Bergara B-14 HMR

Is this the best budget long range rifle currently on the market? I know I’ll have to spend just as much on a good scope but I can always transfer it to a better rifle

I'd argue the Tikka T3X is better, but that's mostly due to personal preference.

never tried one, heard they are good.
      a couple little usability nits:
rear sling stud looks like it would interfere with rear bag, maybe its removable?
no pic rail, personally i like one piece scope mounts. i guess you could add a rail or just use rings
for me, the entry level winner is still tikka ctr but im sure this would be a good choice also

That or a Tikka varmint or CTR is pretty much the default value for money choice and both are fine options, especially for the money. I personally would buy a Tikka but they’re pretty hard to separate unless there’s a specific feature between them that works better or worse for you, or if one or the other just simply makes your dick hard. The upside to the Bergara is it’s effectively an improved R700, so that provides a lot of choice in the way of aftermarket options

i had both and like both but the bolt on the tikka was smoother

Do any of the Tikka’s have a barrel over 20 inches? And what calibers do they offer?

you can get the tikka t3x with a 24" barrel in 6.5 creedmoor at least. they are like $1100 though. there was a lot of deals on the bergaras a few years back, i got mine for around $600 on gunbroker from a dude who was auctioning off a bunch of them at once. both of them are really nice

You can get the ctr version at 24", in 308, 6.5 creed, 6.5prc, 300win, 223...and i think another cal too.

Interesting, I was originally looking to purchase a scout rifle but realized the concept was moronic and that I might as well get a long range bolt action. I live in NY so I can’t get a semi auto, so I figured it’d be the next best option

I've seen Tikka's go for around $850-$950 these days

It has Remington 700 bases. You can put on whatever kind of rail you can think of

Not a bad rifle, what caliber?

Depends on the budget and if you handload or not.

Personally, I'd just buy an X bolt or Howa 1500 or Rem700 with a 26" barrel and put the extra savings towards some clean glass. 280AI or some similar 7mm cartridge.

If I didn't handload and was just target shooting factory ammo, I'd pick the same X bolt or Howa 1500 or Rem700 in 6.5 Creedmoor and put the savings on clean glass or a range finder.

People assume a brand name is important in becoming a capable shooter but thats not the case.
A quality rifle with a long barrel a low drag bullet can take you as far as you want to go.

Anybody shot one of those? I haven’t seen many reviews on the precision model, just the light barreled hunter

The smaller calibres are ok, but a co-worker has to tighten everything on his 300wm version every 60 rounds or so...frickin thing rattles apart.

It was designed for those euro countries where youre only allowed a few rifles. Its trying to be both a hunting gun and a target gun with a few swappable parts.

That’s disappointing from Sako but I suppose the target market probably isn’t likely to have a high round count

I think that a Defiance Tenacity + TT + Proof Prefit + Chassis is the best value on the market if you can source all the parts for about $1800. If you source a good chassis you'll never have any interest in upgrading anything. I know that if I built a gun around a Tikka I'd want to build a custom later.

Just buy a SWFA SS 10x HD instead of blowing tons of money on a scope. You can shoot with fixed-power, can't you?
