Best non-firearm weapon to defend against a boar charge?

Currently going through a "primitive" phase and want to go hog hunting with a bow. However, i'd like to avoid getting stitches if the pig charges at me so i'm wondering if there's a good weapon to defend myself if it were to happen.

No problem. If you ignore the cringy marketing, cold steel makes some good stuff.

Buy a shovel handle at a hardware store and you’re set

Pigsticker, or as says, boar spear. Ideal way to carry them back too provided you have someone else with you.

Boar spears are very useful and there are traditional ones as well. It is a tradition from Europe to hunt wild boars with spears, as the animal itself comes from the old country. You can chase down the hog, you gotta run it down. They are really not as dangerous as you think, but still dangerous, especially in groups.

Just some example I found of a random spear, it is popular down here to hunt with spears. Cost $0 in ammo too, very inexpensive way to get a bunch of meat, over 100 lb.

If you can chase down a hog with a spear, build a shelter, start a fire to cook it on

If you can get dropped innawoods with a sack of corn and a 22 and bag a deer and skin it

If you can catch a freezer full of fresh fresh overnight with a fishing line

If you can do these things than you can survive in the forests of this country very well

God I love hearing about old world hunting for boar. Here in the States pigs are so common that any romantic notion often associated with hunting other game is thrown out the window. Boars are a pest and killing them is something you should do in multiples of five or its just not worth it. It's probably the only game I know of where actual automatics are considered viable for hunting them.

    Hunting boars huh.
Have you considered a boar spear?

Doesn't have to be an ancient one, people like you are why there's a market for modern versions.

A lot of people hunt hogs with dogs and wrangle hogs with dogs on farms. In fact, there is an event, which is called Uncle Earl's Hog Dog Trials, in which hog dogs compete for a prize in rounding hogs. People use knives, have even seen swords used for hunting hogs with dogs.

A knife can be enough, they are not super huge animals, but some of them can be huge.

There was one around here people called it hogzilla. People just tend to call bigass hogs "hogzilla" all over the world. Probably have been many claimed hogzillas. It is a lot of food for a lot of people, and valuable as well.

There was a >1000 lbs pig less than an hour from where I live. It happens, usually they are escaped domestic pigs, but it's a reasonable argument for bringing a but more oomph than you necessarily need at a minimum.

A knife is just risky. Better to keep your distance with a spear. Boars can frick you up

Don't be a fricking moron and just use a gun. You're not going to be skilled enough with any kind of mele weapon or bow to stop a charging hog.

Trappers in Japan sometimes use electrical stunning on boars. It looks like a cattle prod with a huge battery pack

There's a Chinese riot-control weapon which is essentially a polearm version of a stun baton.

You'll note that the shield has prongs for jabbing, it's actually pretty close to the Wakandan Captain America shields from Infinity War.

I can't be sure but it might be a shock shield, which is a thing and somewhat around in China. I think they're more in Hong Kong than mainland SWAT, I don't recall seeing them anyway but I wouldn't be too surprised.

Shock shields usually have metal strips on them but since it's all metal, maybe it doesn't need it or maybe it might just be at the prongs. Or it's not one at all. That round button-looking thing on the top, above the stud above the P, looks like it might be functional but I can't think what it would actually be.

Regardless, Chinese cops like those guys are meant to work as a team, you always see three or so guys with different gear that's meant to work together, like a man-catcher, a two-handed baton and a shield.

Doesn't seem to have a stun function but you can buy it for $50 on eBay

You probably can't actually get one, but a boar sword is cooler than a boar spear, since you're already putting yourself at risk by not using the most effective weapon possible.
