Belgorod-Kursk offensive green lighted

"Ukraine can conduct limited attacks on Russian territory. For the exponent of the federal government, it is "completely normal" that in war "the attacked" operates "in enemy territory, for example to block supply lines". Therefore, added Pistorius, a Ukrainian attack on Russia "will have to be accepted" as long as it does not hit "any city, any civilian, any civilian sector, although it does not please".

      Strange...
      >white vapour sprays upwards at 2 sec mark
      >shorts power line above it causing localized power outage
      >18 seconds later, explosion
No sign of an impactor. What kind of bomb are they claiming this is? Neat seeing the headlights of the tossed car illuminate the bldg next door.

I'd say a gas line burst but then the powerline arcing would have ignited the vapour but doesn't and there isn't any continuous flames unless the dirt snuffs out the leaking gas.

18 seconds seems to be a long time for a bunker-buster warhead to detonate. Agreed, very odd.

I always held that Russia will not "just" nuke anyone that invades. Whoever projects such simple-mindedness into them, is himself the actual simple-minded party (by a considerable margin).
Russia might allow a line Smolensk-Rostov(Don) to be captured by whatever is their enemy. They might deploy tactical nukes for a successful capture of St Petersburg on "ideological grounds" (i.e. the idea the battle is spiritually lost); and they might deploy them once an outer ring around Moscow is threatened on purely tactical, non-ideological grounds. When Moscow is about to be captured they might of course consider a strategic strike on the West.

I think you're right on the money there, though one of the reasons Russia won't just lob a nuke out over it's territory being invaded is that they just don't know which nukes will work, which are duds, and which will go off the moment it's deployed. They're 0/3 for nuke tests starting with Nyonoksa, and Putin's announcement that they needed to make more (new) nukes came shortly after the 3rd failed test.

Offensive is a bit much no? At most raids but more likely just air raids

It's either bullshit or they're talking about going over the border in frick-all nothing areas with only dirt and trees around.

        Source for nuclear testing?

          Anonymous

The Nyonoksa radiation accident is pretty well known.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyonoksa_radiation_accident
Then there was a test in October that seemed to have been called off due to technical issues, according to a "senior US official" (CNN I know but it is what it is)
          https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/10/politics/us-russia-possible-torpedo-test
This *might* be the third test which just sounds like a botched Satan II test, unless I'm conflating it with a different one. Kinda recalled the third failed nuke test being another go at testing the Poseidon again but maybe I was wrong.
          https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/russia-test-launch-satan-ii-icbm-missile-failed-putin-new-start-nuclear-treaty/
Just a very poor overall record, and if you consider how they couldn't maintain their armor well due to corruption and how the US spends 10s of billions annually to maintain a slightly smaller stock of nukes than Russia, it isn't hard putting two and two together.

Yeah, possibly, but from the sounds of things they're just looking at being ok with dancing around on the Russian side of the border a bit here and there, not seizing control of cities.

Might also be a warning. To tell Vatniks to not put any supplies nearby those cities or there might be some unfortunate smoking accidents happening.

This. Even if Russia was going to be annexed by a foreign power I don't see people manning Russia's nuclear arsenal actually agreeing to fire. If you fire nukes, the world is over. If you don't fire nukes and Russia gets annexed, whatever, you live under foreign occupation, that's better than nuclear apocalypse.

I would 100% fire nukes than accept life under Russian steppeBlack person occupation. I assume the Russians think the same of their enemies.

here has a point. Russians project their subhuman behaviour onto others. Russians will think that the invader will treat them exactly how Russians would treat anyone they invade, meaning being nuked is probably a better alternative.

Imperial Japanese forces did the same thing and would rather blow themselves up than surrender and live under US occupation, even though they did just fine under US occupation later on. But they really thought they'd be treated like they treated their conquests.

The world isn't over. The russian world is. Because if they fire nukes they will get obliterated by NATO

            Anonymous

My point was people always say 'if nukes fly the world is over'. Nobody involved wants to die. The whole point of nukes is to hit your opponents nuke launching sites, ability to coordinate nuke strikes and so on. It isn't about hitting population centres (unless there is something super important government wise there). Therefore, if you're firing a nuke, you want to make sure your opponent can't fire nukes back, so you hit their sites and so on. Therefore the majority of deaths don't come from nuclear obliteration, but from the disruption that it causes in the long run. The world doesn't end. It's a bit like saying we're killing the planet with climate change. We're not. The planet is going to be fine. Humans might not be here, but the planet will be fine. Same with nukes, the nuclear states that are involved might be wrecked but the rest will be fine.

Quite literally, we are no longer discussing 2014 or 1993 borders. we are talking about 1914 borders that existed prior to the USSR invading and occupying free Ukraine.
