Backhmut was simply at the wrong place, at the wrong time. It was never supposed to be a long-term defence line, but it was never supposed to be a breeze to take either. Back when izyum and Lyman were in Rusky hands, it was meant to be a sizeable speed bump for the Russian push to the donetsk district borders.

Yet here we are. Ukies basically saw that they can hold it fairly comfortably, with a nice K/D ratio. Let's not kid ourselves here, ukrainians are deffo coming up on top here, they've been in bad situations in the past and retreated in order to avoid casualties, clearly that's not the case here. The city is not in a cauldron (yet), can easily be supplied, and has the full backing of M777s and HIMARS now. It's likely that it will eventually fall as ukraine pulls troops out of there, but given that it's been under siege for over 6 months now, I am not ruling out Russia simply giving up eventually.

People ignoring the rest of the frontline however, which is kinda funny. Ukraine is steadily advancing in Luhansk, and gearing up for a potential break-through south. Look at what's being reported, and read between the lines. Huge HIMAR strikes in the south, targeting logistics and barracks. Same shit that happened in Kherson for months, resulting in Russia's retreat. Always pay attention at the HIMARs targets, they are steering this war atm

I think nitter has become very popular and its servers don't always succeed in the twitter query because of the load.

If you get a "tweet not found" or whatever, just refresh, it will pop up after an attempt or two.

That's from noveselivske and is over a month old. They can't even cross the railroad less then a km away from the location.

They either exhausted their offensive capabilities or got cucked by mud. in any case they stalled out, and the only progress were positional battles north and south of kreminna for the last few weeks.

At Verdun there's a 25-ft high hill that covers about 2 acres called "le mort homme" because over 100k men died fighting over it. When this is over Ukraine should rename Bakhmut/Artomovsk to "cмepть pociян" or whatever is ukrainian for "death of russians".

russia has nothing to gain rushing in. Meanwhile ukraine army has everything to lose if they give it up. Dnieper cut off is a better bargaining chip for peace terms. Ukranians are dying like flies and if they decide to abandon their post their execution squads that will kill them.

The big think question is will the israelites have enough money to suck from the american tax payer before we get down to the last ukranian or will they have to launch covid 2 if the war ends quickly.

According to ISW, it's possible that what we're seeing are the death throes of the offensive as the Russians are no longer able to carry out effective attacks due to personnel shortages and shell hunger.

      Anonymous

a lot of shells made this year have been seeing use by the Russians lately, which would be odd if they still have tens of millions of shells for their favored calibers left. Wonder how much marginal ammunition they have that they'd prefer not to use but that could either be risked as is or refurbished quickly
