>do the goggles give them depth perception in the drone video feed?
3D never really caught on, you need 2x cameras, 2x transmitters and dual receivers on your goggles.. My guess is that depth perception only comes into its own within 100 yards of the target or so.
>3D never really caught on, you need 2x cameras, 2x transmitters and dual receivers on your goggles..
No you don't; at most you need 2 cameras, one transmitter, and one receiver. I dunno about the other guy's fisheye lens solution, but I do know how to composite images and/or multiplex two streams.
that's what I figured, although I think VR camera setups must be being relatively cheap these days since I see even amateur porn makers getting into making VR pornos.
I ask about the purpose of the goggles because it seems like just a normal LCD screen would be cheaper and give them better situational awareness.
>do the goggles give them depth perception in the drone video feed?
3D never really caught on, you need 2x cameras, 2x transmitters and dual receivers on your goggles.. My guess is that depth perception only comes into its own within 100 yards of the target or so.
It's technologically feasible because VR but I doubt most drones have the camera setup required for that kind of viewing experience
I'm not familiar with ukrainian FPV drone shit, but I'm familiar with VR
a single fish-eye lens view rendered right forms a pseudo-3d view that gives you significant perception of depth through VR setups]
it's cheap so cheaper drones and due to weight restrictions smaller drones still use single fish-eye lenses

Interesting how that's apparently a vatnik trying to hide behind a Ukie tank equipped with mine clearing kit. I guess this guy was some moron who climbed out of his trench to see if they could loot the abandoned tank in front of their position while Ukies were running interference with drones to let their guys retreat back to their own lines.

I dunno. The meekest dweeb turns into a raging lunatic behind the wheel of a car. Being behind a screen gives you a psychological barrier between reality and gaming. Gamers are used to this and can switch their perception. Those dead soldiers on the screen are just pixels adding up to their high score.
its about the righteousness of their work and how they perceive it.
There was an interview with the (formerly) #1 British sniper who got doxed. He said his former work weighs heavily on his mind and that he is greatly stressed by all the death threats against him and his family.
The SBU boomer Horizon's Lord sniper who became #1 did an interview where he stated that he loves his work and goes sometimes reads the hatemail and death threats from the Russians before bedtime for better dreams.
It's a bit different when you're shooting sand people defending their homes vs the people who come there hoping they get to butcha a village on their way towards total ukranian genocide
The Sand people in Afghanistan and Iraq were defending their homes so much they were usually being paid off and armed by either the Iranians or Gulf Arabs and jumping the border to bomb bazaars and kidnap and torture to death someone whose only crime was being the opposite type of muslim.
Can we stop with this homosexual 2006 bullshit? What's next, the Americans are gonna tell me how they lost in Iraq?
Only if you think too hard about what you're actually doing. If you just pretend it's a video game then the only thing you'll feel after the fact is the desire for a sequel.
My Gramps was a Hitler Youth kid that was sent to the front 1942 onward. He helped pack supplies and commandeered pony drawn carriaged. He realy loved the ponies, they were some kind of breed that was used in mines. I think "Grubenpony" they were called.
He had to fight starting in 43 and didn't like it. The constant russian night attacks, the often absolutely pointless assaults by both sides and the lack of supplies late war really ravaged his nerves. When I asked him if he felt bad for killing the enemy he just said:"No."
PTSD more often than not seems to be all other things going on in war except the killing.
>PTSD more often than not seems to be all other things going on in war except the killing.
It only seems to contribute when you're deeply upset about who you had to (or did not have to, but did anyway) kill. I've seen guys fricked up because they had to shoot child soldiers or woman suicide bombers. The usual 'them or us' line gets trotted out but it still bugs them.
No one is going to care about killing churka rapists on the prowl for a child to rape or a microwave to steal.

PTSD has 100% to do with stress, not morality or even the trauma itself. It's a stress condition. You may not like killing people but if it doesn't stress you it wouldn't give you anything like PTSD.
Many more people get PTSD from being shelled or bombed than anything involving direct violence, why? Because guess what's more stressful, dead bodies and blood or getting fricking bombed?
>man, the PTSD from drone operators is gonna be absolutely wild
According to Ukr infantry, their drone guys are completely unsympathetic to the enemy and actually think it's funny when they beg.
It's not really "sociopathic." A screen is a dissociative tool, and when you're dealing with an enemy like the Russians, there usually isn't any sympathy or mercy to be found. A sociopath would make a pretty bad drone pilot on the balance, since most of them are easily bored and have bad impulse control.
I think the fact that this war is one of self defense goes a long way to ameliorating that. Killing invaders is essentially the one thing that the vast majority of people agree is just and righteous.
I’d also imagine that while killing will always leave some kind of shade unless it is direct self-defense (by direct I mean literal kill-or-you-or-your-family-will-be-killed situation, that makes it so unambiguous that it kills the shade), you also need moral questionability to truly get PTSD. Something like Soviets in Afghanistan or US in Vietnam, a war that makes you ask ”what’s the point?” and ”why I even was there in the first place?”. Humans are pretty good at rationalizing things away, and if you have a real reason for your actions, like defending your homeland from invaders, it goes a pretty long fricking way to dispel the guilt.
>A bunch of homosexuals come to try to brutally rape and murder your village >You effortlessly clap their cheeks from your buddy's mom's basement, Xbox controller in hand
Nope, those guys are going to say "Frick Russians" instead of "cheers" for the rest of their lives. It's just not the same as going to murder a village of sandpeople in the middle of the night and blasting your extract's wife in front of him and your team because she wouldn't drop the knife.
>These guys are very safe
They're priority targets for Russians and have to work at the contact line, almost, because generally they try to target behind the Russian lines before said Russians get into the tranches. Easier to kill the enemy before they hunker down.
What usually happens is they prepare their kit in a safezone, then hustle to basements and trenches on the frontline pre-prepared for them by their own grunts. They take regular artillery fire and the enemy dronebois target them. They get blown up if the enemy sees where they send their drones from, or figure out which bolt-holes are for drone pilots and nail all of them even if most are empty.
I unironically want to make a comfy hobbit house by digging into a hill, but how can you make sure you don't just collapse the roof in on yourself like a moron? Do you need to just go like 3 feet then put up supports?

US drone operator sure, ukr or russian or similar drone operator not so much. they arent working through sat relays they gotta be pretty close to the front line, constant slim chance of getting targeted somehow and geting gotted yourself
Do these people not worry about polonium tea after this is over?
or is it a bit like the mafia where you wait a few years and now the people in charge of the mob /russia dont care anymore because it isn't their problem (just the honor of their outfit)
The Eastern intelligence services have a long memory, the East German stasi or borderguard allegedly killed a West German borderguard who killed one of their own in 1998 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudi_Arnstadt)
Another risk I see the some kind of ruling from The Hague when some times has passed, some of the drone videos imo goes hard against the "clean killing" spirit of the geneva conventinon
>Do these people not worry about polonium tea after this is over?
i would imagine that would be the concern of russian ogliarchs. FSB was purged and gutted, ukraine FIS has retained it's skills and personnel and is being assisted by CIA.
Considering how many FSB and turncoat captives the Yooks have, I'm sure they'll have their borders well-cleaned of potential assassins once they've finished drawing out fingernails and smashing teeth.
I wouldn't mind doing what is essentially an office job in war time but frick, you gotta be the butt of every joke among the dudes who actually fight and you won't have shit to tell when someone asks you about the war.
Drone operators are absolutely hated by the opposite side. They also go out of their way to kill each other, like snipers. I don't think anybody would make fun of you being a modern combo between a sniper and a flamethrower operator.
>While you trained your cardio I studied the LAN. >When you were on the range I mastered the keyboard. >While you wasted your days training in small unit tactics, I cultivated a superhuman tolerance for boredom. >And now that WWIII is upon us and the world is on fire you have the audacity to come to me for help. >For I studied the LAN.

I used to spawn trap lil Black folk with a buddy on maps with these, after TV missile deleting the enemy heli from existence.
Literally hundreds of spawn kills on helpless people who couldn't fire an RPG to save their life till the game ended.
Beautiful times, me and my bud created suffering for literally tens of thousands of people on BFBC2, and then I did the same with planes on BF3, with even more spawn killing.
It was never about the points, it was always about the suffering.
I'm reminded of Planetside 2 for a couple of weeks after they released the Phoenix but before they nerfed it. Never thought that would happen in real life but here we are.
>Fricking Higby explicitly says on stream before it's released that it won't one-hit infantry >Released >One hits infantry, and the missiles desync so you can't even see them coming to shoot them down on your end
Good times.
Depends
Some of long range drone operators certainly work in more comfortable conditions since they have to stay online for long periods of time
As for regular drone operators who TZD mobiks and buhankas, there were vids of some of them being pretty close to the frontlines.
But if to trust those vids, they always have pre-planned positions safe from getting ambushed, so i guess its pretty safe job relatively to regular troops
out of curiosity, how do they avoid getting their EM emissions picked up and getting bombed? do they relocate often? are there some sort of blockers/filters that mask them? or is that not a problem cause russians are incompetent?
do the goggles give them depth perception in the drone video feed?

you don't slap 1000 dollars cameras on suicide drones, the goggles and the camera are all analogic.
Once you are used to analogic its pretty good tho.

Russians will invent genius anti drone flyswatter. Smekalka, xaxaxaxa.

No, they literally had to chop down AA barrels to make riot shotguns.

"frags" in the FPS gamer lingo of slavs, where a frag is an enemy kill, not the Vietnam sergeant kill lingo.

No? Most of the troops are mobilized reservists.
This is such a weird flex considering "paid volunteer" is the default mode of any first world military and the alternative is "forced conscript"
We already know about they guys running strikes in Afghanistan, watching their target for hours before dropping a missile straight into a wedding.
>man, the PTSD from drone operators is gonna be absolutely wild

A sociopath would make a pretty bad drone pilot on the balance, since most of them are easily bored and have bad impulse control.
>They can kill invaders all day and sleep soundly at night.
If you can't do that you're not human. Even chimps manage.
there's a lot of dudes who were gunners in AC-130s who have PTSD for sure
Wasn't that also due to exposure to toxins and repeated micro TBIs or something?
i don't know of any double blind studies determining whether it's the killing or the fumes
I think the fact that this war is one of self defense goes a long way to ameliorating that. Killing invaders is essentially the one thing that the vast majority of people agree is just and righteous.

Switchblade 300s iirc have a 40 mile range. Meant for hunting insurgents innadesert. That is not needed.
I was only looking at the 300 model range of 6.2, apparently the 600 has a range of 25 miles and the Blackwings range is classified
I don't have the 300 range readily available, but here is the 600 information. It is more than 25.

>FPV drone with the full headset
How badly does that frick you up if you have motion sickness?
I used to get bad motion sickness with a VR headset, but I judt increased the FOV. Did wonders.
I feel like it would be pretty guilt-inducing to drop bombs on hapless dickhead conscripts through a first-person viewpoint
Most of russian soldiers nowadays are poorgays who are in it for the money. Same applies to almost every third-worlder army.
US drone operator sure, ukr or russian or similar drone operator not so much. they arent working through sat relays they gotta be pretty close to the front line, constant slim chance of getting targeted somehow and geting gotted yourself
Obligatory.
Eh, Polonium is mighty expensive. The amount used to poison Litvinenko was about $492M. Polonium is only used if you really wanna send a message.
The frick was the message? We killed the guy who called Putin a pedo, thus confirming it?
>guy who called Putin a pedo
Said guy was also a turncoat glowBlack person who supposedly gave the Bongs a lot of information.
I bet they keep score.
>still have to wear gear
they should have on sweat pants and bags of cheetos everywhere
I wouldn't mind doing what is essentially an office job in war time but frick, you gotta be the butt of every joke among the dudes who actually fight and you won't have shit to tell when someone asks you about the war.
Drone operators are absolutely hated by the opposite side. They also go out of their way to kill each other, like snipers. I don't think anybody would make fun of you being a modern combo between a sniper and a flamethrower operator.
>How to spot an autist 101
They watch over and protect those on the ground. Why would they not be grateful for modern small dispersed air power?
Were I working a treeline I'd love to have a dronebro FAC above the enemy.
>hating on someone doing a vital job just because that job doesn't suck exactly in the same way as yours does
mindset of a literal child
They unironically are just overgrown children winging about absolutely everything all the time.
>t. office guy in a physical fiels
Here you see Swedish NATO drone operators during the battle of Moscow 2033.
Drone operator thread? Drone operator thread.
You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
>you have taken ze bug jokes too far
>now ze bugs vill come for you!
>For I studied the LAN.
>that one moron who won't shut up about Emacs being the superior drone control platform
>"I bet you didn't even write your targeting software yourself, you absolute plebeian"
>battlefield helicopter god becomes drone operator
Would scare the shit out of me
I hate those Black folk like you wouldn't believe
I used to spawn trap lil Black folk with a buddy on maps with these, after TV missile deleting the enemy heli from existence.
Literally hundreds of spawn kills on helpless people who couldn't fire an RPG to save their life till the game ended.
Beautiful times, me and my bud created suffering for literally tens of thousands of people on BFBC2, and then I did the same with planes on BF3, with even more spawn killing.
It was never about the points, it was always about the suffering.
Or the dudes who would main the lil helicopter drone from BC2
I could absolutely curb stomp in bf3 back in the day, I'd dodge rockets by weaving around the river on caspian border.
Shit was so cash.
Drone operatos are so fricking lame.
I hope they all blow their brains out, no matter the side they're on.
uh buh buh buh war is actually horrible sanctioned killing and not manly badass duels uh buh buh buh you gonna keep crying?
I hope a drone castrates you.
Only then you will realize that drones have ruined warfare for everyone.
>Captchas longer than 4 letters
>t.
>captcha: TPZTZD
Being a drone seems comfy
I'm reminded of Planetside 2 for a couple of weeks after they released the Phoenix but before they nerfed it. Never thought that would happen in real life but here we are.
>Fricking Higby explicitly says on stream before it's released that it won't one-hit infantry
>Released
>One hits infantry, and the missiles desync so you can't even see them coming to shoot them down on your end
Good times.
are they far from the front lines?
getting captured as a drone operator is probably the worst thing that can happen to someone in the war
Depends
Some of long range drone operators certainly work in more comfortable conditions since they have to stay online for long periods of time
As for regular drone operators who TZD mobiks and buhankas, there were vids of some of them being pretty close to the frontlines.
But if to trust those vids, they always have pre-planned positions safe from getting ambushed, so i guess its pretty safe job relatively to regular troops
>floral wallpaper wasn't their choice.
But it was their preference.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you'll get what you need.
out of curiosity, how do they avoid getting their EM emissions picked up and getting bombed? do they relocate often? are there some sort of blockers/filters that mask them? or is that not a problem cause russians are incompetent?
