Best all purpose spray cleaner?

I have to clean out a lot of carbonators for small engines and I was wondering what the best value spray cleaners are. I just want to buy a whole bunch in bulk.

it's all the same stuff apart from the 0.1% bullshit they stuff in to make it seem better.
Like getting paracetamol from the store. get the cheapest.

Based as frick. It’s the same with everything, hand cream, shampoo, body wash, conditioner, soap…

For carb cleaner I have been using the supertech stuff from wal mart because it is the cheapest. For general cleaning of junk and grime/grease/oil off of random stuff i have been using gasoline in a sureshot sprayer and compressed air to blow the part clean. Works great, and even at todays insane gas prices is still more affordable per gallon than any other solvent by a long shot.

      Gasoline is not a solvent

Gasoline is indeed a solvent, moron. It's a very powerful solvent. The reason it's highly not advised to use it as such is due to its flammability.

        Water is a solvent too.

DCFM or Dichlorofluoromethane was/is the best solvent ever.

Too bad it fricks up O3 layer too much, we used to pour barrels of the shit on our avco Lycoming engines for 100 hourlies rather than scrubbing.

I go through an effload of brakleen not for brakes and was wondering if acetone in a sureshot would get me close?

Yes. Unless you live in a state that still allows chlorinates. Then use those.

For brake cleaner, I get whatever is on sale or I find laying around. Even the generics seem about the same as the name brand CRC, and when you’re spraying half a can at a time, might as well just snag Advance Auto’s store brand when they’re 2 for $8 or whatever. I tend to go with name brand for stuff I’m going to be spraying on sensors and expensive parts, but I’ve put Walmart’s knockoff seafoam into engines many a time.

I wish they listed ingredients like pharmaceuticals, I have a sneaky suspicion lots of these are using the same chemicals. A lot of the expensive electrical contact cleaners seem like aerosol 90%+ isopropyl or some shit.

It's safe on rubber/plastics so you can douse wiring harness connectors and or spray down electronics without damaging anything.
It also evaporates in seconds like brakekleen does. DeOxit smells great

Like I said, I think it’s basically pure alcohol. Doesn’t leave a residue and is safe on plastic. There’s also this little CRC 2-26 can, and that stuff is supposed to leave a little coating to prevent corrosion, they sell battery terminal spray which is similar.

What's the point of buying cans when you use that much? Just buy the gallon jugs and a sprayer.

I do for Simple Green and shit like that, the little 1/2gal pump sprayers are dope for that stuff.

Most are made from naptha, aka white gas camp fuel, with about 5% isopropyl alcohol

If you wanna know what's in a can go to the manufacturer's website and look up the Safety Data Sheet. Here's the contents of CRC Green Brake Clean.

Wont most brake cleaners eat through paint and plastic? What's the difference between say a brake cleaner and carb cleaner?

      >What's the difference between brake cleaner and carb cleaner?
These days the only difference is about a dollar. But brake cleaner used to contain chlorinated solvents.

I tend to stay away from plastics with Brakleen and stuff. I don’t know if the red can in OPs pic is the chlorinated stuff or not, I remember Brakleen having a green can that was non-chlorinated and low VOC and I’m sure that was safer for paint and plastic.

If there’s plastic or rubber around, I prefer the carb cleaner and degreaser stuff, not as harsh as the real brake cleaner, but much better than the soap type cleaners.

Fwiw I got a can of “engine degreaser” a year or two back and I’ll never buy it again. Can’t remember if it was pic related or another brand at Advance Auto, but it was like watered down simple green or dish soap and I blew through the whole can so fast. It’s much more economical to just get the big jug of Simple Green and put in a spray bottle if you’re working somewhere that you want to be extra safe about solvents and don’t want to use the brake or carb cleaner.

      > What's the difference between say a brake cleaner and carb cleaner?
BrakeKleen evaporates quickly to remove anti rusting goop thats on brake parts

Carb Cleaner doesnt evaporate, it should sit in the carb bowl for a while

IIRC carb cleaner is designed to leave an oily residue behind. I forget why, maybe rust prevention. Brake cleaner on the other hand is supposed to rinse 100% clean.

The cheap toluene cleaners do not. Read the MSDS before buying.

If you need to get some real crusty stuff off oven cleaner is a good way to get it done. Also hardened grease can be softened with a sprayer of diesel fuel before hitting it with a pressure washer. I have also used both the purple and yellow degreasers from harbor freight and they both seem to work well too.

Walmart toluene, the cheap shit. None of the boutique cleaners work even slightly better.

If you're wise you'll score some Pine-Sol (not generic pine oil) and use that undiluted as carb soak. Doesn't hurt plastic and washes off with hot water in your kitchen sink. The used Pine-Sol can be saved for reuse or you can mop your floor with it. Works better than commercial carb dips (RIP the original Hydro-Seal with methylene chloride, long gone with no substitute).

Guy a gallon of acetone and put it in a wash bottle. Startup fluid works well but it’s dangerous and more expensive.

Don't use the chlorinated stuff excessively, or without ventilation so you don't end up like me. Try something else first like plain acetone or d-limonene, and if you do need perchloroethylene use it downwind of yourself.

i would google modern carburetors you might clean and see what is recommended. some of them use glue and stronger cleaners can break them. this happened on one of my honda generators
