They can be sanded though. The top coat literally has sand mixed in it for texture. The first house I owned had sanded walls. Huge pain in the ass when repainting.
Sure, but textured finishes over wood lath/plaster were high end hand trowled work that plasterers took pride in, the hopper gun texture shown is used to cover shitty low skilled drywall work and simply wasnt ever indicative of quality plastering, it indicates exactly the opposite.

Plaster walls feel weird. My grandma had them, and also an ex of mine. I remember scraping my knuckles or hand or whatever on the patterns. It felt like there was mud slathered everywhere. I’m not sure I’d want that again. Must suck to put in new outlets or run a data line somewhere.
