Berlin, 1945

>The following men will stay here: Keitel, Joel, Krebs, and Burgdorf.

How would you have defended Berlin? What strategic and tactical decisions would you have taken starting at the Oder line and into Berlin?

    >What strategic and tactical decisions would you have taken starting at the Oder line and into Berlin?
realize that there is no feasible defense and quit while there is still a germany around

unconditional surrender wouldnt be so bad

I would wait for the elections in the US, a Republican president would put America first and cut funding to the so-called "Allies".

not likely, since from a strictly strategic position, US was already in germany in 1945 and had no reason to give up
germans already expended their largest stockpile of gas and armor in the west in the failed ardennes offensive

any anti-war president would campaign to end the war as quickly as possible rather than just pull out when they were 9/10ths finished, not that it was feasible to demobilize before the war was finished anyways
they already had 2M men in europe, and they cant just leave without negotiating with the british and french about how to fill the giant holes they are leaving behind, it would genuinely be easier to destroy germany then go home than it would be to withdraw

Negotiate with the US for safe passage out of Germany via submarine by giving them the finest scientists (and keeping them from the soviets). Not many of the Furher's orders were making it out of the bunker much less directing things at that point anyway.

Tun Sie, was Sie wollen...

Recognize that the best case scenario is to pull as many men as possible from the western front and put them to the east. The further west that Americans, British, and other civilized armies can advance the better

Best answer, though not sure what good it would have done overall given that homosexual Roosevelt already sold out eastern Germany and eastern Europe to Stalin

    >How would you have defended Berlin?
Would've shot the Fuhrer, Hess, Goebbels, Goring, and Himmler the moment Hitler decided to declare war on the US in December 1941. Then would've sued for peace with the Brits& friends, and consolidated gains on the Ostfront.

      >sued for peace with the Brits& friends
their terms are unconditional surrender and a full occupation of Germany, including the return of all occupied territories, including in the East
optimistically, the best this plan MIGHT achieve (not guaranteed at all) is independence for Poland, Baltics etc. that were independent before 1939

        >their terms are unconditional surrender and a full occupation of Germany, including the return of all occupied territories, including in the East
Those terms were not set until 1943, and were largely a product of FDR's& Stalin's wishes. But nice try.
In 1941 the Brits were in a bad way, and the US wasn't going to declare war on Germany for nothing.
Keep US out of the war, give a few concessions to the Brits, and focus on the Soviets.

          >and the US wasn't going to declare war on Germany for nothing.
germany was always going to declare war on the US, the US had been effectively supplying the brits since before 1939 and they had drafted up numerous plans to try to interdict US shipping since before the war
pearl harbor was just convenient excuse to openly declare war on the US and more overtly attack US shipping as they had already been in an unofficial state of conflict and engaged and been engaged by the

this is also why the brits had literally zero chance of making peace with the germans, they had already been guaranteed american support since before the war ever began and had zero reason to make peace with the germans since they were not in any danger of losing anything

          >Keep US out of the war, give a few concessions to the Brits, and focus on the Soviets.
US was joining the war on the side of the british no matter what, and the need to stop lend-lease from entering britian means that the germans have no choice but to declare war on the US anyways or else risk a buildup of men in britian

only way the US do not ally with the british is to drastically alter german foreign policy in the 1930s, which would mean a universe where WW2 doesnt even happen in the first place

            >germany was always going to declare war on the US
Not after I shoot the Fuhrer and his goonies in 1941
            >US was joining the war on the side of the british no matter what
Not after I struck a peace deal with the Brits a day after I shot the Fuhrer and his goonies
            >[the Brits] had zero reason to make peace with the germans
They will once I offer them a huge slice of already-conquered-France, thus granting the Brits something they'd wanted from their ancient rival since before 1066

Mein Fuhrer, good news!!! Steiner and his reinforcements have arrived!

...Though expect most of the reinforcements to be Middle Eastern men, brown women, and college students. Steiner says they're all united under "Free-Palestine."

If they’re already into Berlin itself then nothing short of pulling a Killzone and A-bombing your own city will really do much of anything to turn the tide.
    >mechanized forces are basically in complete shambles and acting more as stationary defenses because no gas
    >the wide bulk of the experienced fighters are either killed off or too fricked up to fight on, to where you’re conscripting everyone with a pulse and a leg to stand on into the volkssturm in a last ditch effort
    >industry is basically gone or going to be because of muh bombing raids
As unrealistic and full of wehragay seething as it would be, suing for peace via unconditional surrender to America by the time the Soviets started really advancing would have been the best way to go. Just dangle all those fancy new rockets and eggheads to the US to fall under their protection. It may lead to degeneracy like jazz music spreading but IMO thats a hell of a better deal than dealing with almost 5 decades of vatniks. Hell you could probably play up America’s previous beef with the Soviets to your advantage in such a scenario, since its obvious there is no way in hell such differing powers would have remained allies after the war one way or another.

It's already over by 45, at this point tens of millions of people have died and the soviets are picking up steam after a crucial victory in Stalingrad while western powers have already established a massive force in Europe and have taken Paris and are on track to take the rest of France. Anything post 1943 is unwinnable in any sense for Germany, if you're extremely lucky maybe sometime before 44 you could get some type of conditional surrender where you aren't hanged.
