Anon, the army has been trying to replace the M2 for decades because it's heavy and overbuilt. It's just that every attempt at doing so has yet to work out.

It's a .50. It had better be heavy and overbuilt.

Because every single replacement is more expensive and/or shittier than the M2, it has already had numerous improvements since the original design to the point where it's extremely unlikely it will see a replacement in our lives.

Is it the upper/lower design? Is it the relatively easy modularity of the gun down to not really needing any tools past a couple hand tools to put one together? It just feels like it has a lot of room to accommodate near future plans.

Hell, LMT made some one off 6.8 uppers for the brits to try after the SPEAR was announced. Wether the full 6.8 loads wore those LMT uppers is another story, what it means is it’s doable on a short notice by just swapping out an upper.

              Anonymous

              Reinforcement for the cam track.
The standard AR18 had the same.
The Stoner system has the receiver wall prevent the bolt from rotating too soon by having the cam lug ride on a ridge. On sheet metal or aluminum that can grind away at material over 1000s of rounds. Over used AR15s often have damage done to that area of the receiver because of it.

That's a shame. I wish they'd have just focused on improving the ARX instead of this.
I understand they're likely thinking that making it more like an AR will increase sales. However, most people that want an AR are just going to buy an actual AR instead of this. At least the ARX was somewhat unique and offered variety. It's Beretta so I'm sure it'll be fine, I just don't see it really going anywhere in a market already flooded with so many excellent AR pattern rifles.

      >However, most people that want an AR are just going to buy an actual AR instead of this.

For what fricking purpose? They clearly have the ability to make brand new firearm designs, so why would they copy the (few) design deficiencies of the AR-15? For example, they could drop the charging handle design while keeping the DI system or something
Also, what was wrong with the ARX 160?

      Anonymous

Because they want to win defense contracts and that's the most developed and optimized design. If you show up with something that isn't an AR derivative you will lose. Its like in interwar period everyone had some variation of the mauser.

They or at least the Italian military want more modularity, the polymer lower/body/upper of the ARX doesn’t lend well to that. They had some improved version with a metal quad/mlock rail for Italian SOF but they seemed to just make a new platform that is compatible with commercially available parts for customization

      It’s probably more commercially viable

$1,600 MSRP and only after 2+ years of fulfilling the half dozen or so military contracts. List prices will probably end up being double that after it hits the market and then it will slowly die off below MSRP.

the us military isn't using this moron, they have no manual of arms molded around ARs to worry about

NATO militaries will buy it since they always copy what Big Brother America does, and this rifle will be produced in yurop and therefore cheaper for them than the Sig.

It is wild, the FAL already solved the issue of having a charging handle that didn't get in the way, one that could be used as a forward assist, and one that was easy to use with the Western doctrine of rifle use, 70 years ago.
The AR ended up where it did because of a series of design changes and organic evolution, it shouldn't be emulated like that.

The T handle came because the original under the sight riser/carry handle got too hot.
The FA came because the T handle didn't allow for the shooter to add some forward pressure to the bolt to close it.

The evolution wasn't ideal nor planned out ahead of time. It was one semi-optimal choice that led to a less than optimal choice afterwards.
Had the AR15 started off with a FAL like design, it'd have stuck with it forever without much change.

              >The T handle came because the original under the sight riser/carry handle got too hot.
No, they changed it because the charging handle under the carry handle couldn't be easily accessed in winter clothing, as per stoner himself.

Manufacturers are so lazy nowadays it's unreal. And don't give me that "this is what the market asked for" shit, picrel is a fake quote but it's very true. Browning didn't care what people asked for early on, he made guns so good that within a few years everybody wanted them. In this business you either innovate or die. Any company getting by with Glock and AR clones is a dying company.
