Nice finally the weekly Vietnam War movie thread 🙂
I found what I think is a novel by a guy who was in the real battle the final battle in Platoon was based on today.

>Jingoistic triumphant orchestral music >usual emotional manipulative "soldier sacrifice for freedom" schlock >leaves out how badly the US got fricked at LZ Albany to the north
It was kinda gay at times compared to other nam offerings, I must admit. All that sappy shit with the wives, I know it was in the book but jesus christ, it was almost like watching the boring parts of Deerhunter all over again.
The character Captain Harris was played by Dale Dye
He was a real Marine in Vietnam, NCO at the time and later became an officer
He became a technical advisor in Hollywood in the 1980s
The first film he worked on was Invaders From Mars but the film that brought him to the industries attention was his next, Platoon. Director Oliver Stone had him put the actors through a gruelling boot camp to prepare for the film
Directors liked the presence he had and often gave him small roles like this on the productions he advised, my personal favorite was his appearance in Brian de Palmas film Casualties of War: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M25YD1i1wgg
In my town every year we celebrate asiatictoberfest. I handful of guys drive around in trucks and harass the local Vietnamese population on the Tet. We blast tejano/norteno/mexican music to confuse them. I dunno if it works but it makes me laugh. The funny thing is I fricking love Pho and eat Vietnamese food regularly. Life is funny
I was going to post this but then decided these kind of morons likely wouldn't give a frick anyway. They're probably just terrorising anyone who looks East Asian.
Not that guy but I know a asiatic who had family who fought in both the Vietcong and the ARVN. To this day, the half of her family that lives in the US (ARVN) and the half of her family that still lives in Vietnam (Vietcong) are not on speaking terms.
>Apocalypse Now
It's just a SEA rehash of the Heart of Darkness. Aside from charlie don't surf it's not even a war movie really, although that's not to say it isn't an excellent movie.
>mfw broken arrow
>mfw TL drops nape on us. again.

I need to buy more books man. I really enjoy reading memoirs over analytical research
>Storm of Steel
>With the Old Breed
>One Soldier's War
The best bit iof the entire film is when that fat bloke with the massive belly gets sprayed point blank.
That guy was a production crewmember.
The older I get the better Apocolypse Now gets. It's so far ahead of FMJ and Platoon any more.
It is the ultimate Vietnam movie
>mfw
This is The Patriot tier of vietnam war movies
This is true, different movies, and Apocalypse now is a masterpiece. I was just being cheeky

I rewatched it after like 10 years thinking i would finally get it, but it still felt like a schizo dream

This is moronic, if Vietnamese live in your town they’re probably the ones who fought for the south

Sounds like uh Americans still don't can't tell friend from foe...hilarious.
I think they should have given Junior his own follow-up sit-com.
