen in origin.

If He's a voritigaunt why do the other voritigaunts stop him in half life 2 episode 1?
If he's combine then why does he work against the combine.
If he's Xenian than why does he want Gordon to kill the nialanth?
The only 2 explanations is that he's literally a G-man working for the U.S. Government as that's the only Organization that he doesn't frick over, or he's working for an Unknown third party.

                >If He's a voritigaunt why do the other voritigaunts stop him in half life 2 episode 1?
I agree he's not a vortigaunt, but that was a betrayal. That's why he was surprised about it. In HL2 one of the vorts tells Freeman "We serve the same mystery". Which makes sense because the vortigaunts were liberated from the Nihilanth's mind control because of him orchestrating the Black Mesa incident.
G-man is working alone, that's just the strongest way to interpret his character. Extreme individualism vs extreme collectivism. that's why he was willing to sacrifice the entire earth to the combine just to provoke a counter-attack, and why he prefers to focus on a few individual actors rather than any one faction.

Frick, you're right. I think my point still kinda stands as if he is an employee that implies he's a willing actor. He even gives Gordon a choice to join or die, which is still more ethical than mind control. That also makes the word Mystery even more literal. Them being the enlightened ones managing the fates of the masses.

None. His interests are his own.

I don't think he's Combine. But it makes sense of a Xen creature to outgrow the dimension and become their own political entity across realities. Maybe brokering access to the bridge world like a tollbridge or maybe had a falling out with Nihilanth. Maybe is a Vortigaunt and betrayed his fellow aliens to slavery. They made a thorough effort to portray G Man as uncomfortable with being human in body language and speech patterns which makes me doubt he's a standard human glowie. Let alone his abilities.

Vortigaunts were from Xen and not ultimately allied with the Nihilanth once freed, so it's not unheard of for multiple interest groups from the world. G man betrays the US Gov with the rest of Earth by enabling the resonance cascade to cause the 7 hour war. The unknown third party option would be what I'm arguing for, just as a Xen liaison, as it was the transport hub.

He is a rouge Advisor who picked a human form. Remember that scene at the end of HL Alyx, when he reverts back time and the Advisor that caught Eli suddenly looks at you as if he can sense his presence, even though he's outside of time and space? Also, Vort energy seems to be the only effective way to kill an Advisor and it's the only kind energy that can harm Gman, or the very least contain and subdue him.

      >Only way to stop the ayys teleporting in is to kill the Nihilanth
Nope. Portal Storms kept happening across the world well after the Nihilanth was killed. I think it was implied that the storms were what caught the Combine's attention in the first place.

        Anonymous

By the time the game ends it was too late to stop the portal storm, in ep2 the resistance closes the combine portal with a rocket almost immediately after the citadel goes boom, so the other guy has a point, if you want to save humanity you'd need to send everyone to xen and kill nihilanth first, and then launch the rocket from black mesa to close the portal, and pray you were quick enough to avoid more destruction

You have to know before that 1. freeman is an ally and 2. lambda complex exists/there's a way to stop this, so if you have that information you try to contain the situation by the end of the first day (on a rail/ satellite launch) so the president don't send the spec ops and try to nuke the facility the next day, once you have control of black mesa you send everything you got through the portal, kill nihilanth and pray the combinedon't come back to face frick humanity.

You'll have to move enough forces to track and kill every xen insect that spilled over to america too, good luck trying to shoot down the flying manta rays and killing all the allien grunts/gargantua/tentacles killing people all over new mexico

Save the other scientists so we can figure out how to fix the Portal Storms, support Freeman as much as possible, perform a full evac once he's in Xen.figure out a way to kill the G-Man so we can stop the Combine.

The biggest issue is that you'd have to go against direct order. The best wiggling room you'd have is to take your time, secure your own evacuation before anything else and """gather"" the scientist before executing them (you could justify that by telling its easier to execute people that dont hide).
When SHTF, you try to evacuate in good order with as much scientists as possible, maybe leave some units to help them on their last ditch attempt, and go low with everyone to make the core of the future rebellion.

      Anonymous

If you play Black Mesa you can find on steam the "M4 insurgency (Reanimated)" mod click the one that says reanimated specifically as the other one isn't as good.
Anyways if you download that mod it ads 5.56 to the game and turns the MP5 into am M4 carbine.
BUT here's the catch, sometimes the Mod glitches out when you load a save and the original MP5 model shows up so now you have an MP5 that shoots 5.56x45.
So in order to fix this download the M727 mod, whenever the M4 glitches out you now have an M727 (practically an M4) therefore it still makes sense to have 5.56 NATO.
